“Wonderful View of English Harbour and Sightseeing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 9, 2014

Grand view over English Harbour and the ocean. Nice little restaurant and facilities. Definitely a place to see part of Antigua. Views across half of the island. Interesting museum and historical displays. Would go back for a couple hours to see it all again. Fee to see the attractions, but its free if you are only going to the restaurant for lunch.

“Don't go on a sunday unless you really like crowds”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2014

We arrived on a Sunday and went straight to Shirley Heights because we heard so much about it. It took 30 minutes to get a drink and forget about the food, the line up was insane and confusing. Way too many people for that little space. View was fantastic, I would go another night when less crowded and enjoy the amazing view. You could barely hear the steel bands with all the noise from people talking. Whatever you do dont't take small children in strollers, you cant get by with all the people.

“Beautiful natural setting with tremendous views but lacking in historical information.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2014

Shirley Heights has the potential to be a fantastic visitor attraction but suffers from a dearth of historical information, images and facilities for tourists. The signs are few and far between and do little to inform you about the deeply interesting history behind the island and this particular location. There is nothing at all interactive to entertain children and barely enough to explain to adults what it's all about. It is also a great shame that of the handful of buildings still standing, most have been allowed to fall into terrible disrepair. The Antiguan government needs to get a grip and start investing money into its history - it's not like there's a lack of foreign investment on the island! Not to be missed, however, for the stunning vistas.

“Overrated”

VERY crowded, limited facilities. Great views but there are plenty of other places with terrific views in Antigua.

“Definitely worth a visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2014

We visited Shirley Heights twice during our stay and it was just amazing. The sunset on our first visit wasn't great but the food and entertainment were fantastic! Everyone is out for a good night and the atmosphere is electric. Admittedly there are quite a number of people that attend this evening celebration so I would advise getting there about 45-60 minutes before sunset to ensure a good spot. The bar does get quite busy, so we ended up buying 2 drinks each at a time. There's also usually a queue of taxi's to get into the place, our taxi driver parked up and came in with us so we didn't have to worry about sitting in the queue.

The steel band were great and usually play first which gives nice background music while the sun is setting. Then they usually have another band on the stage playing from about 7pm who are also just as good and entertaining. I think they have a number of bands rotate on a weekly basis, but I think the steel band are there every week.

We also incorporated a trip to Nelson's dockyard and the blockhouse before arriving at Shirley Heights in time for the sunset. I would definitely recommend visiting Shirley Heights
