While attending a conference is Antigua, we were invited to this unique training school/restaurant located very close to the Airport on the north of the island.
The grounds are beautiful and a lot of care and attention is given to manicuring the lawn and small gardens. The view is spectacular with an ocean view from the hillside location of the restaurant. You can see the top class Jumby Bay Resort Island (Long Island) too.
The trainees who greeted us in the reception were very polite and enthusiastic about what they were doing. They seemed to have a lot of pride in what they were doing but as I will explain later in the review pride does not necessarily translate into good service.
It is a training school so we expected a few hiccups and nervousness coming from the trainees but what we got instead was a total lack of basic standards coming from the trainees. To say they did not know whether to serve from the left or the right would be accurate. The trainers were not supervising the trainees properly as they too were seen dining. There needs to be some serious work here behind the scenes and it has to start from the trainers. I am not blaming this entirely on the trainees because they are there to learn and it is obvious that they were not being taught well.
The food was salty and it came to the table cold. This too is unacceptable whether or not it is a training school. Better preparation and time management is needed in the kitchen.
Overall this place has the potential to be a gem in Antigua and Barbuda's tourism industry providing niche services but they need to get it right and soon.
