“Lovely, very quiet place with a tiny beach”

Blue Waters

We have just returned from 7 days at Blue Waters with our 14 and 16 year old children. The resort is gorgeous and very lush. We found the staff to be very gracious with high standards to please. Our room was beach front and the view was probably the best we have ever had. The furnishings were new and very comfortable.

The beach was our only big disappointment. Though it is gorgeous and perfect for sailing and kayaking, you cannot walk on it as it is very short (maybe 50yds?). It also had a lot of sea weed in it so we did not spend much time in the water. The 3 pools are quite small, but spotless with good service.

We did not do the all inclusive plan and are very glad that we did not. The Palms has a great breakfast and 4pm tea time each afternoon. We did not enjoy the Palms dinner, but loved the Cove. It is not to be missed because of it's gorgeous setting (high on the cliffs, awesome sunsets) and wonderful service. We also took cabs ($10-15 USD) to Home and Coconut Grove. I highly recommend both, but cannot adequately praise the food and service at Home. It is located in the chef's former home and he describes each menu option to many of the guests. It is located on the outskirts of St. Johns and I am certain it is the best local, casual cuisine on the island.

For excursions, we did the Circumnavigation tour with Wadadli Cats and it was awesome!!! An unbelievable view of the entire island, with great food, music and people to boot! We also did the Rainforest Canopy Tour which was a blast for the kids.

We enjoyed our stay at Blue Waters and would probably return. If a long, strolling beach is a top priority you might want to look elsewhere.

Together with my husband and 19 yr old son, we spent 7 days at Blue Waters in late March. When booking this resort we were concerned that our son may become bored, as most of the reviews seem to imply that there was little to do. But this was not the case, we spent our days on the beach, either just catching the sun, swimming, canoening or sailing. We all wanted to chill-out, and that is definitely what we got. It is not the liveliest of resorts, but the service is very good, the beach is small but sufficient for the amount of people it caters for. There is always plentiful of umbrellas around the pools, if we want an umbrella on the beach, you may have to get up at 7.00 a.m. to reserve a place by placing a towel over it.. The evenings were quiet, but we entertained ourselves playing cards. There were other families with small children but teenagers were few. However if one is looking for quality time with the famility without the distraction of loud music, Blue Waters is definitely the place.

Our only disapointment was the food. For a 4/5 star resort the food was low quality. We tried Vivien's restaurant, which service was outstanding, however extremely stuffy and awful food. From then onwards we stuck to Palms restaurant, which offered plentiful of salads.

The resort is very clean, the service is extremely good. Overall we had a good experience.

“The new amazing Cove Suites”

Blue Waters

Mar 28, 2008

Once again Blue Waters exceeded my expectations.

I stayed in one of the new Cove Suites and it was totally incredible. Thre is so much space, a swimming pool for wach "block" (i.e. one for every 7 suites), which makes seven pools for the hotel.

The service was fantastic - Carolyn was superb, as was Marina, Raoul, Reginald and Pearl.

The evening entertainment was brilliant, with a mixture of local and fusion music.

The food again was excellent, with local fish caught that day.

I cannot recommend this place highly enough. Go and you won't be disappointed !

“Beautiful location and fantastic staff”

Whilel this is a really attractive hotel with the best staff you could find anywhere we did encounter one or two problems. Unfortunately my husband prefers small restaurants so booked Vivyans most nights but the food was not good, I had a lobster so rubbery that I couldn't eat it and every night the meat or fish was dry and tough and the meals very uninspiring. However, the staff were great and always rescued the evening with their charm, courtesy and attention. The 2 nights when we did eat in the Palms it was definitely better and the lamb in the Cove was to die for. Now that the Cove development is complete you can walk to it within the security of the hotel grounds or the staff will run you across in a golf buggy-useful when it rains! The thing that drove me mad was not being able to get a sunbed on the beach or round the pools because they are all bagged by 7 in the morning as though the hotel is inhabited by Germans. This is so infuriating when most of them do not appear until after 10.am. Actually the clientele was mainly Brits with a sprinkling of Americans. Also while we were there the two main pools were very murky and you could not see the bottom of the pool for at least 9 days and this had not been dealt with when we left. The beach is very small and is not really big enough for the number of people who wish to use it. On the day we left we heard that the manager is leaving next week and his replacement has not yet been seen. However, in spite of the problems we had a really relaxing holiday in a lovely hillside junior suite with one of the best bathrooms we ve encountered in the caribbean and simply fell in love with the all the staff. The cleanliness was unsurpassable and the grounds were beautiful and immaculate.

“A Great Hotel for Relaxing”

Blue Waters

Mar 25, 2008
1/2 found this review helpful

Great resort hotel set in an up market area of Antigua.
Made for relaxing with 3 pools, one adults only, another pool one depth only favored by people with children and the third 6ft max depth by the pelican bar. With three beaches there is plenty of room. We were there when the hotel was full. The hotel says no reserving beds by the pool or on the beach but in practice beds are still reserved by the guests. Has an internet service with two screens but with wireless connection this was very unreliable and kept cutting out. In 10 days stay only managed to sent 1 email. Cost is $5US for 30mins.

Food was very good. Main restaurant is the Palm for all those on all inclusive and as we were on the breakfast plan we had breakfast and dinner at the Palm. Breakfast buffet with eggs as you like cooked to order with usual UK and USA breakfast stuff. Lunchtime snacks are served by the beach bar and are reasonable. Draught Waldadli beer is $4US for about half litre. Cocktails about $8US. Wine 250ml glass is $5US. BUT all purchases have 10% service and 10.5% gov. tax added. Obviously if all inclusive you do not pay. Prices were cheaper than the UK and depending on how much you think you can consume, whether you go for the all inclusive or breakfast plan. You can change up to all inclusive when you are there at any time for $252US per day per couple. We never got near this figure so breakfast plan was right for us. We never went to the a’ la carte Vyviens restaurant as we were happy with the food at the palm. All inclusive will pay a supplement to eat there.

We stayed in a deluxe beachfront and it was a good size with great views. Room very clean and serviced with efficiency by the maids. Bed was 6ft wide with 6 pillows. A sheet and a duvet. Linen changed every 2 days. Ceiling fan and air con. with fridge and tea and coffee machine all replenished daily by the maids. The good size balcony had 2 comfy chairs and 1 sun lounger plus glass topped table with sun umbrella. Not overlooked in any way. Bathroom had 2 washbasins, bath with overhead shower with big shower head.
Turn down service each night with newsletter on the next days events and weather. Flat screen TV with BBC World and USA channels. Good room service menu with $5US delivery charge.

Lots of wildlife in the gardens with humming birds, pelicans, egrets and lots of fantastic flowers. The hotel runs a shuttle each day to St John’s at $8US per person each way. Leaves at 9.30am and leaves ST John’s at 12.30pm. Personal taxi to ST. John’s is $12US plus tip each way. A taxi to see the island is for 3.5 hours tour $110US plus tip. Taxi’s are based at the hotel so you can negotiate where to go and for how long and the price.

We enjoyed our stay, our 6th in Antigua but 1st at Blue Waters, and was impressed by the good service and the well motivated staff who looked happy as they all do in Antigua. The room was excellent and we enjoyed the food. The only down part was nothing to do with the hotel but the one hour it took to get through immigration at the airport and we were one of the first off the plane. Other guests arrived few days latter had a two hour wait to clear immigration. They need to sort this out as it is getting like American immigration.
