We stayed at the Ren Marina using our Marriot Points. Very easy Check-in as we did a Wednesday to Wednesday stay. The people at the front desk were very accomodating. We were originally in room 1435 , We asked if an upgrade was possible and for $30 more a night we received a room on the 6th floor. Rm 1650
Nice room small cozy and a nice size balcony since we noticed alot of rooms had balconies that you can only stand on. We found the room had a nice big chair so we moved it out to the balcony and enjoyed our coffee and the view every morning.
The view was nice as we overlooked the marina, pool and cruise ships and in the distance but not too far out was the ocean. Sunsets were awesome!! was kinda blocked a bit as it sunk into the ocean but it was nice. Food in Aruba is EXPENSIVE but AWESOME. We thought well worth the money as some of the portions were a good size. We ate at Pinchu's and we were treated very nicely by Annabell the owner. We went back one other night there for drinks Really nice place. We ate at the Hyatt twice, Piccolos one night and Japengos for sushi Good food! Ah yes and then theres the Flying Fishbone WOW AWESOME must try the Salmon appetizer and the lobster appetizer. We had a rez for 6pm and had the most beautiful romantic sunset. If you can request a table to the right, outside by the pier. Theres no one in front of you dining when the sun goes down and its just perfect. As a matter a fact everyone came over by our table for sunset pics it was just incredibly beautiful. Now Madame Janettes AWESOME again large portions and the staff works their butts off there. The lobster Ravioli appetizer is a must. This place is kinda out of the way and not on the water but you have to try it its WELL worth the cab fare. Madame Janettes is closed on Tuesdays and you must make reservations we lucked out as we were there apparently on a "slow"week according to the locals. We ate on our last night at a place called Yemanga right behind the Ren nothing special but we did meet a nice captian of one of the Yachts in the Marina. I must say the staff there was not as nice or attentive like all the other places we ate at.
We also attended a BonBoni Festival at a Fort Zoordam one block from hotel ( spelling is wrong i know) this was a really nice way to meet some locals and see some real culture of the island. They also had some vendors with all handcrafted merchandise. REALLY NICE STUFF REALLY CHEAP!! If they have one of these festivals while your there please check it out i bought home stuff for everyone thats better than the stuff out on the street. I believe we paid $3 each to get in.
Ok now onto the Private Island. The boat launch was in the marina hotel and another pick-up at the suites( Bring your ROOM KEY). Every morning we went to the lobby and took the boat to the island. PARADISE pure PARADISE. The ride out was about 10 minutes which was nice and if you go to the right of the dock its the Adults side(Flamingos) to the left the Family side (Iguanas lots of them). Honestly i enjoyed both beaches but my favorite was the Family side. There was always a breeze on this side more so than on the adult side. The family beach was bigger and not rocky. If you wanted to go in the water at the adult section you had to move very slowly to go out in the water as there were TONS of rocks by the shoreline. The private island was never crowded and had lots of shade areas. We did also find lots of shade on the adult side and hanging out with the flamingoes was really cool. WORD OF WARNING.... Now both of us TAN very easily however no matter how much sun lotion we used on our very first day we got BURNT TO A CRISP!!! so our next day we ended up renting a jeep and kept the top up rolled down the sides and stayed out of the sun. We did go to a small and i mean small grocery store past the brewery and found SPF50 for much cheaper than near the hotels. We lathered up in the jeep and enjoyed the rest of the trip. Baby beach, Natural Bridge and beyond ( found a really cool bridge but you must have a jeep to get to it) Lighthouse and more. Just get a map and go the islands small and the people are very friendly. Watch gas prices its more expensive in aruba than in the states. We actually had a whole day of exploring and made our reservations for the fishbone that night so we didnt need a cab worked out perfectly. We rented the jeep from the Marina hotel at the Thrifty desk and if you were a guest you received 15% off your rental. Jeep for the day was $83 NOT BAD for last minute reservations. We did do the Jolly Pirates boat which was ALOT of fun. The staff has everything together on that boat very entertaining and the food was not bad either. I must say though the bathroom was uh not nice but what can you do. Girls makes sure you have sandals on and step away from the toilet when you flush LOL. My husband had no problem with it but i did. Oh and most importantly if you want to do this book online its cheaper. ( Yeah we had a laptop with us) and also if you can, download Skype on your home PC and laptop if you bring one. We called home everynight using Skype and it was absolutely free except for the internet charge from the hotel, your cell phone from home works as well but its $1.49 a minute so skype worked really well for communicating with kids. We did buy a sim card from digicell which was past the goverment building and a short walk from the Ren $20 for 46 minute. The hotel store wanted that much for 10 minutes.
Overall we had an AWESOME time at the Ren I must say before i shut up here that NADIA the concierge at the Ren Marina was the best at all our reservations for dinner and i so thank her for that. If you need last minute rezs contact her i dont know how she does it but she does!! Hope this helps with everything you need to know. If it wasnt for TripAdvisor we probably wouldnt have had as much fun as we did! Thank You TripAdvisor!!!!!
