4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2013 via mobile

It is not immediately apparent from most of the pictures you will find online but this 'resort' consists of some 2 story rectangular units set on either side of a steep and winding brick road on a well-tended tropical hillside that look out over a most spectacular bay and marina complex. It is not a resort in the way I would think of a resort - it doesn't even have a pool - no restaurant, no lounge chairs on the beach. In fact, no beach.
Instead, through the manned barrier at the foot of the road and across the street, one has the marina. And in this complex are a yacht club with a decent restaurant, a coffee shop, bar, ship chandlers and general store amongst others. Paddle boards can be rented, sailing lessons and cruises arranged. A wonderful beach is a 10 minute walk away and the islands best collection of eclectic bars, restaurants and roadside cafès is within a 10 minute stroll in the opposite direction.
The accommodations consist of self catering units decorated in a Euro meets tropical hardwoods meets minimalist island style. Every unit has at least one balcony with bay view. The air conditioning in our unit was superb. The kitchen was large with a counter and seating on one side, basic utensils provided, no toaster. The small stove was dead and unlikely ever to be resurrected. Staff are friendly and helpful but I had the feeling that sort of repair didn't occur. A common toaster oven in the kitchen would solve that problem.
That being said, not having a stove was really not a problem for us 2 adults.
If you enjoy the kind of vacation where you are not spoonfed your food and entertainment and a bracelet is required to eat at the buffet then you might enjoy the Antigua yacht club as much as we did.
We booked through Expedia and got a fantastic rate on the unit. We also got lucky when we got there and we're given a 2 level suite with 2 balconies. It worked out cheaper than renting an apartment.
We rented a car. Parking is free in a big lot outside resort. There are 2 car rental companies next to the resort.

Best holiday ever. Rent one of the apartments with kitchen. They are a little bit higher above and have such a great big terrace with an amazing view over the marina and the bay.
Very friendly staff. Nice gym. Good bars and restaurants in the marina.
Beach is only a couple of minutes walk away with a nice restaurant.
All in all a very good place to spend some time.
Manager and reception staff were extremely friendly. I forgot something in the room and the manager sent it to my home address. Impressive!
No pool though. A shame. But not important since the beach is not far.

Room Tip: rooms with a kitchen are very large. maybe 50 m2 or so with a big bathroom

Very comfortable spacious room, very friendly service. Good location next to the marina. Two minor negatives : noisy air conditioning, plenty of mozquitos (even with all the windows & doors closed all day).

My husband and I got married in Antigua in November and did a lot of exploring around the hotels in English Harbour and Falmouth Harbour for the guests to stay. We ended up booking the majority of our guests into the Antigua Yacht Club Marina Resort. The price was great for the setting, location, and clean good rooms. We actually found a great deal thru Expedia that was much cheaper than the listed price thru the hotels website. The location is perfect within walking distance of local restaurants, cafes, beaches and attractions like Nelson's Dockyard. We and our guests found the rooms to be very clean and quite large, especially the suites. A few guests did say it got a bit loud in the lower rooms at night, as it is within walking distance from many of the most popular bars and restaurants in the area. But the guests in the higher rooms, back away from the main road said the noise was not noticeable.

Stayed here for a few nights during the RORC 600. We had room 1 which is right on the road so first thing in the morning you do get noise from the delivery guys who tend to have their stereos on at full volume. Also Cloggys just across the road has party night on Wednesday, if you're not going to party the night away you can listen to it instead. For that reason you may want to try and stay further up the hillside.
Otherwise it's a great location with bars, restaurants on tap all close by.
Rooms are large & spacious with air con, fridges, safe etc.
Our fan only seemed to have one setting, hurricane, but it helped to keep the mosies away at least.
Surprised that you have to pay for wifi access in your room, it is free in the lobby though.

Room Tip: Stay away from road if you want a good nights sleep

The quality of the place is reflected in the price, it's not quite the 4 star resort it used to be and the rooms and bathrooms are in some need of refurbishment. The rooms seem to have been stripped of all non essential furniture so now give the impression of being stark and bare. New mattresses are needed! And little things like the safe and phone were not working and the wc worked only intermittently. The staff were friendly and as helpful as they could be and the location and views across the harbour are really good.

Room Tip: Get one higher up the slope, for better views and less noise

After a twenty day crossing from Gran Canarie the Yacht Club was an ideal place for a comfortable room great shower and needed sleep. Fantastic location close to restaurants and next to the harbor. The gym was excellent and the staff was extremely accomodating. Three guys shared a suite,. The staff set up two twin beds and a cot. We could not ask for more. It is fifteen minutes from Pigeon Beach and Nelson Boatyard.
