We went to the coconut beach club at the beginning of June. We didn't know what to expect as it was our first carribbean holiday and i can't explain how lovely it was! We got married there on the beach four days after arriving, the staff and wedding co-ordinator were absolutley brilliant. They asked what we wanted for the wedding and they got it! The bar and restaurant staff are all really friendly and helpful. The food at the restaurant was all faboulus and so indeed was the breakfasts. The beach was literally 10ft from our room which was wonderful to look at first thing in the morning! There are activities to do ie snorkeling or you can laze around the pool, or in the bar if you find it too hot!
The rooms are spacious especially the deluxe suites. They have everything you need in them and plenty of storage.
St Johns is also excellent for shopping, there are designer shops and a market. Plenty of places to wonder and relax.
If you are wanting a quiet relaxing holiday, then the coconut beach club is ideal, we are definately going back and we can't wait!

My husband and I just returned from our second honeymoon at Coconut Beach. We stayed there 10 years ago under a different name but pretty much the same hotel. We had a great time and will be back again.
The room was nice- not luxurious- but nice. The bed was a little bit too soft but we got used to it. Our bathroom was fine, clean, and clean towels daily. Only the floormat was kind of gray but it was on the floor, who cares?
We did the all inclusive option and it was well worth it. Breakfast was lovely each morning with an omlette chef ready to prepare whatever you'd like. Lunch was another very nice buffet with plenty of choices. Dinner was a varied menu each night with 3 main course choices and 2 options for $18 if you didn't like what they had. One night I opted for the $18 filet mignon and it was very good.
On our last trip to Antigua we did the Catamaran cruise and loved it but decided to try something else this time- the Jungle Safari. What a great time!!! We took an offroad safari all over the island and then went to Stingray City. We then took a boat out to the stingrays and swam with them. That was pretty cool. Then took the safari back. We had a great driver and had a blast with the other tours.
Snorkeling right off the beach was great. There are a couple of reefs to look at.
We happened to be there during World Cup Soccer and were pretty much the only Americans. Not much interest in that in the states! Everyone else was in the lounge around the TV!!
Tip- if you need noise to sleep, bring your own DVD player and some movies. Bar closes at 11pm and there's not much else to do after that.
Casino up the street at the Royal Antiguan is all slots but still fun.
We will definitely go back in a few years.

We arrived at this hotel late May and had 2 weeks of wonderful peace and quiet. The staff are friendly and helpful, even bringing a selection of cold drinks up the beach about 11am, perfect timing and a nice touch complementing the already excellent service we received during our stay. The accomodation was clean and well maintained, rooms cleaned every day and fresh towels provided. Gardens are well maintained, we found some nice shade under the trees for ourselves when it got a little hot, and it did get hot, plenty of sun cream needed, and mosquitos will love you so better to go prepared. A few weddings took place at the hotel on the beach and everyone seemed happy with their arrangements, it was nice watching too. Food was excellent, plenty of choice, served beautifully and promptly and with a smile and a half. I ate everything even though some nights l said to myself perhaps l won't eat quite so many courses tonight, l found l simply couldn't resist. Drinks came often and the house wines and local beer were good. I have only good things to say about the hotel and staff and l highly recommend it.
Trips out included Horse riding on a couple of beaches for an hour, very good service, pick up from hotel to horses for a full hours ride. You don't need to know how to ride these horses, they know the route so excellent for the novice as well as the competent rider. Wadadli Cats for a trip around the island is a must, they pick you up from the beach, good places to snorkel great bbq lovely day out. Walk round the area took about an hour and a half with the local "Medicine Man" just two of us went this day so even better. Jeep Safari trip out too was good went all over the island and Cayaked to a secluded beach for eats before going home via the same route. All trips were great especially the trip with Eco tours, Catamaran round the island sailing the Atlantic waves great fun, saw lots of the flying fish which were served at the hotel and tortoise which were not, good entertainment on board and the crew were fun to be with. All in all best holiday ever.

Coconut Beach Club is supposedly rated a three-star hotel, but it actually is a high 1 or low 2 star, based on my experience at the hotel. Below is a breakdown:

Bathroom: dingy. The first room we stayed at had an awful odor - urine-scented is not at all appealing!

Towels: the front desk claimed the towels were two weeks old as of 5/26/2006, but how could two week old towels be gray, and have holes in them?

Sheets: had a weird smell

Balcony: all balconies are ocean-front and most have a hammock

Dining: this hotel offers a European plan and an all-inclusive plan. DO NOT opt for the all-inclusive plan. The food was awful:

Breakfast is $12 per person: selection was not great—bacon, eggs, fruits (with flies swarming over it), sour juice, and Folgers coffee. You might as well drive elsewhere and get a better breakfast for a cheaper price.

Lunch: didn't even bother to dine

Dinner: $40 per person—a la carte menu. Bad selection of food. The bland food was presented in such a way that it seemed like they were "trying too hard."

Drinks at the bar: they use the cheapest alcohol so you're bound to get a headache after your first sip.

House Wine : awful

Staff: Rude

Renovations: the site says they renovated the hotel in 2004, but the staff said that they only renovated the third floor rooms.

Overall, I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. Fortunately my boyfriend and I were out and about during our entire stay so the only time we stayed in our room was when it was bedtime. If you had to stay in this hotel—avoid 202B

This was my first trip to Antigua, my partner has been several times. This hotel is excellant. All the staff are very friendly and the service given is second to none. If you want a small hotel, on a lovely quiet beach, this is the place to go to. Fantastic value for money, good food and who could ask for more than a room right on the beach.

Its so good we have booked to go for Christmas!
