My wife and myself stayed at the Coconut Beach Club in October last year, and thought the place was brilliant. If you're looking for a quiet place to relax and do very little, at the best price in Antigua, this is the hotel for you.

The deluxe room we requested on the 3rd floor was massive and very clean, and had a kitchen, lounge, bedroom and bathroom, 2 air conditioning units and 2 balconies, including an amazing hammock, as previous reviewers have mentioned. Gently swinging on the hammock reading a book was a great way to relax. There are no tv's in the rooms, so beware if this is unbearable for you, though the tv would usually be on in the bar so you could still catch up on the news (and the football scores). The lady who cleaned the room did an excellent job, and was very friendly, and would also entertain you with her singing, free of charge!

You always got a friendly welcome at the bar, and were encouraged to get drunk at all times! The food provided was excellent. A great choice of hot and cold breakfasts, fruit, cereal, toast etc. We often had so much for breakfast we didn't need lunch! In the evening the meals are a la carte (expect Saturdays when it's a BBQ, and Tuesdays when it's a buffet after the managers cocktail party by the pool) and are first class. I can be a fussy eater but there was always something on the menu that I could eat, and it was always of an excellent standard, as were the waiting staff. Neil was always there with a warm welcome to show you to your table. A point to note though, you need to book the time you want to eat in the big book at the reception in the morning, this is so everyone doesn't arrive at the same time.

The hotel is right on the beach, literally a few yards away, and it's a nice size, and is generally only used by the hotel guests. The bar staff would occasionally patrol the beach with drinks to save you from getting up to go to the bar! Just another great bonus.

We went to Antigua to get married and the hotel offered a package to take us through the whole process effortlessly. One of the managers, Nolda, along with her assistant Bonnie, took us to the relevant registry office and high court to get our documents sorted before the wedding, and made sure everything went smoothly on the day. She also helped us out after the wedding, picking up our certified wedding certificate from the High court on her way to work, and making sure our wedding photographs arrived on time. We are very grateful to Nolda and Bonnie (who also was one of our witnesses!) and also my best man on the day Selwyn, who would always stop for a chat when he saw us (and to climb a tree and cut us down a coconut!) and he even made us a wedding gift!! I've never experienced such kind hotel staff, and they made our stay in Antigua, and our wedding, completely memorable.

I stayed here in aug 05 and absolultley loved it!

check in was very efficient and quick and the staff were so friendly we upgraded the room and it was fantastic beautiful beach views from the balcony, clean, comfortable room which had alot of space, nice clean bathroom, dining table and kitchen area. The hammock on the balcony was a great touch and was fantastic to lie on in the warm eveing and read!

the pool area was great - nice and quite, good sunbeds and the bar opposite! beach again was lovley and secluded.

food was fantastic - lovley breakfast, sausages, bacon, eggs, muffins, pastries, fruit - just about everything!
lunch was usualy buffett salad and different fish and meat
Dinner - this really was absolutly brilliant!! ala carte food at its best!! really didnt xpect it to be as good as it was!

drinks again were great - good choice - loved the mango crush!!! lots of cocktails and the barmen were great!

staff were very friendly and happy to help - the only thing we had an issue with all holiday was one of the lunch staff making the most disgusting snorting noise as we ate!!

i would go back here without a doubt - if its relaxation u r looking for this is the place!!

  • Liked — food and the pool!

my husband and i have just spent four weeks in this hotel and was dissapointed with the cleanliness of the rooms and the basic furnishings of the rooms. the hotel needs bringing up to a higher standard and the maids need better training of cleaning and replenishing of towels which was in short supply and occasionally you had to ring the reception for them as none was left in your room as with the loo rolls etc etc. the bar area and seating is far too small although drinks are well stocked. the food was ok but sometimes could have been better at breakfast you have too ask for bread which ideally you should be able too get your own not have to wait for them to bring it to you which depending on the amount of people was in was either quickly or to long the beach is lovely as are the people the management was very lacking having been to four managers cocktails party we only so one resort manager at other times it was left to the restauraunt manager. the pool is a very big dissapointent as its very small there are no t vs in the rooms but there is one in the bar area which went missing the second week of our holiday and no one knew where it had gone so if you are planning on going here you need to take some cards or games as there are none in the resort in short the hotel needs to spend more money on upgrading the hotel to a hihgher standard and the management need to spend more time amongst the guest to find out there comments and queries

Having stayed at the Coconut Beach Club in November 2005 and loved every minute , we hoped nothing had changed on our return in 2006 - and we were not disappointed. This is a lovely sea front hotel located on a secluded beach. There is very little to do except sunbathe, swim, eat, drink and sleep - a perfect holiday in my eyes! We loved the food - fruits and a fry up for breakfast, a salad bar and hot buffet for lunch and then an a la carte menu in the evening with food freshly cooked upon ordering. We loved propping up the bar in the evening and talking to other residents, while Zouda and David whipped up the cocktails. We should also mention Sheddy, Tajer, Sleepy, Neil and the girls who all work hard during the day and evening.
I can understand that this hotel will not be to everyone's taste however as far as I am concerned, this will serve to keep the prices affordable!

Travelled with friends in November to Antigua for the first time. This is a 3* budget hotel which was keenly priced in comparison to others in the vicinity.

Hotel location is very pretty, well kept gardens and small clean beach - good beach also a twenty minute walk at next hotel - much more sheltered if windy conditions at Coconut Beach.

Three storey accommodatons, mostly sea facing - rooms basic but clean - no tv in room though there is a tv in the bar area if weather stops play.

Rooms cleaned daily to a decent standard - towels seem to be in short supply - cleaners in during morning and towels removed and not returned until late afternoon - presume they are laundering and simply do not have enough.

Small fridge in room to store water ($2 at reception) It isn't stocked but booze is readily available in shops if you want to stock it yourself.

Coffee maker in room with tea, coffee, sugar and milk replenished daily.

Safe available in room - foc - works on keycode system.

Beach towels available - again seems there are not enough to go around - part of problem here being they do not have "towel card" system so some people don't care about returns etc.

Don't believe the stories about rats in the hotel grounds - they are mongoose ! In dim light without your glasses you could be forgiven for thinking you'd seen a large rat but in daylight there is no mistaking what they are !

There are lots of tiny birds around - they do not bother anyone but take a packet of sweetener from the coffee area and throw it on the floor when you've seen one - they'll whip it as quick as you like !

Take plenty of mosquito repellent and watch out for sand flies and ants around the beach and pool - everyone received lots of bites - they are worse after dusk but are about all day - the ant bites are murder !!

Bar is good - all usual drinks available - the area is actually too small for the size of the hotel so seats are in short supply but you can spill into the restaurant areas if need be - bar staff "Zaud" is great and keeps you entertained with her bubbly personality and wicked cocktails.

Buffet Restaurant is badly managed. Food trays are rarely labelled which keeps it fun on occasions. Food isn't bad at breakfast and lunch but trays are not filled quickly enough - if you intend to eat towards the cut-off time you will get used to food having "run out" Service will depend on who is working - varies from very good to poor. On occasions not enough seating so don't be surprised if you have to go for a drink at the bar till tables are free.

A la carte meals in the evening are of a good standard - but again managment isn't the best. Bookings required but tables still often not ready when you turn up and again several times the menu was not fully available - eg sweet available when you go in has "run out" when you ask for it. If you do not like the menu ask for an alternative - they'll run up omelettes with fries etc but only if you request it - it isn't offered.

Bar-b-q nights - same problem as buffet restaurant - food "runs out" and replacement not available.

It seems they are trying to keep waste to such a minimum that they have taken it just a tad too far - several people complained to the manager and on rep surveys - if they listen it won't take much to put this right !

If you have any concerns with repairs or maintenance - bring it to the attention of the reception staff - we found that this was dealt with quickly - examples being we had a faulty loo and friends had a problem with hot water - both sorted out within the hour.

Entertainment poor at best - cocktail evening, steel drummers and a duo singing and telling jokes were the three nights of entertainment on offer - repeated in your second week - once would have sufficed - be prepared to make your own entertainment.

Trips of all descriptions available from hotel or through travel reps at affordable prices - be aware transport to pick up points not always included and taxis are fairly costly - sharing with another couple keeps it sensible.

Overall for the price this is a decent little hotel - if they sort out the minor management issues it will be a great budget option in Antigua - we had a good holiday and with the reservations mentioned would still recommend it.
