“December 2012”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 16, 2013

We had a lovely holiday here in December 12. Loved the feel of the place which was very relaxed with a mixture of ages but mostly adults. The bar was always very friendly and civilised with no huge queues. They even had Pimms!
Our beachfront room was lovely in that we could hear the sea all night and could step right off our veranda onto the beach. However, there is only one window, also just by the beach, so you have a choice of no natural light or being in full view of everyone. Some blinds or thin curtains would make a huge difference as the room was quite dingy. The tropical waterfront rooms looked much more private as you could open the curtains without being overlooked.
Buffet food was good but only available every other night or so. On other nights the main restaurant was a la carte which was very repetitive and the one vegetarian option was unappealing. We tried the Italian section one night which was comically bad. The beach buffet, which was on one night while we were there, was lovely.
It's a manageable walk to Devil's Bridge which we did a couple of times. There was nothing else within walking distance. We did a day trip touring around the island with Ronnie on the beach and booked a taxi into St Johns another day. There really isn't much to do or see in St Johns so a couple of hours would have sufficed.
The cats up at Marys Outhouse were adorable and we went up to see them several times. Don't be scared off by the terrifying looking black and white bruiser who's covered in scars - he's a softy and loves attention.
The library is really handy to pick up and leave books. It saved me lots of suitcase space. All of the staff were friendly and helpful. A few people we spoke to had worked there for years which is always a good sign. We also met some lovely fellow guests which whom we did both trips

Wife (morag) and I spent two relaxing weeks at this resort . We had booked a garden view room and had read some negative reviews about these rooms so were prepared to upgrade upon arrival to a beachfront room .When we seen the room they put us in it was the nearest garden view room to the beach (room 127) ,there was no need to upgrade. Falling asleep and waking up to the sound of the waves was all the upgrade we needed.Best things about this place are the staff and the beach. The staff are so nice always taking the time to stop and chat asking if your holiday was going ok, (special mention to Ocean great bartender). The beach is awesome pinky white sand and very safe .So if your thinking of going here don't hesitate and if your going anytime soon have fun.

We stayed at this hotel during the second week in May 13, when we arrived through the villages and got to the hotel driveway we realised that there was also another popular 4 * hotel adjacent which was comforting as it showed that there was plenty of tourism in the area. Anyway, the first impression was that the complex had very colourful buildings and the gardens were beautiful. The greeting at reception was lovely we were given a glass of ice cold rum punch delicious after a long journey.

We were put in a garden/sea view room, I have to say it was horrendous it was like a toilet we did not unpack our suitcases or touch anything, we had to have an upgrade. On the flip side of the coin, the room that we were upgraded to was heavenly with a stunning breath taking full sea view. The room was spacious, clean, there was refreshment facilities a beautiful balcony, gorgeous furniture, you felt like you was at home. It was a bright and airy room and we were high up in room 900's so you could literally see everything and admire the full complex. Being in this room was like being on a film set (special). A tip for management a fridge in the room is needed stocked with refreshments, also the shop needs to be a shop selling more than just gifts. Night life entertainment was flat but we weren't bothered.

Mary's bar was quirky serving chicken ribs salad beer and much more, open afternoons only, my husbands favourite place. A wood built shack where everyone from around the world leaves a worded memento of their visit nailed or tied to the shack, old flip flops with messages or old pieces of driftwood, you can spend hours reading messages from last weeks visitors or visitors from years ago, some famous ones too. The food is alfresco and hearty the welcome is friendly and laid back, it is a steep climb to the shack but an ice cold beer from the cool box a great meal and a fantastic view makes you feel like staying all day to chat with the others that stumble up the hill to discover this unique extra bit to the complex, look around while your eating to spot the mongooses running around in the undergrowth too fascinating to watch.

The burger bar is definitely a place to visit, the burgers pack a punch and gives burger king a run for their money. We had to restrain ourselves from over indulgence otherwise we would have come back as a couple of blimps. Loved it! quick service, fries and hot dogs also available cheesy nachos. People craved the burgers open afternoons and sometimes after the bar shuts at night.

To reverse the effects of the burger bar, seek out the hotels excellent air conditioned small gym, hard to find, behind reception area and up the hill, but worth the morning work out. Sunbathing and swimming around the pool is perfect. Clean and hot, sun loungers always available and the hotel supplies fresh clean fluffy towels daily.

Security staff immaculately smart and polite and patrolled all day and night making us all feel safe.

The sunsets were amazing! All the staff and the restaurants at the complex were great with exceptional varieties of food. Staff member Delanie deserves a pat on the back for being so attentive.

The weather sand and sea - tremendous. The visit to St Johns is average - you won't be missing anything if you don't go. Beware to check bank holidays yourself do not rely on hotel staff to inform you. As one day we booked a taxi in reception to go shopping in St Johns, the taxi took neither the hotel staff or taxi firm informed us that St Johns would be like a ghost town as it was their bank holiday and all shops would be shut because all of the locals were sunning it up in our hotel for the day lol. We therefore had a disappointing round trip back to the hotel which cost us $52.00 or £27.00 so be careful.

If you want to buy anything please compare prices because you are locked into the complex the beach vendors costs can be higher than the high street!

Overall a good resort.

My friend and I returned home 27th May after having a lovely 12 day holiday everything was just great starting with being greeted by friendly staff we found all the staff friendly and helpful. Our room was five minutes from the beach with a great view it had recently been decorated. There was plenty of food nicely presented and there was entertainment in the evenings and a good choice of drinks! what more could you ask for!

We had visited Antigua 16 years ago and always wanted to return our previous hotel is no longer trading but we had visited Pinapples' beach and knew how lovely it was, we would definitely recommend the hotel.

Visited before it became a Sandals resort and found the resort charming and comfortable. Food and drinks were great, evening entertainment ok but more than made up for by the company of fellow guests. This was 10 years ago boy I'm sure due to the resort's location and the fantastic staff it will still be a trip to remember. Have you ever known a resort where one of the staff climbed a Palm tree to knock of the coconuts in case they fell on us ! Kind of says it all. Only downside was the catamaran trip to Barbuda, sea was choppy and most people were ill,but small hiccup on otherwise fab trip

Room Tip: Beach facing ground floor cabin or overlooking the wedding garden, both lovely

I had to set up an account to talk about this place!

This was our first visit to Antigua and we will most definitely be returning! We stayed in an ocean view room which overlooked the most beautiful beach we had ever seen. The hotel is clean and the grounds are immaculate. Although our room was slightly dated it was exactly what we were expecting from a Caribbean Island getaway.

The hotel is all inclusive and the restaurant was good. Breakfast same each day but there was still plenty of variety, there were two options for lunch - the buffet or Mary's Outhouse on top of the hill where you could get BBQ chicken and ribs (and a hug from Mary!). There was a different theme for dinner each evening - sometimes buffet or a la carte in two different venues. Some people on here have complained about birds at breakfast - yes there were lots of birds but they did not bother us in the slightest, we were having breakfast overlooking the caribbean sea!

I cannot stress how amazing the staff were at the hotel, from the waitresses to the bar men to the cleaners to the groundskeepers. Everyone was so friendly and happy to talk and they all had a hilarious sense of humour!

Overall this was truly a trip of a lifetime for more reasons than one and the hotel was definitely a contributing factor, we wanted a relaxing holiday with a beautiful beach, a nice clean hotel and a gorgeous island to explore - we got it all and more!

Things to do when in Antigua
- Snorkel on Long Bay (Grand Pineapple's beach)
- Stingray City
- Taxi tour to St John's
- Book an island helicopter tour
- Go to shirley heights on Sunday evening
- Catamaran island cruise
- Kitesurf on Green Island

Finally - Bring mosquito spray!! The hotel does it's best by fogging most nights but due to the tropical climate they are everywhere!

On arrival to pineapple beach we were greeted by friendly staff, shown to our room which was a beach front room, this was a perfect choice as the beach was about 5 steps away and the views outstanding. The room it's self could do with a bit of updating however all we needed was a room to sleep and shower so it was adequate. We found that all staff were customer focused and nothing was too much trouble. I did aquasize which was great fun with Devon & Kerry and my husband played a lot of table tennis with jules & sasha the photographers In between their photo shoots. The food was what you would expect at an all inclusive, lots of salads, meats and fish with deserts of cakes and pastries in the buffet restaurant. The pineapple grill was a nice restaurant with good food but the lighting is very dim, I did think that could be improved. The evening entertainment was ok, it usually finished before 11pm and there was disco a couple of nights a week in the pineapple grill from 11pm that was fun even though not many people go. Overall we had a memorable holiday in Antigua and grand pineapple beach was a good choice of hotel. The people there that helped make our holiday were Loreen at breakfast she was chatty and knowledgeable of the island when we asked questions, ocean the barman he was funny and helpful and Barbara in guest services who goes above and beyond always
