“History & atmosphere meet here”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 9, 2013

This is one of my favourite buildings anywhere. The brickwork, the courtyard, the shutters, the lobby - like stepping back in time in style.
Friday nights, they have a superb seafood experience. Outdoor barbecue, with some tents set up for inclement (never) weather. Linen table cloths, music, attentive staff, Truly a lot of fun in a very nautical setting. Sunset over the fort, yachts lighting up under a blanket of stars.
This is our new favourite Friday night activity.

This hotel lacks managment, apart from the setting and location it had very little else to offer its guests. If you are thinking about visiting you MUST check what services will be available for the duration of your stay.

Chose the Copper and Lumber for our 25th wedding anniversary, as it sounded nice and romantic. The building certainly lived up to our expectations, it really does creak with history and I loved the hardwoods and original brick finishes. Wasn't so happy about the bathroom being on a different floor from the bed in our Georgian suite however, but this may not bother others. Kemlin & Seimone on the reception were exceptionally helpful with our booking and we arrived just in time for the Friday night seafood bake, which we both enjoyed, with good food and music. (value was OK too)
Unfortunately, although we were aware that the restaurant was not available for dinner, we did not realise that the bar also closed in the evenings, which proved very inconvenient on the rainy long weekend we spent there. Also, the breakfast we had on the first day was awful, so we ate out for the rest of our stay. Not a disaster, but it did become a nuisance. Finally, for a room that costs $300+ per night to only have a tiny, old fashioned 15" tv was very disappointing.

We wound up here by accident because the boat we were waiting for wasn't ready. It was a beautiful surprise in the end. This historical building is in a cozy and picturesque dockyard, manicured like a museum. We were even in time for the Friday night seafood bake/party which was full of flavour, welcoming and friendly. Felt very much at home here. We had the caribbean lobster, crab, and lobster cakes. ... and some wine and rum punch. The staff at this hotel were very nice. One of us accidentally injured our leg during the evening and the manager, usher, and desk attendant all went to great lengths to help us. They were so friendly. The room was historic, very clean and the bed was firm, but comfortable after a long flight. Breakfast in the courtyard was dreamy. We would love to stay here again.

Maybe it is not the Best hotel on Antigua for amenities etc, but the sense of history and lovely dark woods and that view across the yachts and harbor ... it is priceless.

I highly recommend a 2 night stay here for any adventurer. The days of pirates andNelson and all that are still hiding in the woodwork here and springs out whenever you do mundane things like brush your teeth while staring at a tea clipper that came into town last night.

Nice and easy place that is set inside a national park to get away from the hustlers and noisy expat bars.

Take a walk up the hill and get such a wonderful view.

Johnny Depp would love it.

Room Tip: Ask for direct harbor view.

We went on a Friday night to the Seafood Bake at the Copper & Lumber Store Restaurant. They aren't ready to serve until about 7 even though the poster says 6. The food was delicious. Coconut shrimp was the best we've had and everything else was wonderful too! A great view and a perfect sxetting for a friday night seafood bake.

Copper and Lumber Company provides excellent accommodations in the historic Nelson Dockyard.

We stayed in the Africa Suite, a two story room with a living room overlooking the dock area and a bedroom with King bed. The furnishings were traditional and lovely and we would point out the beautiful dark wood work throughout.

Note that in this unit, the bath is downstairs from the bedroom and the air conditioning is only in the bedroom.

The staff is very friendly and helpful. The dockyards area is well worth a visit and so is Falmouth Bay a short walk away. We stayed during the annual sailing races and having a close up view of some of the most beautiful sailing yachts in the world was a special pleasure.
