“Exceptionally friendly and welcoming”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 13, 2013

From the minute we arrived at Antigua airport and were collected by Edgar in his taxi (arranged by Marilyn) we felt as though we were on holiday. Edgar pointed out several landmarks that we were to become familiar with over the following week as we explored the island, and a little about life on Antigua. The Anchorage is situated in a fantastic location between Nelsons Dockyard and English Harbour, the rooms are basic but clean and comfortable and were a great place for us to base ourselves with plenty to see and do in the local area. Marilyn was extremely thoughtful and her local knowledge and contacts made all the difference when it came to planning our days. We particularly wanted to walk and Marilyn made contact with a local guide - Dassa - with whom we spent a few hours walking to the top of Signal Hill through the rainforest - this trip proved to be one of the highlights of the holiday. We definitely hope to return next time we visit our family who reside in the the BVIs.

It's good to hear the Anchorage Rooms proved to be a good base to explore Antigua.
Hiking by yourselves was a great way to discover the history here all around English Harbour from the early 18th century & then to relax on the beaches. Taking advantage of a local guide, you were able to access remote areas in the rain forest. which will have left a lasting impression.

This is the second time I've stayed at the anchorage, and once again it was an enjoyable experience. The anchorage staff are friendly and always make you feel welcome. The room rates are very reasonable, especially since the location is so central, with the beach, shops and the habour so conveniently close. The rooms are clean and well equipped. And it’s always nice to sit in the courtyard and have a beer with friends.

It's always good to know when a guest returns to accommodation & that it was an enjoyable experience both times.
Also that you found the rooms continue to be clean & well equipped. Meeting up with friends in the courtyard cafe & being close to all the English & Falmouth Harbour amenities was clearly a nice added bonus for you.

I was responsible for helping several wedding guests find places to stay while attending my daughter's wedding at Nelson's Dockyard. Marilyn was so helpful and booked everyone into a room that fit their needs, from dormitory stays to a private room with waterbed! The Anchorage is situated in the heart of the action between English and Falmouth Harbor and allowed wedding guests to get around easily on foot to the local attractions, restaurants, and nightclubs.

It's lovely to hear that Anchorage Rooms provided a suitable variety of accommodation close by to your daughter's wedding in Nelson's Dockyard. Also that your guests benefitted from the central location with many useful amenities to hand.

A friend and I recently spent a one week's vacation at Anchorage Rooms, and I can say that Marilyn and her husband Ray are what make Anchorage Rooms what it is. As others have commented, Marilyn is very willing to assist her guests in planning activities, and Ray, who currently operates the cafe downstairs, is always cheerful and fun, and prepares a good breakfast, lunch, and great coffee every day except Sunday. Anchorage Rooms is a complex of 6 guest rooms upstairs in a business complex, with a range of businesses located downstairs.

I am well aware that you get what you pay for, and Anchorage Rooms is catering to guests looking for budget accomodations, but even knowing this, I was surprised at just how basic our room was. It was devoid of any decorative touchs. On the other hand, everything was exceptionally clean (no maid service on Sundays), and we got by without problem with the one towel and one pillow/person (one hand towel for two people). I am sure that we would have been given extra towels had we asked. We had no mosquito problems, and in a corner room,we had a wonderful breeze at all times. No need for A/C in January. Wifi was very reliable; hot water and water pressure not so much. As others have also commented, unfortunately, the music from the neighboring bar was really pretty awful, playing at top volume until 5 AM on Saturday night. Even ear plugs didn't help. Marilyn and Ray have attempted to address the problem, but with so many having a good time next door, they've had little success. The music was less an issue during the week.

There is no place for guests to sit outside in the sun, as the outdoor patio areas had no chairs. Again, this was not a problem for us, as we were on the go every day. It could be an issue for a guest who wants to relax outside with a book. Outside seating is available under cover in the cafe area. The courtyard area is very pleasant.

The location of Anchorage Rooms, just a two minute walk from Nelson's Dockyard, is wonderful. There is an excellent selection of restaurants right down the street (Le Cap Horn was our favorite), and every night after dinner, we walked around the dockyard (we were told no fee for anyone staying "in the Dockyard", which apparently we were considered to be), admiring the amazing yachts in the harbor.

The Dockyard, which was the naval base of the British Navy in the Caribbean from the 1700's, has been beautifully restored, and now houses restaurants, two inns, a museum, a bakery, and shops. Now a National Park, there are many hiking trails to other fortifications and historic landmarks related to the naval base.

Another highlight of our trip was the walk (3.3 miles on my pediometer) to the undeveloped Rendezvous Bay. Absolutely gorgeous!

I would not hesitate to recommend the Anchorage Rooms to travelers looking for budget accomodations in the English Harbour area. It's just important to recognize that for the price, you should not expect any frills.

I am delighted there were many highlights to your week's stay at Anchorage Rooms.

We appreciate your very positive feedback as we always try to address any shortcomings brought to our attention. Clearly my advise on hiking trails was appreciated & you were able to explore interesting parts of both Antigua & Barbuda. The location you thought wonderful & a great choice of restaurants close by.

Your individual perception of the rooms being basic is understandable as you were not aware what budget accommodation referred to. We provided fresh flowers each day in your room & regular beach towels. Being situated in a very dusty environment, the idea is to make the rooms easy to clean & be seen to be clean by guests without unnecessary clutter or possibly tasteless decoration.

All the terraces can be used for sitting in the sun or shade & extra chairs are always readily available. Some guests like to use their room chairs. The cafe now has sofas to add a comfortable option.

Since January 19th , the police now enforce no music after 3am on Saturday & Sunday mornings. English Harbour is a happening place & the Government fully supports partying & late night entertainment for yacht crews & visitors as this is the yachting capital of the Caribbean. But they do accept it's irresponsible to prolong noisy parties beyond 3am as this is a unique residential & commercial where all businesses & residents need to co exist.

This was a business trip and I just stayed on for a couple of extra days to enjoy the sunshine. Had been staying elsewhere in English Harbour at someone else's expense and wanted something cheaper as I had to foot the bill. Found the Anchorage Rooms through TA and made contact with Marilyn. She was really helpful right from the outset. The location is great within a short walk of all the bars, restaurants and marinas. I paid a bit extra for air con and I think it was worth it as it allowed me to close all the windows at night to shut out the noise from all the late parties (this was Antigua Boat Show week). Rooms are basic, but very clean and comfortable. Free wifi was very reliable. Will stay here when I next visit.

Room Tip: Get air con!

It's good to hear that you rate Anchorage Rooms highly whether for a business trip or pleasure & we look forward to accommodating you next time.
We are pleased that now all rooms can offer air conditioning or a stand alone oscillating fan in addition to the one over all the beds. This white noise can help any light sleepers & add to comfort. Cleanliness, comfort & good value for money in a prime location are what we aim to provide & I'm glad you found this to be true.

We moved to Anchorage Rooms from St Philip as we decided to be more central for our last few days in Antigua. Anchorage Rooms are in a great location as the rooms are in English Harbour where there are lots of little bars and nice restaurants. English Harbour is where a lot of the boats and yachts are docked so it is busy and there are lots of things to do but this is also means that the noise at night is quite prominent. The rooms are clean and basic. There is not an option for breakfast or other extras but this is easy to find elsewhere. For a bed in a good location Anchorage Rooms are great.

After the peaceful tranquillity of the St Philip countryside you then ended your first trip to Antigua with the international excitement of sailing life in English Harbour. A big contrast for sure & obviously hard to describe to guests beforehand. The boats are truly an amazing sight in all the harbours.
You'll have had breakfast sitting by the marina gazing at them which is a fine sight. Our on site cafe for breakfast is open for Christmas Day but with building our new dormitory on site we have unfortunately fallen behind schedule. I'm glad you appreciated the fantastic location & all amenities so close by.

I arrived in Antigua having spent 6 days in St Lucia. Before booking my accommodation from London I did do some research, and found this lovely little place called the Anchorage Rooms. It is based in English Harbour close to all the amenities. My Friend and I arrived there for a wedding, not realising that the Hen night and the Wedding reception which took place Nelson Dockyards was all of walking distance. Although very small and offering room only basis, we were happy with the standard of the room which had an on suite. It was spotless and cleaned daily, a lovely place if you are really looking a saving on cost. I am more than happy to stay there again. The night life was only walking distance away around a hundred or so yards. It is also close to the marina, so you had the view of all the lovely boats and if you don't mind a little bit of music coming from the reggage shack next door which was our highlight. 4 stars from me. Thank you to the owner Marilyn and the cleaner Gloria who made us very welcome.

So your research into accommodation in English Harbour needed for the wedding you & your friend attended in Nelson's Dockyard seems to have paid off. It was obviously a nice surprise that it was only a 5 minute walk away from Anchorage Rooms.
Also that you found this central location to be good value for money, clean & welcoming.
