My husband and I used RCI for a timeshare week and were really looking forward to our week in Antigua. Our trip was great as we LOVED the island of Antigua and all of the glorious beaches and the rainforest, but our stay at Antigua Village was less than okay. First, realize that Dickensen's Bay is a nice place but overcrowded by the Sandals crowd (and this was LOW season!) who take over the entire beach with their chairs and activities. Sandals is just an atrocity in the beautiful island like Antigua. It is SO out of place and you look a the faces of the people staying there and they do not appear to be having a good time after they dropped a good $5K to stay there. The blaring music and activities from this complex really took away the feeling of relaxation that should be felt on a vacation. My recommendation is to stay elsewhere on the island - Jolly Beach was absolutely gorgeous as were SO many of the other natural, uncommercialized beaches in Antigua.

Back to Antigua Village - we checked in on a Saturday afternoon and were given a nice studio overlooking the pool area. We turned on the A/C and left to take a walk. Upon returning, we knew something was wrong with the A/C as it was only blowing out hot air and it was cooler outside than in the room. We called the front desk and asked for maintenance. They came to our unit twice within an hour and just shrugged saying, 'yep, it doesn't work'. We then had to ask for another room. The front desk fought us with that saying they needed to ask the timeshare office if it was okay. We learned that only a portion of the Village has assigned timeshare units and the remaining units are owner occupied. After a while, we were told it was okay to move, and we should come by and get a new set of keys. We were given a much smaller unit on the other side of the resort that did not even have a table to eat at. As the A/C worked there, we decided to make the best of it.
Note that ALL units have a king size bed which is actually two twins placed together - very uncomfortable.

The next day we decided to have dinner at the unit and discovered the stove did not work. We called the front desk and the response was, 'I will call to see if maintenance FEELS like coming by to fix it'. About an hour later, maintenance came and replaced the propane tank for the stove. We have never cooked on a propane stove before and did not like lighting it with a match everytime.....okay, we got over that issue after a day or so. Then my husband wanted to grill steaks one night and we asked the front desk about the availability of a gas grill (there were many outside around the units). Once again, the front desk was snotty to us and told us we have to wait until the next day and ask the timeshare office if it was okay for us.
Also note that in these units, the only table to eat on was outside on the patio with the lizards and birds.
Each and every time we dealt with the front office for a quick question or issue, we were treated very poorly and sometimes just ignored. When we went there to check out, the clerk made us wait while she returned phone calls and then told us we could not check out until we turned in our beach towels! My husband had to run back and get the towels and take them to housekeeping for a voucher before she would even close out our bill.
We have travelled to many Caribbean islands and stayed at many resorts and RCI exchanges, but this was by far one of our most unpleasant experiences. If we were to stay in Antigua again, we would not go to Dickensen Bay or Antigua Village. There are some peaceful wonderful spots on this island with little resorts that would certainly be much more enjoyable.
On a side note, a few previous reviews talked about a bar across the street that was noisy - there was only a chinese restaurant across the street with a mini golf course. I don't know what they were referring to. The noise from Sandals blaring microphones was what we heard from our unit.

We stayed at Antigua Village for only one night before checking into Sandals the next day. We had a late flight and didn't want to pay Sandals prices for a full day when we wouldn't arrive until after 9:00 PM.

I believe this property is privately owned condominiums that are rented out. That said, it looked as if there were some nice units in the Village. The unit we were given was not. There were ant-like bugs all over the kitchen area and bathroom and we had no food to attract them! These bugs somehow managed to cling to almost everything even after vigorous shaking of the item. The unit felt dirty and the bedspread was in need of laundering. The sheets appeared clean and bug-free. The unit was very loud (noise from the street and parking lots) and didn't feel very safe.

The bathroom was clean but had very little water pressure. The sink was literally a drip in the morning.

On the positive side, the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful. We received two free rum punches at the neighboring restaurant. The property looked well maintained.

My advice on this property would be to inspect your unit carefully and then ask for a different one if need be.

I stayed here while on a business trip to Antigua. We found this last minute after spending one night at a place under renovation. The condos are simple but nicely appointed. The resort has two good restuarants nearby, one with some night life. Not much of a beach on the resort, but you can accesss the beach of the Sandals resort next door. Service was good, and overall I recommend it. There is internet in the lobby, or one of the restuarants has free wi-fi.

We stayed at Antigua Village from 11/27/08 - 12/5/08. We loved our ocean front unit with a big patio and cushy furniture. If we wanted more sun, we could step out to the loungers right in front of our unit. There are also thatched umbrellas there for shade. There's swimming out front but no beach. You can walk to either side of the property to get to a sandy beach. We had a car so went off each day to visit the many beautiful beaches on the island. We loved our unit - well equipped kitchen and an updated bathroom with a nice walk in shower. The maids did a very nice job each day. The property was very neat and pretty. We stopped at the pool most afternoons for a quick dip but didn't spend any lounging time there since our patio was so nice. The pool area was clean and mostly quiet. There were usually lounge chairs available. Coconut Grove next door is very good for higher end dining. We got take away pizza at The Beach one night that was good and we got to enjoy it on our patio at sunset which was a treat. Another night we walked over to The Beach for dinner and found it only so so. There are much better places to eat in Antigua. We walked over to the Chippy wagon on two occasions. Fun and inexpensive. We visited the casino which is just across the parking lot. It was very, very quiet there. We were not bothered by the music at Tattooz - perhaps because we had an oceanfront unit which put us on the opposite side of the property. We did hear the bass one night but not enough to keep us awake. We never used the a/c while we were there. The breeze was lovely and the ceiling fan kept the temperature perfect for us. The water was rough the first few days we were there and sleeping with the windows open and the waves crashing outside was just lovely. We would definitely stay here again.

I have stayed at Antigua Village four times in 2008. I have also stayed at 3 other properties and this is my first choice for my purpose. It would be excellent for those who prefer to have a bit more space than a hotel room and want to feed themselves rather than eat out three times a day. Staff have been friendly although in typical island style check-in and check-out are not Sheraton-slick.

Yes, there are ants in the kitchens. There are ants all over the island. Try and find any place that doesn't have ants.

It's a nice well-maintained property which is well located on a beach and close to restaurants if you want to eat out. The one big problem I have found is the wretched 'tattooz' bar across the street. On some nights they must be using speakers the size of a house because the ground shakes. I don't know how anybody in the four neighbouring hotels can sleep through that. One night it went on till 5:00am. Are there no 'disturbing the peace' laws on Antigua?
