Stayed at Royal Antiguan in Nov 2003. Rained every single day-worst weather they had had for over 40 years! Anyway, food in Lagoon buffett restaurant was good, cafe on the beach(when you could make it down there in the rain!!) was also good too. Went on AI basis, is pricey if going on R/O. Most staff nice, some downright rude though! Floor's very slippery and reception area quite shabby and in need of update. Rooms adequate but nothing special. Didnt get towels until approx 7pm at night. On arrival, greeted with a lovely rum punch which took the annoyance away of having to wait for nearly 20 mins to check in as only two people answering phones, doing check in/out and also any other business on reception. Hotel was not prepared for bad weather activities. Overall was disappointed in hotel and wouldnt go back, but would go back to Antigua and stay elsewhere. St.Johns is great, fantastic shopping, cigarettes and booze really cheap ( duty free port as all cruiseliners dock there )

Some of the reviews we read ,before going to the Royal Antiguan resort said the staff was not friendly , that is not true , not for our 7 nights there. The Safari Tour was fun , the weather was great, loved the pool. Sure the place needs an uplift, but a busy place usually does. Having been in business ,we know that some people are impossible to please, you know who you are !!!. Relax, enjoy the sun , life is too short to worry about a towel , ice cubes, or whatever some guests had trouble with. We have traveled all over the Carribean, and this place is as good as the rest. If paying more, makes you think that your time will be better, then by all means go for it. Thank you, Tony & Linda

we have just returned from a week at the royal antiguan.Myself my partner and our two children Katie and Jack had the most wonderful time, by far the best holiday we had ever had.The hotel and staff were faultless,it really showed Antigua how it really is,forget all the fancy facades of the other resorts on the island, the royal antiguan shows the true spirit of antigua and the wonderful antiguan people. We went on a room only package with virgin and charged all our food and drinks to our room, between the four of us our bill came to $1000 which is about ?600 which considering the quality of the food especially in the lagoon cafe was exceptional value for money ,it probably saved us ?400 on the all-inclusive package and believe me we ate well.{dont miss out on the omlettes for breakfast} Trip wise we went on an all day cruise on the caribbean queen and what a day we had, snorkeling ,eating ,drinking and partying in the company of a most wonderfull crew, they really know how to let their hair down. This we booked with Alexandra on the beach, what a wonderfull guy, please dont book trips with your reps let the locals have the commision. All in all our stay was fantastic dont listen to the critics and their blinkered opinions stay at the royal antiguan and experience an authentic antiguan holiday.

The Hotel is a little tired, but clean. Hotel rooms large and clean also. Staff incredibly friendly, beach one of the best in the area for sole use - not sharing with any other hotels and safe for little ones.
We found the food in the hotel excellent and the majority of guests very friendly. You get what you pay for and those people who have moaned should be prepared to spend double what this hotel cost and share their holiday with likeminded people who don't know how to enjoy themselves and think they are something they are not!. The staff will react to how they are treated themselves and holiday makers should remember that. Antigua is a beautiful island - we will definitely make another trip.

The Royal Antiguan is a fantastic resort, and excellent value for money. Extremely laid back atmosphere, spacious rooms, beautiful gardens and pool area, and the beach is one of the best on the island.
We got married there in January 2003, and returned to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary this year. What a wonderful time we had. I say ignore the critics and the moaners - take no notice, this is by far a superior location to the sandals resort. You wont find a better all inclusive resort in Antigua, just a more crowded and expensive one! The saff were great (except a few down right rude ones, especially at the pool bar), you get the odd miserable one wherever you go. If you had a problem, the management sorted it immediately. We were up-graded to a sea and bay view which was fantastic, so just ask if you feel the need.
Thoroughly reccommend the all-inclusive option, meals and drinks are very expensive not just in the hotel, but all over the island, so you really do get good value for money if you go all-inclusive. The younger children are entertained by two very enthusiastic activity co-ordinators, and the adults can join in as much or as little as you fancy. Always volleyball, or somthing to do. Free watersports on the beach. All in all, a fantastic resort, and i'll certainly be going back. Can I just say hello to Jeanette and Tony from Scarborough, and Kerry and Graham with little daisy. Thanks for helping us have a fantastic holiday.
