I have read the previous recent reviews with interest. We so loved Blue Waters that I felt compelled write to offer my thoughts too. One writer before me states that this hotel was below average compared to the Middle East. I understand where they are coming from however I feel they have missed the beat of this hotel and Island. This is because the Blue Waters ISN'T a swanky bijoux marble and gold lined vacuum, nor an art covered statement.. This is grown up, sophisticated and relaxed idyll where people of all ages and in all situations whether on a romantic break or a family break can feel comfortable and free to create the holiday of their choice as oppose to being intimidated by the polish. This hotel is traditional and grand as oppose to new and pretentious. This hotel is about beautiful gardens and peaceful white bedrooms with grand high ceilings and ceiling fans (as well as air conditioning.) About drifting off to sleep under an umbrella on the decking over the unbelievably blue sea with the sound of pelicans occasionally diving into the water next to you as they dive to catch fish. It is about fresh grilled king prawns straight off the BBQ for lunch washed down with delicious rum cocktails, which were consistently delivered with huge Caribbean smiles. In short this place is so special. Don't go there if you are looking for a uncomfortably swish hotel where your crease in your shirt makes you feel out of place, DO go there if you want a truly romantic, grand but relaxed and comfortable 'real' atmosphere.
P.S the mosquitos on the whole island are pretty bad, even at Lunchtime! So do use repellent whenever you go under-cover to eat.

Because I relyed heavily on Trip Advisor comments when planning our trip to Antigua I felt I must write a review and let people know just how perfect this hotel was. My boyfriend and I stayed for one week and we had a beautiful time! I cannot believe some of the things people complain about!!! We decided that anyone who does not have a good experience at Blue Waters may not have a good time anywhere....

The resort is well kept, clean, and beautiful. The staff are amazing---we did not have one bad encounter during our entire stay. You treat them with respect and they will do the same. Yes it may take awhile to recieve a drink on the beach now and then but if I'm not mistaken, that is just the way the carribbean is and you don't go there to rush. Definitely do the all-inclusive plan, and enjoy the food because it is GREAT! We loved every meal and the drinks were wonderful too. Wine never stopped coming at dinner and both restaurants were really above average. We didn't want to eat anywhere else on the island. There are 3 small beaches which are beautiful but tiny so we took a short 7 minute trip one day to Dickensons Beach to enjoy a long white sandy beach and crystal waters...it was a great place to go to try another beach while you are there. It only cost maybe 20 dollars for a cab there and back. The worst part of the Blue Waters beach was right on the main beach by the dock--go to the other 2 beaches and the water is better and there are not so many shells. We also took the sunday trip to Shirley Heights which I recommend---it is a 30 minute or so bus ride to a high overlook on the island where you listen to local bands and watch the sunset. The resort is quiet and peaceful, not many children, and mostly Brittish.

Things to keep in mind---if you want a completely unobstructed view of the ocean you might want to request the 100 block because the other blocks have a palm tree here and there in your view. Take bug spray as the mosquitos are pretty bad and while you don't notice them around you when you come home you have been bitten more than once! There is no partying on the resort so if you are looking for nightlife this is not the place--but the music at night is nice. Come here if you want to spend the day on the beach and relax! There is no ATM on the resort grounds so make sure to bring cash if you need it. Do the all-inclusive--it is worth it and you won't be disappointed.

We really enjoyed ourselves and would recommend this hotel to anyone who wanted to enjoy a week of paradise!

Overall an adequate Hotel, supposedly 4 star but actaully 3+. and the feeling is the second best on Island, when rated against European and Far East hotels it is way below expected standards, however it appears to be good by Eastern Carribean. The rooms have all the normal fascilites you would expect but need bringing uptodate. Service is good but slow, don't expect slick attention, however the staff are very friendly and meaningful e.g. laundry took two days and lost some bits, but found eventually, everything works, you just have to "chill out" as they say.

Beach towells and loungers clean but getting tired. The staff make up for short falls in Hotel but need a firmer management (which is about to happen) it just needs a bit more finesse.

Definately take an all inclusive deal here, otherwise drinks (Beer $5) and food ($US250 for dinner for 4) are very expensive for the average food and service.

Very handy for the town of Saint Johns and for sea trips.
If you are happy with a very distant second best to the Carlisle Bay Hotel but very friendly atmoshere and a feeling among guests of "well, we are here now and its better than OK buy not perfect" then stay here.

I was actually sad to leave, as it began to feel like a pair of old slippers, comfortable, but deep down you know you need new ones....

My wife and I spent four nights at the Blue Waters few weeks ago and we were a bit disappoinnted to find a good resort but not as special as we expected reading the other comments.
We had a very pleasant check in: a Swiss attendant ( Marina ) greeted us and checked us in offering us a cold towel and a nice fruit drink.
We booked a beachfront room: the room was nice and average clean, bed confortable the bathroom a bit tired, the verandah was lovely however the air conditioning was not working and it was damn hot inside there. Though we checked in at 4 PM , our problem was solved only at 9 PM ( after many requests ) when they accepted to move us to another room which was same grade but nicer. We didn't like the way they managed the problem: when you pay 400 US per day (B/B), you expect faster service, even in the Caribbean !
We didn't have problems with insects or bugs.
Breakfast was just average in quality and quantity: we had dinner once at the restaurant and found the food not so special and service very slow ( even if we were just a handful of people, it took a long time to have dinner ). This made us decide to find alternative restaurants for the remaining evenings.
The setting is very nice and the grounds are very well maintained; unfortunately the beach at the resort is very small and the water not the best of Antigua.
We didn't enjoy the night entertainment but we heard nice caribbean music coming from the lobby area every night.
What was mostly disappointing was the bad attitude of the staff: never had a smile, most of them lazy and not so happy to help, very bad trained: only Marina gave us some help and informations and we appreciated what she did for us.
Overall: yes, we could stay there again but, hey ! for that amount of money we paid, we believe that everything should be better !

We flew to Blue Waters for the first week of our honeymoon and it was perfect. We were exhausted from our wedding and had a pretty awful trip to Antigua - frustrating things like broken TV sets on the plane etc, so we were pleased to arrive.
We bypassed the organised transportation and got a private taxi to the hotel, and were greeted with a rum punch on arrival and a quick transfer to our room with a porter who pointed out where everything was. The food was great - Vivien's was our favorite, but the rest of the food was good considering the amount of people there were catering for. We were never bored!
Service at times could be very slow, but we werent in a hurry for drinks or food - both of which were abundant.
Whilst we were there we were plagued by mosquitoes - everyone was bitten and anti-mosi spray didnt seem to work either - that was our only downside to our holiday.
The staff were very friendly, it wasnt crowded and there werent many children - perfect for a honeymoon!
Whilst we loved Blue waters, we didnt like Antigua. Nelson's dock yard was interesting, but its not the nicest island in the Caribbean. For our second week we headed to Barbados which is gorgeous! We would definitely go back to Blue Waters - its just a shame its not on a different island!
