We stayed at the Siboney for a week. Our first impressions were what a dump!. The large amount of money we payed did not show through. 1. Local area: very little around, a swomp one side and a lovely beach the other. A beach resturant with good food but were over chraged on our bill 3 out of 5 times. It was the only resturnant around, although you could eat at one of the other 2 hotels. 2. Hotel rooms: very very over priced. small 1 bedroom, tiny very basic, dated kitchen, but it worked. Thank god for the fridge, as this kept our drinking water cool. decor very dated and simple. AC only in beedroom. Despite window screens, we were eaten alive by insects. main sliding door had no screen. This didn't help. A nice patio as we were on groung floor. 3. Hotel grounds: lovely lush tropical gardens. 4. location: other than a very charming, postcard beach, there is nothing else. please note there is no public transport and taxi's are very expensive. (24-28$US to travel 4-5 miles-and I though living in London was a rip off.
5. Hotel staff: most of the time very pleasant, owener very nice. Although on check-out the staff failed to make it clear that the late check-out bill was in $US, not in local $EC. Therefore the latecheck-out resulted in a very over priced uexpected bill.
6 Over all view of Antigua: Very Very over priced and a very poor value for money destination. (accomidation, food- nothing to write home about., transport). Furthermore you are forced to pay everything in $US. despite a fixed $US-Local$EC exchange rate, much of the time the bills were caculated with a independant exchange rate. Yet again you are ripped off.
Despite the Siboney hotel being over priced and poor value for money compared to other holiday destinations around the would, it is however a reasonable hotel compared to what the island has to offer. Last note: for those of you who are not American: take $US notes as the ATM's are much of the time out of order. we were stuck without money for 3 days as 100% of all ATM's were faulty. arranging money over the bank counter is a very very lengthy task. You don't need the hassel.

  • Liked — the garden
  • Disliked — over priced. But compared to the rest of antigua, its reasonable
  • Tips/Secrets: — The world has better value and more interesting places other than Antigua.

An anniversary getaway that was perfect. The treehouse was warm and intimate. The staff from the reception, to the housekeeping, and of course the owner Tony Johnson were so receptive to the guests, you felt instantly relaxed. The cocktails were 20 feet from the water. Oh yes, the flora and fauna beautiful. Thank you for a wonderful 3 day stay. Oh yes there was one drawback. We wanted to extend and their was no availability. My unfortunate error. I won't make that error again.

After having to change our honeymoon accommodation to Siboney Beach Club fatecould not have dealt us a better hand.

We were greeted by a warm welcome from the staff at Siboney and the locals, especially Victor who is a genious with his bead work.

The accommodation was clean and spacious. Our room opened onto a balcony which overlooked the very well maintained and lush beautiful gardens. In the mornings we shared our tea and biscuits on the balcony with the birds and lizzards and in the evenings we listened to songs of the tree frogs and the sound of the waves crashing onto the beach.

After reading some reports on here about mossies, I thought we were going to get bitten alive, but it really wasn't that bad. When i got alittle itchy in the evening it was just an excuse to go for a late night dip in the pool.

Being 6 months pregnant we wanted to relax as much as possible so enjoyed many afternoons relaxing in the idilyic gardens, taking the occasional dip in the adequately sized pool with only the humming birds for company.

We had decided to go for a non inclusive deal so we could travel around (I would recommend you hire a car so you can see as much of the Island as possible) and were not tied to eating in the same place every night, but we found that the only time we ate out was at the romantic Coconut Grove restaurant. The food and the service was amazing.

In the evenings we sat on the beach outside Siboney and watched the amazing views of the sun setting. There is a point here which juts out into the sea (known locally as point blank as a certain person (jerry) has been fishing here for a year and not managed to catch anything.) My husband saw this as a challenge and sat dilengently in the evenings bothering the fish. He has now broken the curse by catching an aray of different fish, eels and stingrays.

We would not hesitate to recommend Siboney to anyone wanting a romantic, relaxing holiday, and we will return here as soon as possible.

Should you, after reading these reports decide to stay at Siboney please send our regards to the staff at Siboney, Jerry, the unsuccessful english fisherman (he can usually be found in the bar at coconut with a diet coke and rum, Mansfield the master weaver, and especially Victor, the bead daddy.

Antony, Victoria and the bump.

Just returned from a week at the Siboney and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Accomodation was clean and spacious, with daily cleaning and towels and a mid-week change of sheets. There is only air conditioning in the bedroom - but this wasn't a problem for us as the ceiling fan in the lounge was more than adequate.

All the staff were very welcoming and friendly, especially Sonia on reception and Wesley behind the bar at Coconut Grove.

There is a good sized pool in the gardens. The gardens are beautiful - full of lush tropical plants. Although we didn't use the pool - no need with such a fantastic beach steps away (and plenty more stunning beaches to choose from on the island).

Food at next door Coconut Grove was delicious with a good selection of dishes at breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Best of all was sipping a rum at sunset on the beach!

This charmer is ideal for people who loathe all-inclusives, which are beginning to overrun Antigua as they do Jamaica and the Dominican Republic. The "suites" are well designed, with sufficient kitchen facilities to cook breakfast and snacks. I peeked into a couple of others; the decor varies, but it's always fresh, with some appealing island touches. The living room could use AC on stifling days, but the sofabeds are perfect for families. Coconut Grove is a classic beachfront restaurant (they shouldn't blast reggae or Top 40 during dinner, but it adds to the lively ambience), with usually fine French-Caribbean food. The "private" section of Dickenson Bay is smallish but well-maintained. We loved the intimacy, the magical garden, and the genuinely warm service (Tony Johnson, an Aussie who's lived on Antigua for 40+ years, seems to know everyone and everything on island... you must pump him for advice and even local gossip!). Siboney isn't really a 5-star resort in terms of facilities and service, but it is in every other respect and offers fantastic value for the location.
