“Nice relaxing Holiday”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 10, 2014

Spent 1 week here at the beginning of March 2014. This is a place to come and chill. Fantastic beach with good snorkelling available around reefs at one end. Staff were all very friendly and helpful. Food was adequate but not anything special compared to other all inclusives we have stayed in. Pineapple Grill was nice but portions small. We stayed in Garden Room which was basic and a little tired but adequate for our 1 week stay. Evening entertainment was a bit hit and miss. Played cricket and volleyball on the beach most days with resort staff who were always very enthusiastic to get people involved. The place is quite isolated and not near anything so you have to get taxis around.

Room Tip: Garden rooms basic but adequate

The grand pineapple has an authentic Caribbean charm that you will love and placed on one of the most beautiful beaches you will ever visit.the staff here are mostly brilliant, shout out to cara at island routes and Barbara guest services manager whom both went out of their way to help.
Loved the food at Mary's outhouse and the other restaurants were all perfectly adequate.
Loved swimming and snorkelling in the sea everyday.
Had a beachfront room which was perfectly positioned for all areas
A special holiday and I'm sat here now thinking shall I rebook ???

Have just returned from Antigua staying at Grand Pineapple.
What a delight this hotel is, beautiful setting and beach. Amazing staff that can't do enough for you. Never tired of the buffet breakfast and lunches, something for everyone, lots of choice to suit all tastes.
Pineapple Grill very good also but found the air conditioning very cold, take a sweater!
The rooms are a little tired but comfortable beds and pillows! Bathroom was adequate.
No complaints at all, loved it!

Stayed here for UK schools half-term week, 2 adults and 16yo and 11yo. We had a fantastic time. Very relaxing and the staff are wonderful – you are made to feel like one of the family.

We had two beachfront rooms, definitely the best rooms to have if you plan to spend time on the beach or in the sea. The rooms were just a couple of feet from the beautiful sandy beach, each with their own verandah overlooking the sand. The beach was clean with plenty of loungers, despite early reservations by people with their towels, there was always shade available too. The constant breeze was refreshing, but hardly ever was it strong enough to blow sand around.
The hotel has water sports equipment; snorkelling gear, Hobie Cats, Kayaks – both double and single, all available to use included in the package. There was also a daily beach volley ball game. To the right hand end of the bay there are coral reefs, worth snorkelling to see the marine life. Many fish can also be seen whilst just paddling in the waters edge without the need to even swim in the sea!

The rooms were spacious and clean. One had 2 double beds, the other one king sized bed, all very comfortable. Bathrooms were clean, but maybe in need of a bit of refurbishment. Toiletries supplied were a bar of soap and shampoo and body wash, both of which were in wall mounted dispensers. There was a coffee maker in each room, and coffee, teabags, sugar and UHT milk were replenished daily. There was ample storage space and a large TV. The air con worked very well, the room could be made quite chilly if you wanted, plus there was a ceiling fan.

We didn’t really use the swimming pools. The family one was on the chilly side. I did try the adult only one, which was Ok. But if you expect to get in and use it as a fitness pool you will be disappointed. The water is murky and the walls “jump out” at you. Swim in the sea if you want to swim.

There are 2 bars serving drinks, the aqua bar near the beach in only open 11-4 I think. The main bar opens at 10am and I don’t know when it shuts. The staff are amazing, and even when really busy they always seem to know who is next, remember orders and the wait was never too long. The cocktail menu was a challenge – I think we tried them all! There is also a soft drinks dispenser near the main bar, with coke, ginger ale, fanta and also chilled water. Sometime this would run out of cups, or the cups supplied would be tiny – take something with you. There are also honey bees very interested in the sugary drinks here, but they aren’t too much of an issue, just check there isn’t one floating in your drink!

There is a quite well stocked shop, but expect to pay. The hotel takes a swipe of your credit card at check in and purchases in the shop are then just charged to your room.

There are several places to eat. The main restaurant is the Topaz, which has spectacular views of the bay. Breakfast here every morning was wonderful. The food is very good, a large selection of cereals, pastries, fruit and salad, bread, pancakes and cooked items, including egg station with eggs cooked to order. A buffet lunch is served in the Topaz daily too. This was usually themed, eg oriental or pasta. There is soup and bread, vegetables, salad, cheese, fruit and cakes as well as the main cooked dishes. There was also the poolside snack bar, which served fries, burgers, hotdogs, nachos, pizza, popcorn and ice cream. This was open all afternoon. Again the staff here were great and the food was good. The ice cream was delicious, especially the mango flavour. Evening meals were always served in the Topaz, but on some nights there were other options too. We didn’t try them so can’t comment. A couple of nights the Topaz served buffet, but most of the time it was A la Carte. Due to my dietary requirements we had to meet the chef and discuss which options were Ok for me to have – or which options could be made suitable. There were some evenings when nothing on the menu was suitable and they were more than happy to make something special – and I have to say it was all delicious. The house wine was good, both red and white, and bar drinks could be ordered too.

We had a brilliant holiday – a week wasn’t enough. It isn’t a perfect plastic high class resort, it is friendly and full of character. We don’t usually return to places but we are hoping to get another trip in before any drastic changes to this wonderful hotel make it into some sort of plastic, perfect standardised resort.

Room Tip: beach front are a must!!!!

Winter in Canada has been brutal this year ..... It has consistently been minus 20 or below and we were leaving after shovelling another 6" of snow. The Grand Pineapple was the perfect escape! With three adult "kids" we wanted to find a place that had the right balance of beach, activities, quality and choice of food and we wanted the weather to be consistently hot! We found that and more. The location is fabulous with a cove that is quite private. We never had to stress over getting a spot on the beach or arranging a tour or transportation ... The folks at Grand Pineapple made it so easy! I have to shout out a big thanks to a few of the individuals who made our stay memorable... Rasheed took us on our first tour of the facilities and was instrumental in getting us oriented quickly. He told us about the Outhouse where we took advantage of Mary's BBQ and chilled with a cold beer. He also took us on a hike to Devil's Bridge a historic and breathtaking location a half hour walk away. We also were pleased with Cara's help arranging a land and sea kayak tour for us that had the right balance of exploring, snorkelling and touring for us. I have to say too that small things like Dawnella's help with our unique wifi connection was much appreciated ... She may become a technician yet but her patience and customer service was outstanding.

This was our first time in Antigua and though it is a small island we felt secure and welcomed. One of the recommended trips was to Shirley's Heights. We went to the Sunday night party and enjoyed the music, the beautiful sunset and while we each had different meals I particularly enjoyed the lobster. We'll worth it! Needless to say we are still enjoying the memories and the afterglow!

Room Tip: All of the ocean view rooms are great. We were away from the beach but the walk is very short and pr...

This trip to Antigua was beyond our expectations. It was a 10 out of 10 vacation. Made possible with the help from Mr. Ferry and Sanjay who went out of their way to ensure we had a great time.

On check in Ondre made us feel at home. Nyles took us to our great room. This room was fantastic with great view (from the second floor) of the ocean and the beaches. The beach was the best we have been on. The white sand never gets hot. The hardness of the sand made it great to walk on. The water was clear clear. We did not need any water shoes here. I snorkelled by the reef and saw lots of fish. This was nice to do at the resort, no boat trip required. The room and bathroom was nice and clean. We also had a tub we wanted.

The staffs were so good and friendly. I knew most by name and they did a fantastic job on the grounds the rooms, the restraunts, pools bars and beaches. The bartenders like Ali, Emilio, Kylon, and Regino did a great job, I know I missed many names but ALL ARE GREAT.

The Managers led from the front. They picked up dishes, made drinks, welcomed guests, said hi, shook hands, unbelievable. Our bosses could learn lots here. These guys are the best, Dale, Kevin and Alex. I cannot say enough about them.

The food was great. We loved the Grill; the hamburgers beat all the resorts I have ever been in. No kidding, Great Burgers. The cooks I met here I liked a lot, George and Sherry Ann served quickly with a smile. The same with the ribs and chicken at Mary’s Outhouse on the resort, I have not had anything this good before and Mary meets people with a hug. They don't do that at McDonalds.

The entertainment and background music was what I liked, reggae, ska, calypso, Caribbean, and steel drum music. Maria as entertainment management was on top of things. I liked most of the entertainment.

We went on a tour around the island with a fantastic company, called Antigua VIP Tours. I would recommend this guy, Sean Weathered and his sister Kashesha.. He took us to from the airport to our resort and his sister took us on a 5 hour island tour. We saw all the sights. They did everything we wanted. I would recommend them highly.

Would I go back? If things (rooms, staff, and food) stayed the same, no question I would book now. The problem is they are changing from Sandals (mostly couples) to Beaches (mostly kids). The construction and then the kids might be a bit much. We will see in the future.

Room Tip: Second Floor on the beach was good..

Coming back to Earth after a lovely week at the Grand Pineapple isn’t easy! Our family had a wonderfully relaxing week here....

Many thanks to our Caribbean “family” at the Pineapple. Kudos to Franklin & Monique, who took excellent care of us and our beverage requests, Joan, our housekeeper, kept our room sparkling. In Topaz, ever-smiling Delanie, sweet Elise, Joyette, Delta and always cheery Arleen gave exceptional service. Great to see Dennis, from Maintenance again. Jules, you did a terrific job with our beach photos. Our thanks also to the rest of the wonderful staff.

Pros: The staff is fantastic! One of the nicest beaches on Antigua with lovely accommodations and surroundings. The cabanas on the beach were great fun. Food & drink aplenty.

Sanjay, Barbara, Dale, Kevin and Alvin, thank you for all the special things you did for our family during our stay!

Cons: 1: Our plane was late so we just missed dinner. At check –in Whitney said she would notify the kitchen so we could grab a bite to eat, but when we arrived the wait staff told us the kitchen was closed. 2: I was also disappointed by the lack of dress code enforcement…women in swim suits at breakfast and several women very inappropriately “dressed”, in too short jean cutoffs at dinner…
3: The Topaz and Chef Pietros menus were somewhat limited, compared to our last visits, but still plenty to eat! Service in the Pineapple Grill was very slow the evening we dined there.

Soon there will be renovations to change the Pineapple into a Beaches…We love it just the way it is….so if Sandals has some other projects to work on first, that would be just fine! We will be back again!

Room Tip: The tropical waterfront are superb! Look for the mongoose.
