My wife and I travelled to CBC on the 20th June for 14 days. We had a brilliant time and made some fantastic friends and that is the one of best thing about this hotel, everyone talks to everyone. Please remember this is only my opinion of the hotel and everyone has their own points of view, so please read on.
Antigua had been sold to us as the jewel of the Caribbean, and we found the Island to be very beautiful. However, this laid back Caribbean hotel was just a little too laid back for our liking; in fact some of the Staff was just LAZY. We have been to several Caribbean Islands and we are familiar to laid back, so that is what we expected but even we were shocked.
The Hotel itself was quite nice and the rooms are basic but very clean, but when you go 3 stars in the Caribbean you should expect basic / no frills and seasoned travellers would know this.
On arrival at the hotel we were not greeted as we had been on other holidays, and we had to carry our own cases up 3 flights of stairs, hay ho never mind!!
Supper on our first evening was BBQ so no need to dress up, and after a quick bit and a drink it was off to bed as we were both shattered.
Sunday morning - we rose early for breakfast 0730 as the Boucher stated but low and behold it didn’t start until after 8am. Every morning even though the staff were sat there talking. This being said breakfast was always nice and plenty of choice too.
Lunch - these were a bit hit and miss with a meat or pasta dishes every day and always Salad available.
Afternoon Tea - Very hit and miss (just imagine 8 slices of bread with cheese slices, wafer thin ham or paste filling cut into 8 triangles with no crusts) for 40 guests, also homemade cookies x 20, if they are not there by 4pm just shout "COTTON COOKIES" and they will eventually arrive.
Dinner - this is best meal of the day. Four courses of Al la Carte dining and most of the choices are delicious and we never had any complaints and the evening staff was always perfectly attentive, prompt and polite. You can ask for fries if you want them
After the meal make your way to the bar and Jahilda, Clifton or Cotton will make you whatever you want. Try the Banana Chocolate Milk shake they are very Moorish, and the Sex off the beach lovely.
Mosquito’s - these are at their worst at night and there are thousands. We took a liquid plug in which worked very well in the room but the bar staff will also let you have a Citronella bucket Candle for your balcony or porch. But if you use plenty of repellent then this will work fine.
The Beach – this is ¼ of a mile of lovely sand and the water is cooling, however, when we went in June there was a lot of jelly fish passing by and if it wasn’t for the Portuguese gentleman then there would have been more of them being washed up. Apparently June July and Aug are the months when these jelly fish are at their worst.
Overall – this holiday was very enjoyable but we think this was only due to the friends we made during our stay. This hotel could be a 4 Star resort if it was tidied up a little and the breakfast/lunch and reception staff dropped their lazy attitude.
Our thanks to John and Paula, Al and Liz, Gerry and Russ, Paul and Hillary who made our holiday for us.
