We have just come back from a week’s holiday at Yepton Estate Cottages. It was a real wow! As soon as we stepped from the taxi, the owners – Gabriela and Douglas were there to greet us warmly and without fuss. Registration was easy and Gabriela offered to take us into St Johns the next day to stock up with food & drink, which we gratefully accepted.
The cottage overlooked the lagoon and the setting was very tranquil and peaceful. The interior of the cottage was very tastefully and elegantly fitted out and so spacious. What amazed me was the shine from the pots and pans hanging over the ‘kitchen workplace.’ The cottage was very thoughtfully kitted out with a cool box and barbeque and hammock on the balcony. The complimentary bottle of wine was a very nice gesture and we went for more!!!
The next morning we were pleasantly surprised to see so many birds in and out of the lagoon. (posted some pictures) We went shopping with Gabriela and were able to stock up quite a bit for the week. We decided not to hire a car although the cottage is about 25 minutes drive from St Johns and there were no shops or supermarket within distance, but this did not stop us having a good time. We wanted to see Devils Bridge, Half Moon Bay, Betty’s Hope and a few other places and Gabriela organised a taxi driven by Captain Spencer. We had an interesting and informative outing that day.
On another day, we walked to the main road (about 20 minutes) to catch the No 61 bus to St Johns bus station (EC $5 equiv. to approx. £1for the two of us) and then the No 17 bus to Nelson’s Dockyard at English Harbour (EC $7+ for 2 ). It was an adventure and the people were so friendly and what was nice was the people that came on board would say ‘good morning or good afternoon’ to all. The bus plays music and on the one to the English Harbour, people were singing away to the songs.
We also booked to go to Shirley Heights on the Sunday evening and were very lucky to have Captain Spencer as our driver again. This trip is a must, with good music and a fantastic view of the sun setting.
Douglas and Gabriela are very thoughtful owners. Douglas walked around sometimes and had a chat, helping with ideas of things to do on the island. Gabriela also offered to get us things when she went into town.
I could rant on and on and no, but we loved this small and intimate resort. We love self catering because we like to get out and about and within our own timetable. Not having a car didn’t hamper us in our travels in any way.
One of the best things (amongst others) about this place is the lagoon. There are so many different species of birds to see.
There are two resorts close by, Coconut Beach Club and the Royal Antigua, which you can use. The bay at the Royal Antigua was calmer than Coconut Beach, and less crowded. It almost felt like a private beach! In fact, there was a lovely calm sea breeze when we walked there one evening to watch the sunset and the scenery was simply beautiful.
We had a Wonderful time there and would recommend Yepton Estate Cottages to anyone who wants a holiday to chill out and relax.
