We stayed at Antigua village as part of our timeshare options with RCI. Antigua village itself is not a resort but instead a kind of hotel of condos.
I'll start by saying that Antigua is the most wonderful Carribean country we have ever visited (we have been too many)! The people are good-natured, funny and not at all pushy. Really genuine! You can tell that tourism is not their number one industry as they aren't polished as the Bahamas for example, and we loved that because you really feel like you are experience a new culture! And I have to mention they know how to have fun!
Quick recap:
Rooms: Definetely dated. They are maintained by the condo owners and many are in need of a refresh. All rooms we saw were clean so that wasn't an issue... Just a little old. A full kitchen is in the room with all needed cookware and serveware.
Food: There is a fantastic grocery store only 10 minutes from Antigua Village, the Epicurean. They carry many US and Canadian brands and we bought a lot of food that we were used to buying at home. That was a nice comfort. The fruit and meat/fish at the Epicurean were some of the freshest we had ever tasted. We were hesitant at first to buy raw meat and eggs but we were so glad we did. What a difference it makes in taste when there aren't a ton of preservatives!
Restaurants: Fantastic! We were shocked at the quality of the restaurants in Antigua. We are big time foodies and we were fully satisfied with every restaurant we tried from sushi to French. We highly recommend Le Bistro (unbelievably delicious) and Papa Zouk (amazing atmosphere). These two restaurants are MUSTS! There are many other great restaurants too many to name.
Beach: The beach is small but well maintained and quite quiet which was nice. We were happy with it.
Excursions: Miguel's Holiday Adventure at Turtle Island!!! You have to do it! A day of fun, sun, snorkelling (if you want) and great food and drinks. Miguel is the sweetest man and his son that is now manager of the tour is just wonderful and funny! You can't go worng for approx $60 this is well worth every penny and more. Our best excursion ever.
Weather: We weren't so lucky in this area. Lots of rain which is unusual for Antigua but I guess that's what you get in mid October. It didn't put a damper on things for us as there was plenty of other things to do.
If you have a chance to get to Antigua - GO!! We don't particularly recommend this resort (it certainly isn't bad though) what we really recommend in the island of Antigua - Pure Paradise!
