“"Perfect recipe for a relaxing holiday"”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 2, 2013

Having been to the Caribbean many times, this was our second visit to Antigua and our first to The Inn at English Harbour. The kids have grown up now, so my wife and I were looking for a very relaxing holiday as a change from our otherwise hectic lifestyle. We could not have found a more idyllic place to spend 12 glorious nights.
Our Junior Suite was large with a good sized bathroom, stocked with quality products. It was spotlessly clean and regularly serviced by the the housekeeping staff. A large private balcony overlooked the beautiful well kept gardens towards the sea.
All of the public areas were very comfortably furnished, including the Library, complete with large TV and internet access.
Being there after the busy part of the season, we found it particularly peaceful - and the other guests seemed to be enjoying that too. The beach was very clean and private with plenty of loungers, hammocks and shade when you needed it.
The food was of a very high standard, with good variety from day-to-day (particularly in the Terrace Restaurant for dinner). Chef was extremely accommodating with regard to special dietary needs.
And so to the staff.........There have been many glowing reports here - and rightly so. Although I could reel them all off, it would be unfair to pick out individual names at risk of taking the spotlight away from the others. Everyone was extremely caring, attentive (the Caribbean pace is what makes it all so relaxing), friendly and good-humoured. Apart from enjoying the service, we really enjoyed their company. Our thanks to them all for making our holiday so special.
This has to be one of the best hotels on the island, with a very individual feel. We look forward to returning to the Inn to re-charge our batteries again.

My wife and I just returned from a seven night visit (June 6-13) at The Inn, and we feel so lucky to have had the opportunity to spend time there. The only other experience we have had in the Caribbean was at a more commercial resort on another island. We felt like The Inn was on a completely different level in all aspects. First of all, there are only 28 guest rooms (our suite was immaculate) making for a much more intimate setting. Couple that with the most amazing beach, superb service, great breakfast and dinner (both food and ambience) and you are in for a real treat! I almost wonder if a previous reviewer even stayed at the same place. The beach was the most tranquil beach I have ever been to. There is another small hotel a good ways down the beach, but during our entire 7 night stay I didn't see a soul there. I even wondered if it was closed altogether. The only other people we saw on the beach were people from the sailboats getting themselves on the shore for a little while. By the way, the sailboats in the bay just add to the tranquil setting. The water taxi is awesome. Come mid afternoon after you can get away from the beach for a while and go walk around Nelsons Dockyard. There are some very good lunch restaurants there if you don't want to eat at lunch at The Inn everyday. Vere, the guy who runs the water taxi, is AWESOME! Another great perk we found about the beach: No beach peddlers trying to sell you cheap crap...not a single one the entire time we were there, which was not the case at the other resort I mentioned earlier. There is also plenty of other stuff to do around the island. Christina found us every morning to ask us if she could arrange any activities, but we just couldn't pull ourselves away from the beach. Another couple that was there told us they did a great sailboat tour of Antigua which Christina helped them set up. Finally both breakfast and dinner were much better than the other resort we stayed at. Since they are only preparing food for a handful of people, rather than hundreds, the quality is much higher. The Reef Restaurant where breakfast is served by the beach is a perfect way to start your day, and the Terrace Restaurant is a great way to end it. Also, if you have a special occasion during your visit like a birthday or anniversary, you can call the front desk before your arrival to make special arrangements.
I could go on and on about The Inn, but the bottom line is this: We will be returning, although next time instead of 7 nights we are staying 10 nights. 7 just wasn't enough!

Room Tip: We stayed in the suites which like I said are immaculate, and large. But the beach cabanna, which is...

On the 1 May this year I celebrated my 50th Birthday with 12 other couples at The Inn at English Harbour and can not recommend the hotel highly enough. The staff were all very friendly, attentive and always smiling from the minute we arrived, to the farewells on our departure. Nothing was too much ask, even a sit down Birthday lunch for 30 of my guests at the beach restaurant was not a problem, they even organised a pianist and singer to serenade us! The hotel itself is beautiful with the main entrance and evening dining set above the colonial accommodation, pool and beach. We were kindly upgraded to an enormous suite, with antique furnishings, four poster bed and wonderful en suite. All air-conditioned but the best was opening the shutters onto a huge veranda over looking the pool, gardens and sea. Just amazing and we will return soon hopefully. Food, wine and rum cocktails all fantastic and the best I've had in the Caribbean.

My wife and I went to the Inn for our honeymoon and after having been to other tropical destinations in the Caribbean, Central America and Hawaii, the Inn didn't measure up that well by comparison.

The good: The rooms are how they appear in photos and were very crisp and clean. It was nice to have a mini bar that was stocked daily with drinks for no charge. There is a lot of seating at the beach and there is a lot to do near the hotel (they have a boat to shuttle you into town). Neal was a great bartender and waiter; he made the dinner experience better every night.

The bad: I feel like they need to work on communicating to the customer. A good example of this is that you are required to wear "trousers" at dinner. I didn't know I was supposed to bring any pants on the trip (not on their site or email communications). Thankfully, I had a pair with me, though we talked with other guests who went into town to purchase pants. They are a little uptight about their beach bar policy; you are not allowed in without a shirt and flip-flops on. I thought this was weird as the beach is literally 10-20 feet from the bar. Additionally, they seem very surprised when you want a second round of drinks and the service on the drinks is pretty slow considering the bar isn't that busy. Their customer relations contact, Christina, was not the best. She introduced herself the first day, but when she was done greeting us, she was gone and didn't offer the chance to ask questions. We had to seek her out to set up things and we ended up finding out more about what the hotel offer from the wait staff. Additionally, the beach was noisy as their were kids on the beach from the neighboring resort and docked boats in the harbor and it was only on the weekend that they asked the kids to go back to their hotel or to not use their facilities.

In the end, this is a place you stay once and don't come back to again. It's a nice hotel, but nothing that memorable and I'm sure there are better places on the island.

Dear Mr. Munson,
Thank you for your review and we are glad that you have appreciated our accommodation, our beautiful location and the good service from our bartender Neil. We have noticed that you were here with us at the end of March at Easter time and it is nice that after over 2 months you still kept us in your thoughts.
However I just would like to clarify a few points you have made.
The English Speaking Caribbean islands are very different from Central America and Hawaii both in landscape and culture and are therefore chosen for their unique charming characteristics that many people appreciate, but are very different from the other places.
Regarding the dress code, we will try to better communicate to our future guests to bring along a pair of slacks for Dinnertime. However, our clientele seems for whatever reason to be aware that both restaurants in the hotel overall require a minimum standard dress code, probably they pick it up from our pictures on the website or are told by their travel agents.
The majority of the reviews praise Cristina, our Guest Services Manager, for her efficiency, kindness and availability. She works 6 or 7 days a week and is always available for guests. She moves between the beach, the boutique and the beach restaurant, all close to each other and she is impossible to miss. In fact she did book for you a massage in the spa, a rental car for one day and arrange for the issuing a golf voucher for you to go and play. Surely, she is not available 24 hours a day and if she is not here there are other people available to assist.
Our beach is definitely not noisy, it is often described as an open library, as our guest love to relaxed and read a good book while sunbathing. However, at Easter time the island on a whole has more people using the beaches and few kids may have come over from the neighboring places but as soon as our staff assessed that they had to intervene, they did so as you saw.
The island offers some nice hotels all very different from each other not necessarily better or worse, we have many returning guests every year and it is a pity that you have not fully enjoyed our property.

Kind regards

The Inn, the beach, the pool, the spa, and the food were simply magnificent. But most of all ... the ambience sets this Inn apart from anyplace else. It is a tranquil and quiet retreat where gentle waves and beautiful views combine for the perfect atmosphere. The second floor suite we occupied was comfortable beyond belief. Our son joined us for our stay and he booked a Beach Cabana. It too was beautiful with a breathtaking view of English Harbor and fronting right on the bay. The dinners were sumptuously prepared. They prepared special dishes for my wife who is a strict vegan ... all were delicious and unique. Be sure to spend a few minutes to find the organic garden off the road behind the tennis courts and speak to Kentee, the head gardener. He is a wealth of knowledge about the garden and about the beneficial properties of the island herbs that are grown there. Much of the Inn's vegetables, salad ingredients and herbs come straight from this organic garden each day --- fresh from the Inn's garden can't be beat! Stunning vistas are everywhere on the property -- between the guest room buildings, near the pool, at the Terrace Restaurant, and even along the road down the hill between the Terrace Restaurant and the guestroom buildings. Go to the Inn at English Harbor ... you will enjoy!

What a lovely hotel this is. We flew in last week from the UK to spend 4 nights here. From the minute you arrive at the hotel to the minute you leave, the staff are so attentive, efficient and friendly. Our room, food, location all excellent. Thanks to Fabio and Christina for making us feel so welcome. Next time we fly back to Antigua we will look forward to staying here again.

We arrived on the 10 th of May and stayed for 7 nights. The upstairs suite room was spacious and had everything we needed. The view out to sea was perfect from the large balcony/deck.
Breakfast was taken at the Reef beach bar and was good but could have had a better selection of fruit/fresh juices.( very erratic, some days mangos on display, bananas etc some days just melon. One of the waiters brought us some mangos from his home)
Lunch was at the same place and was, again, good but menu could have changed a bit daily to vary things.
The bed was quite small compared to what we are used to in 5 star accommodation.

The above are the reasons for the 4 star not 5

None of the above were deal breakers and none of these minor gripes would stop us from revisiting this wonderful resort.

The situation is perfect (5 min taxi/ferry to English Harbour) the beach/sea are fabulous, the staff were so friendly and attentive and the Terrace restaurant was perfect for a romantic, quality, meal for those nights when you didn't want to go out.

All in all a fabulous experience, we would definitely recommend this Hotel.
