I would have to thank all the posters who gave such wonderful information about this resort and basically answered all my questions. We loved the resort. The resort is 25 minutes from the airport (cost $28.00 as one poster was kind enough to tell me in advance). We had a 4 pm flight home and easily arranged a late check out (1:30 pm) on the morning we left. The resort also arranged for a taxi back to the airport (same price, whereas, transfer companies charged double for return). The cottages were nice, not what I could rate a 5 star. But for the ambience they are going for, perfect. Small seaside cottages, whitewashed walls inside and out, with a nice verandah (we had waterfront). Simple but tastefully decorated in the jewel tones (I think brighter colors would have been better). Bathrooms are average and overall cleanliness I would rate a 10. Some previous posters said that they could hear their neighbor and for the 7 nights we were there I never once heard them or their TV. The bed was comfortable, but the pillows are a little to hard. The food was very good to excellent for an all-inclusive. We have been to several all-inclusives (Couples, Grand Lido, Punta Cana, Cancun, Riveria Maya) and both my husband and I felt that perhaps this was the best overall. Breakfast was the norm and I really can't imagine anyone not finding something that was good. All sorts of teas (except Green Tea, I brought my own). They had the catch of the day prepared any way you like at the Beach Bar and I believe at the Seabreeze buffet. Great salad bar, cold cuts and several choices of cheeses. I love soup and thought the soups were superb. Offered were a variety of beef and chicken entrees, in addition to vegetarian meals (served a veggie burger at the beach bar and a very good eggplant parmesan at Nicoles). Plenty of vegetables, potatoes, rice and local delicacies, all I tried except one I couldn't (goat). They offered a special menu for kids too. I was a former travel agent (15 yrs as an agent) and remember going to Couples in 1979 (who for the most part started the all inclusive concept) and how they gave you everything top shelf. I felt the Verandah did just that. Quality liquor served in normal glasses, not plastic cups, wine served in wine glasses and daiquires, rum punches, etc, served in tall glasses, beer..beer glasses. I only drink water and seltzer and I did find it odd that they didn't offer bottled water. Due, of course, to the eco-friendly concept they are trying to follow. It just so happens that the tap water was perfectly fine for me. The staff was excellent, could not do enough for you. I no sooner finished something the plate was whisked away, drinks were constantly refreshed. Most of the management staff came from the St James Club (same owner as the Verandah) and some are new and doing a great job. The watersport/beach team were terrific, we did more watersports than we ever have on a vacation. We didn't find the steps to the beach a problem, but I could see it being a problem for some. Although we did have a few elderly people there and they seem to manage quite well. They do have another beach that isn't used, primarily because most of the rooms by it are not finished. It's access is a little better and we felt had a better view. It also was better for sailing the Hobie's or sunfish sailboats. Both beaches are small cove shaped and the water refreshing (not to warm or cold). If you like waves then this may not be the place for you. The gym was great...all Cybex equipment...two treadmills, elliptical, recumbent bike, and free standing weight system and circuit equipment.
Weather was outstanding...it rained between 1am and 5 am for about an hour and by the morning was clear to partly cloudy (average 80-85 degrees). Slight breeze throughout they day into the evening (I personally needed a shawl or sweater at night). It was funny because I would check every weather website before we left and it showed 30-60% rain every day, all day and this was just not the case.
Entertainment was offered every night, but we never quite stayed up long enough to observe. Did hear that it was pretty good though. They do have the Pirate's Den equipped with a pool table and about ten slot machines. The pool bar has two TV's so you could sit and watch whatever (got to watch the two football playoff games) Yeah Giants!!
Mosquitoes...never saw one...thank goodness because they love me. A few people went off property and seemed to have gotten bitten. Bring the bug spray and a little vinegar (in case you get bitten it helps ease the itch, works for me).
Lastly, we met so many wonderful people (from Britain, Canada and NJ) and I do believe that makes the vacation that much better.
Only advice I can say is what you like and I like could be totally different so digest a few of this reviews (good or bad) and hopefully you will be able to compile enough information to decide which resort/island is the best for you.
