We went for 2 weeks as a family of 5. It was brilliant. We had been before for one week without the kids so knew what to expect.
We loved it.
The kids clubs are well run and children over 11 can sign themselves in and out which our middle kid did and then came and sailed with us or friends.. I wondered about whether they could include more sailing (they do 1 hour per day) but they also do loads of pool activities and beach games. The staff were very good at getting the kids to put on suntan cream.
The new kids club is not finished yet which might be a pian for some people as you have to walk about 200 yaerds to take the kids to the old club outside.
The first week was much less crowded than the second as it was peak half term.
We had quite a bit of rain which was heavy and seemed to arrive just before lunch causing everyone to rush into the restaurant at the same time which overloaded the facilities a bit.
The food was all help yourself but with plenty of choice and quantity for hungry sailors. They have a half board system where you get lunh some days and dinner on others. This lets you go and try other places. We went to Coconut Grove in Dickenson bay (VERY expensive) and the Big Banana (pizza, pasta etc a bit like TGIF's but 1/4 the price) in St Johns once we realised that everyone else (locals) had put the table candle under the table to keep away mosquitos.
Kids get lunch every day which seemed pretty good - healthy things available as well as the usual stuff. Kids could eat either at kids tea (4.45) or with parents. There was a video club for kids to go to in the evening.
We were very surprised by how many non- sailors there were there who kept comparing it to Mark Warner. They did not seem to appreciate that the Sunsail kit is really fantastic from Taz, through Topaz, Hobie-cats, Lasers and up to high performance dingies like RS800
The beach staff were really helpful and happy to rig & de-rig (in fact they insist)
Our only minor gripes were that there weren't enough dingies for the regatta, we went to sign up at 5.15 and the list was full (from 5.00) but you could still sail even though the regatta was on and also there were only 3 of the little logic motor boats available.
There were problems with the swimming pool leaking whilst we were there but they sorted it out and topped it up.
Overll the club manager and UK staff were really good. Some of the Antiguan staff were delightful, others a bit indifferent.
We went on "John's Garden tour" - which is a delight but a bit long - 2 hous culminating in him climbing up a coconut tree and getting a coconut down and we each got one to try.
The rooms are simple but we spent so little time in them they were perfect for us. All with showers and TV (not much reception)
You can also lounge by the pool, or go to the new spa with treatments/gym. We tried a class but they were held outside which was too hot for energetic aerobics.
Highly recommend this as a holiday if you like an active time.
