Great resort hotel set in an up market area of Antigua.
Made for relaxing with 3 pools, one adults only, another pool one depth only favored by people with children and the third 6ft max depth by the pelican bar. With three beaches there is plenty of room. We were there when the hotel was full. The hotel says no reserving beds by the pool or on the beach but in practice beds are still reserved by the guests. Has an internet service with two screens but with wireless connection this was very unreliable and kept cutting out. In 10 days stay only managed to sent 1 email. Cost is $5US for 30mins.
Food was very good. Main restaurant is the Palm for all those on all inclusive and as we were on the breakfast plan we had breakfast and dinner at the Palm. Breakfast buffet with eggs as you like cooked to order with usual UK and USA breakfast stuff. Lunchtime snacks are served by the beach bar and are reasonable. Draught Waldadli beer is $4US for about half litre. Cocktails about $8US. Wine 250ml glass is $5US. BUT all purchases have 10% service and 10.5% gov. tax added. Obviously if all inclusive you do not pay. Prices were cheaper than the UK and depending on how much you think you can consume, whether you go for the all inclusive or breakfast plan. You can change up to all inclusive when you are there at any time for $252US per day per couple. We never got near this figure so breakfast plan was right for us. We never went to the a’ la carte Vyviens restaurant as we were happy with the food at the palm. All inclusive will pay a supplement to eat there.
We stayed in a deluxe beachfront and it was a good size with great views. Room very clean and serviced with efficiency by the maids. Bed was 6ft wide with 6 pillows. A sheet and a duvet. Linen changed every 2 days. Ceiling fan and air con. with fridge and tea and coffee machine all replenished daily by the maids. The good size balcony had 2 comfy chairs and 1 sun lounger plus glass topped table with sun umbrella. Not overlooked in any way. Bathroom had 2 washbasins, bath with overhead shower with big shower head.
Turn down service each night with newsletter on the next days events and weather. Flat screen TV with BBC World and USA channels. Good room service menu with $5US delivery charge.
Lots of wildlife in the gardens with humming birds, pelicans, egrets and lots of fantastic flowers. The hotel runs a shuttle each day to St John’s at $8US per person each way. Leaves at 9.30am and leaves ST John’s at 12.30pm. Personal taxi to ST. John’s is $12US plus tip each way. A taxi to see the island is for 3.5 hours tour $110US plus tip. Taxi’s are based at the hotel so you can negotiate where to go and for how long and the price.
We enjoyed our stay, our 6th in Antigua but 1st at Blue Waters, and was impressed by the good service and the well motivated staff who looked happy as they all do in Antigua. The room was excellent and we enjoyed the food. The only down part was nothing to do with the hotel but the one hour it took to get through immigration at the airport and we were one of the first off the plane. Other guests arrived few days latter had a two hour wait to clear immigration. They need to sort this out as it is getting like American immigration.
