Absolutely lovely! My husband and I came for a well earned break and it just happened to be my birthday whilst we were away too.
This hotel is just amazing, the setting, the ambiance, the staff who are all fiercly proud both of the hotels reputation and the fact that they work there.
So 10 nights of paradise, we had a beachfront suite, which was set just back off the beach, it was behind the front row of cottages, so not directly on the beach, but I feel this helped with privacy (suite # 18). Lovely decoration, comfy bed, massive tub and very nice outside rainfall shower (additional power attachment for rinisng sand out your hair!) with toiletries supplied (large bottle of shampoo, conditioner & shower gel). But note, there is no door and a large rectangular opening in the wall separating the living area and bathroom - not so romantic, but I beleive may be being addressed.
Arrival - bumpy road - stops the place being over run as its not a private beach - and I was told the owner belives it adds to the secludedness of the hotel - which is true. No bother in a 4x4 but normal cars take around 15-20 mins depending on conditions. Met by the friendly reception staff, given a cold towel and a virgin mojito, very refreshing. The real deal mojito is one of the best I have had and at all inclusive sure beats the £9 you pay in Harvey Nicols. Shown to our lovely suite where there is a fully stocked mini bar and a plate of fresh fruit. Security is around the hotel and discreet.
Both the Residential Manager Michael who is absolutely lovely, where nothing is too much trouble and has worked in some of the most fantastic international hotels, and one of the owners, again, very down to earth and lovely made sure that each and every guest was made to feel special.
I cannot mention all of the staff by name, but its a huge team effort some of them you will remember more than others, as in any aspect of life, but they are all friendly and do as much as they can to make your stay pleasant, but in particular, I would like to say how fantastic the watersports guys Janice & Devon are, so patient teaching sailing and taking folks out snorkling and also helping out with guests on the beach re towels and moving of sunbeds (Janice in particular was fantastic in orchestrating my lack of colour I have to burn before I go brown, and so she gave me an extra towel to cover over every so often). Ziggy who looks after the guests on the beach with drinks, fresh fruit and afternoon tea. Roslyn & Linda and all of the other bar staff are also great. You have to try a Hermitage gold - yum, champange & wine by the glass are all inc, as is Bombay Saphire Gin, Tanquery Gin, some of the Johnny Walker Whiskys and a particularly lovely MacAllan 12yr old malt. The delux brands such as Tanquery Ten and some brandies etc are priced at $20.
The Gins are leathal - I have a few blank memories of walking back to the suite!
The restaurant is fantastic, the staff are prompt, the serivce is timeous, glasses topped up regularly. Meals are beautifully presented and tasty! Portions are on the large side. I have back problems which plagued me the whole time, as I found the restaurant chairs made my back sore, they very kindly put a different chair into the restaurant for me which was more comfy. On my birthday, they set our table with extra candles and some coral and shells from the beach. As Toni one of the lovely waitresses says "Just take two minutes out of each day to look around and take it in" not just referring to your holiday, but also in life!
Total relaxation - we went out a couple of times which was good, the reception can organise taxis for you.
Its so quiet and relaxing, you literally have to do as much or as little as you like.
Spa is also very good. We had a couples massage which was my husbands first experience of a relaxation massage rather than a remedial sports massage! I also had a manicure and we took our complementary 30 min massage on our last day which was nice (actually better than the massages at Stobo, although I would guess it depends on the individual therapist) - guests staying over 3 nights can have the complementary massage.
The only problem we encountered was the restocking of the minibar, I have seen other reports on tripadvisor with similar reports. I suggested on my comments form that they have a mini bar request form - there is all sorts in there (some of which just took up space), including fresh milk for your tea/coffee, and which if your mini bar is not serviced turns yukky. I drink G & T, my hubby usually lager or the odd Rum or Whisky and water and soft drinks like sprite and coke. Three times over the ten days I had to phone them to re stock, this would have been five if we hadnt had extra delivered one night after phoning, and we hadnt been out one night. Also, if they dont restock the mini bar you can bet that there is no ice for your G&T either! Other than that I couldnt fault the hotel or its staff.
Entertainent a few nights a week one of the best was Buell : Strings that Sing - I will be checking out his myspace page, he was brilliant, especially his rendition of The Eagles, Hotel California. There was also a calypso duo, a steel band, a jazz band and a singer with a keyboard - all very good. None of them intrusive apart from the Jazz, which I am not a fan of.
All in all, if you want quiet, complete relaxation where nothing is too much trouble and you can go out & about if you want something abit more rowdy at night this is the place for you. Thanks to Michael & his team - it was fanitastic, we will be back.
