My wife and I travelled to CBC on the 20th June for 14 days. We had a brilliant time and made some fantastic friends and that is the one of best thing about this hotel, everyone talks to everyone. Please remember this is only my opinion of the hotel and everyone has their own points of view, so please read on.
Antigua had been sold to us as the jewel of the Caribbean, and we found the Island to be very beautiful. However, this laid back Caribbean hotel was just a little too laid back for our liking; in fact some of the Staff was just LAZY. We have been to several Caribbean Islands and we are familiar to laid back, so that is what we expected but even we were shocked.
The Hotel itself was quite nice and the rooms are basic but very clean, but when you go 3 stars in the Caribbean you should expect basic / no frills and seasoned travellers would know this.
On arrival at the hotel we were not greeted as we had been on other holidays, and we had to carry our own cases up 3 flights of stairs, hay ho never mind!!
Supper on our first evening was BBQ so no need to dress up, and after a quick bit and a drink it was off to bed as we were both shattered.
Sunday morning - we rose early for breakfast 0730 as the Boucher stated but low and behold it didn’t start until after 8am. Every morning even though the staff were sat there talking. This being said breakfast was always nice and plenty of choice too.
Lunch - these were a bit hit and miss with a meat or pasta dishes every day and always Salad available.
Afternoon Tea - Very hit and miss (just imagine 8 slices of bread with cheese slices, wafer thin ham or paste filling cut into 8 triangles with no crusts) for 40 guests, also homemade cookies x 20, if they are not there by 4pm just shout "COTTON COOKIES" and they will eventually arrive.
Dinner - this is best meal of the day. Four courses of Al la Carte dining and most of the choices are delicious and we never had any complaints and the evening staff was always perfectly attentive, prompt and polite. You can ask for fries if you want them
After the meal make your way to the bar and Jahilda, Clifton or Cotton will make you whatever you want. Try the Banana Chocolate Milk shake they are very Moorish, and the Sex off the beach lovely.
Mosquito’s - these are at their worst at night and there are thousands. We took a liquid plug in which worked very well in the room but the bar staff will also let you have a Citronella bucket Candle for your balcony or porch. But if you use plenty of repellent then this will work fine.
The Beach – this is ¼ of a mile of lovely sand and the water is cooling, however, when we went in June there was a lot of jelly fish passing by and if it wasn’t for the Portuguese gentleman then there would have been more of them being washed up. Apparently June July and Aug are the months when these jelly fish are at their worst.

Overall – this holiday was very enjoyable but we think this was only due to the friends we made during our stay. This hotel could be a 4 Star resort if it was tidied up a little and the breakfast/lunch and reception staff dropped their lazy attitude.
Our thanks to John and Paula, Al and Liz, Gerry and Russ, Paul and Hillary who made our holiday for us.

I visitied this hotel purely to relax and chill out.
I checked trip advisor to see other peoples views on this hotel, and boy were they wrong.
The quality of the food is terrible. It was constantly over cooked, cold or just inedible. We requested wine from the wine list only to be told there was no wine available, only the house wine. The nearest town is St Johns which is a 10 minute taxi ride at the cost of $40 return journey, so not only had we paid for our meals on an all inclisive basis, but we were spending extra for taxis and meals.
There were no snacks available during the day, afternoon tea was some cake left on the bar. Breakfast was fine, you can't go wrong with eggs & bacon! Lunch was passable.
The main reason I picked this hotel was because of the good food reputation.
We were not surpised to discover that the chef was not trained.

Entertainment is non existant. The managers cocktail party was cancelled at short notice. Maybe he was too afraid to face his angry residents.

The rooms were very basic, no atmosphere. The air conditioning units were very noisy, and if you switched it off you could still hear the unit in the next room.

The staff at the hotel are the best. Friendly, helpful and attentive.

The age group for this hotel is definitley over 55, although there were 8 of us who didn't fall into that catergory.
Be sure to bring your insect repellant as there are thousands of mosquitos, and I mean THOUSANDS. We used plug ins in our room, insect repellant and a great clicker deice for bites which I purchased from Boots.

Although my comments are not good, we decided to make the best of things and made some really good friends and had a really good time.

The Commisioners Grill and The Big Banana in St Johns are really good places to eat, and also The Big Banana in Dickensons Bay.

Coconut Beach Club is on a beautiful beach with plenty of space for all residents and a place to go to for total relaxation.

I will visit this hotel again if the food has improved.

We have returned from the Coconut Beach club last week after a 10 day honeymoon there, and can honestly say we couldnt fault the place. On arrival we were shown to the bar, to be served with lovely rum punch unitl the manger showed us to our rooms, where our bags were already waiting for us. We had a Duluxe Suite, which was spacious, clean and stocked with a good "mini" bar, although mini was not the word! Full size bottle of vodka, bottle of champaign, several beers and a bottle of rum. Our room opened up onto two patio's, one with a hamock, and the other with two charis. The beach we within a 2 second walk of the patio. And it was beautiful! Soft white sand, calm blue sea, and pretty much empty the whole time.
The food during our stay was fantastic, and the service was exceptional. Sometimes things would be a bit slow, but hey, your in the Caribbean! CHILL! The evening meals were exceptional, with a good selection from a different menu every day. Made a change from the usual buffet style food most all inclusive's offer.
We did two trips while we were there, the 4x4 trip off roading round the island, which was brilliant and i would recommend to anyone who goes there. We also did the boat trip round the whole island, which too was fantastic.
All in all we had a fantastic stay, and met some fab people, and i would go back in the blink of an eye.

Just returned from a two week stay at the Coconut Beach Club, travelling with my husband and my parents.
On arrival we were welcomed by a friendly receptionist and on being given our keys were shown to each of our rooms(Junior Suites).I had requested via email that out rooms were next to each other however they were at opposite ends of the hotel complex. We took our own bags to our rooms but as ladies we were helped by a member of staff to carry bags to our second floor rooms.
Rooms clean but in need of updating especially the bathroom.Air con did not work for first few days and had to request it to be fixed on two occasions.
Junior suites were previoulsy self catering units and had a kitchen are with appliances which if removed would make a large dressing/wardrobe area which we found was slightly poor.
Food served we found breakfast good, lunch good, dinner good ( my father found a bit limited as he doesnt eat fish or pasta).
Unfortunatley the service at dinner was up and down-Some nights we had good service, some nights we had terrible service!.We felt compelled to make a complaint via reception to make this point which is something we have never had to do before and is not what you want to be doing on your holidays.
We as a group of four were given the same table on the decked area near the pool as the restaurant only seemed to cater for tables of two, and were constantly overlooked by staff .My husband even had to go to the bar to get me some water on occasions however other tables glasses were filled without a problem. On another occasion , again seated outsdie the main restaurant we were each served a glass on wine with dinner but when the bottle ran out just a being poured into my husbands glass, the waitress just chose not to bother returning to complete the filling of his glass. This we found inexcusable as every guest had paid an all inclusive cost and we were being treated poorly in comparison. We were not the only party to make a complaint regarding the service and there were also complaints regarding the food from other parties during our stay. The evening following our complaint however we had two tables together inside the restaurant and the service was great! However on our last night we were sat on the outside table once again and had awful service but just could not be bothered to say anything else as we were leaving the next day.
Overall most of the staff were nice, we had a good holiday which was mainy due to the fantastic weather and lovely island of Antigua. We have travelled to many carribean islands over the last few years and really loved this one.We would definatley return to Antigua but not to this hotel which is a shame as it is in a lovely spot and with a little tweaking could be a great hotel.
