We "discovered" Catamaran in February 2006 and had a great time, came back in February 07 and we had an even better time. Dynah, Ron, Robert and everyone working there is simply wonderful. The hotel deserves to be known and appreciated. There is a small beach, it is quiet, a restaurant is a few minutes walk away and they are planning to open one on site too. Our 2 little girls had a brilliant time, and we could relax. The self catering is OK, nothing fancy but functional. The rooms are spotless, everyone works really hard to keep the whole place very tidy. I could go on and on, it is very rare to go somewhere and feel you can chill out completely, Catamaran does just that. A local supermarket (Baileys) is only 5 minutes walk up the road, and if you hired a car you will be fine. Nelson's dockyard is only accross the bay, and Robert will happily give you a ride on the hotel little boat if you need.
Perfect, can't wait to be back in 2008!

I stayed here waaay back in April-May of 2004, but I'm hoping to be back again in 2007, and I hear that they now have a pool! My friend and I stayed at the Cat Club while we raced in Antigua Sailing Week and it was perfect for our needs, and not terribly expensive, considering what some others were paying that week. You can walk to the village in Falmouth Harbour (and beyond to Nelson's Dockyard) or you can take a water taxi from the dock over to the Antigua Yacht Club area. Taxis are also easy to get and not expensive.

The staff is friendly and pleasant and the rooms are spacious, airy and clean. We had a fabulous balcony overlooking the ocean which was cool and shady all day. Our room had a fan, a double bed, a single bed and a small kitchenette as well as a good-sized bathroom (always had hot water and decent pressure) - perfect for 2 single women! There are various room configurations. There is a restaurant in the marina area next door (where many of the big sailboats were docked) that serves breakfast, lunch and drinks, but the service there is SO TERRIBLE (even by Caribbean standards) - be prepared to wait forever and have a sense of humor. Not sure about the other review saying all they served was hot dogs (?) - must be a different place as the food is good, once you get it. A small detail though, in such a gorgeous location!

Almost everyone staying there was racing like we were, so we were out all day from early morning to evening - I imagine it was very quiet during the day, but it was also quiet at night. After racing it was great to have an espresso martini at Dougie's (Skulduggery) over at the AYC and then go out for great food and late-night partying. Other than perhaps lying by the pool or sitting on your balcony reading a book, I can't imagine spending much time there during the day, but there's plenty to do in Antigua without sitting at your hotel!

  • Liked — The price, the convenient location and the huge, airy, cool balcony with amazing views!
  • Disliked — The beach outside wasn't great for swimming. Probably better now with the pool.
  • Tips/Secrets: — Be sure to get a taxi to Shirley Heights on Sunday nights for rum punch and reggae!

We have recently got back from a 2 week holiday at the Catamaran Hotel. We loved every minute of our holiday. Having visited 5 other Caribbean Islands, I probably enjoyed Antigua the most, if only because the hotel was small, friendly and made us feel like part of their family. We hired a car for the last 3 days of our stay to see more of the island but did not miss having one earlier. We used the local bus which was cheap and a lot cleaner than ours (in the UK). We managed to eat out somewhere different each evening except for the three evenings when we couldn't help returning to Kesari. It is just 10 minutes walk from the Catamaran (next door to the supermarket) and serves the most delicious food (Asian Tapas) I have eaten in a long time.

This is a lovely small hotel in a quiet harbor. The staff were wonderful with our children (ages 12 to 17) and were very helpful wih any requests to help find restaurants, shops, and tours. It was absolutely perfect for our needs as we prefer to meet local people and their culture and don't care for large resorts. We felt as though we were saying goodbye to our family when we left and had to promise to come back soon!

The Catamaran Hotel is a small family-owned hotel located in Falmouth Harbor. It is about a 5 minute drive, or 20 minute walk from English Harbor, the hub of activity on that side of the island.

We stayed at the hotel for several days in mid-April while our sailboat was undergoing some repairs at the local marina. The staff could not be more friendly or welcoming - front desk as well as housekeeping. We stayed in both an "Oceanfront" as well as "Beachfront" room. The 2nd floor Oceanfront rooms are slightly more spacious than the Beachfront rooms and have nice balconies with views of the harbor. The 1st floor rooms are slightly smaller but equally comfortable. The beach in front of the hotel is small but clean. There is also a very small pool. We chose to drive to other larger beaches on the island, but for a day or two of just relaxing the beach by the hotel is perfectly adquate.

Rooms were clean, bathrooms small but adequate. Bath towels were a bit worn, but the beach towels were thick and wonderful. The rooms have small kitchenettes which are nice and well enough equipped for preparing a small breakfast or lunches for the beach. We actually had a bbq using a grill provided by the hotel and prepared side dishes in our ktichenettes before having a cocktail hour and dinner by the pool.

If you're less ambitious, nearby is Ricarts, a restaurant owned by a french couple and not related to the hotel. It is typical "island service" - translation SLOW and fair value, but if you're not in a hurry and want to take advantage of free WIFI, it's an OK place to grab breakfast or dinner. Good fresh seafood. Over in English Harbor there are LOTS of options. We liked Mad Mongoose, Life, Le Cap Horn (pricey but GOOD) and don't miss the espresso martinis at Skullduggery. To eat where the locals eat - good inexpensive rotis - try Grace Before Meals. Also the jump up in Shirley Heights on Sundays is good fun.

We'd recommend this hotel to people looking for a quiet and relatively inexpensive hotel in Antigua a bit "away from it all."
