I relied heavily on tripadvisor in booking our trip so I have been very detailed on my thoughts for others to read when planning their trip! Hopefully I haven't left anything out.

We were at Galley Bay from June 27 - July 5.

The first experience of the first -class service was upon check-in. We had a late flight to Antigua, so we didn't arrive to the resort until well after the dinner hour, but when we were whisked to our room via golf cart we arrived to sandwiches, fruit and a chilled bottle of champagne (honeymoon perk). We took our late-night dinner and toasting glasses to the beach where we sat under the moonlight and soaked in the sounds of the waves! What a way to start our honeymoon!

We stayed in Room 67, which was a beachfront suite. Great location away from the center of the resort, but between the restaurants. Plenty of privacy....in fact we really didn't have much interaction with other guests, unless we initiated conversation. There are plenty of beach loungers, under the thatch umbrellas in front of each suite. Never had to venture away from the backdoor of our suite.

ROOM~ We read other reviews of noise, we were not bothered by any nature. You do hear the frogs and ocean waves, but was not at all anything to keep you awake. The air conditioner sound actually drowns most of that out. We found we slept better at Galley Bay than at home because of the ocean waves! We were in Suite 67, we had a deluxe suite. Our suite was very large. Huge bathroom with double shower -no bathtub. No complaints, but heard wonderful comments about the Premium Suites. They were sold out during our visit. The next building Rooms 69 and higher were newer buildings without the slats and totally enclosed by glass. (Management told us all will be changed to complete glass soon)

STAFF ~The staff goes beyond description. We had the best experience with everyone we encountered, whether it was housekeeping, grounds staff, restaurant staff, guest relations, bar etc There was not one person that didn't greet us with a "hello or good morning" or respond to any of our requests with a "my pleasure" The new manager, James, was very outgoing and eager to hear what guests have to say. But the daily interaction with the other staff is worth mentioning....There are a few people I will not forget, Kerry, dancing with us on our last night or singing during the day, Saskier, Caryl, Mike Mathews, Hazeldeen, Natasha, Stuart, Kenny, Daryl and Iba. The Spa Staff as well were unbelievable; Jocylyn gave me the best 2 massages I've ever had!

FOOD~ The food was plentiful and delicious. Never went hungry
There are 2 choices for eating, the Gauguin and the SeaGrape. We ate breakfast each morning at SeaGrape and rotated for lunch btw the 2. Dinner is by reservations only at Gauguin (make reservations in am for the evening sittings 6:30 or 8:30)
We ate at both for dinner, not disappointed at either location.
There is also a 4 o'clock tea that has sandwiches and cookies, 5 o'clock BarBites, and 6 o'clock Hordourves. Plenty off opportunities to ward off the hunger pangs, the difficult thing is now we are at home we don't have the same offerings in the afternoon!
Don't forget the Manager's Reception on Wednesday night and the BBQ on Thursday night, both at the SeaGrape Restaurant. Don't miss either of those events.
Note: There are tons of little birds, which make themselves very comfortable on your tabletops. We had plenty of meals with one or two joining us, they do not take things off your plate unless it is pushed their way. Not annoying at all.

OUTINGS~
A trip to St Johns was interesting for a few hours, we visited the museum and the cathedral, but shopping is much like other port cities and the usual port stores.
I had planned and booked a tour prior to arriving Antigua, based on reviews with adventureantigua. We chose the CircumNav tour which I highly recommend. (See pictures) Galley Bay can aid in reservations, although I contacted via the web directly with the company.
Shirley Heights on Sunday Night, wasn't a bad trip, but definitely caters to the hotel groups. It is an evening with live bands, cash bar and food to purchase - in our case a thunderstorm also added to the ambience!

We were very content with our days of waking up, eating breakfast, lying on the beach, eating again, massages, eating, lying by the pool....You easily lose track of the time or the day of the week. We loved it!

OTHER AMENITIES~ there is a library and internet access for guest’s convenience. The sports area on beach offers sailing lessons and a variety of sailboats, and snorkel equipment. We snorkeled in Galley Bay and saw a variety of oceanlife from fish to jellyfish.

One thing I wish I had packed was an inflatable raft to float in the ocean, there were a few that were floating on them and they would have been nice as it gets hot on the beach.

MINOR BEEFS~The biggest complaint I could find was the few choices/varieties of desserts. My husband, not a sweet tooth, didn't find that a problem. We did voice this with the new Manager, James, and he appreciates all comments or suggestions. The other noted comment was that if you need cash you must go to town to the bank, so bring plenty of cash if you plan on using cabs for any excursions. Otherwise cash is not needed for anything. The nightly entertainment but it ends by 11ish. Not that there is a party crowd, but the bar stays open till midnight, and it is awfully quiet - unless you make friends to socialize with...which we did and usually were the last ones to finally wander down the paths to our suites. We did express the possibility of extending the entertainment until bar closes. Especially if you eat the latter sitting, normally it is quiet by the time you make it back to the TeePee Bar.

My husband and I were so reluctant in our departure, we have never been pampered and taken care of at any other place EVER.....we unfortunately realized that our days were numbered and our flight home was an early departure. Not to be put out, Iba, made sure that we had a golfcart at 5:45am and a cab to the airport by 6am. And again, there was a 'to-go" breakfast of fresh fruit, breakfast bar and drinks prepared for us to take on our trip to the airport.

My husband spent hours, planning, reading reviews, and even changing reservations from other resorts before deciding on Galley Bay and I can say without a doubt - that was the best decision we made. The best vacation ever. We only stayed 8 days, and promise to extend that our next visit.

I have attached pictures and it is more beautiful in person!

My wife and I had an amazing honeymoon at the Galley Bay Hotel, Antigua. We booked through Virgin Premium and the seats were upstairs in the jumbo and really nice.

We booked a premium room. We requested one on the eastern side of the resort and it was really beautiful and directly on the beach. The hotel staff gave us cocktails, champagne and flowers when we arrived and everything was included. The restaurants offer 3 course meals lunch and dinner, and the food was fantastic. The evening meal was smart dress (men collared shirts!). The hotel was quiet with a large beach that only had a few people at a time on it. In the evening bands accompanied the meal, ideal for a romantic honeymoon. There is also a bar serving cocktails and drinks free all day. The main restaurant served great food and the Gaugin restaurant was idyllic.

The room on the beach was luxuriuos with a double bathroom, air conditioning, tv and a fridge that was restocked free with beer, coke and lemonade. The room did not have glass windows, this kept it cool in the breeze but the crickets were loud in the night time. The hotel is in between a lake and the beach, and has a lot of wildlife, including small birds, lizards and crabs. We were swimming in the sea every day and it was warm and clear. In 10 days I saw 2 small jellyfishes.

We stayed 10 days and visited a few places on the island, including Shirley's Heights, a boat trip around the island and into St Johns. These trips were fun and relaxing.

We both felt the hotel was amazing and would visit it again.

My wife and I had the pleasure of spending 7 days at Galley Bay Resort in Antigua. Like previous reviews, if you are looking to be entertained, this is not for you. If you are looking to spend time in a tropical paradise and be treated and fed like royalty, then this is the right spot. The location is absolutely beautiful, the food was so good, words do not do it justice. Be prepared to gain weight while you are there!! What made this vacation special was the way we were treated by several of the staff. Kerri, Natasha, Stuart, Thank you for treating us like old friends while we were there, your smiles were brighter than the carribean sun. A very special thanks to Mike Matthews. This is the hardest working, most pleasant man we have ever come across. Mike's hospitality and professionalism made us not only looking forward to every meal, but also, to listen to the passionate way he described every item on the menu. Thank you Mike! My wife and I stayed in one of the superior beachfront cottages. The room was very nice and just a few steps away from the water. When we go there next year, we will definetly upgrade to a premium room which we were taken on a tour by one of the ladies that cleans the rooms. The beach was absolutely fantastic, My wife and I sometimes wondered if we were the only ones staying at the resort. I never counted more than 8 people on the beach at any one time. When we wanted to snorkle or go kayaking, we talked to Ryan, who issues out the equipment you are free to use at the beach. This young man was one of the nicest and most helpful of all the staff. I guess you could tell by reading this review we were really taken by our experience at the resort. My wife and I discussed going someplace else next year, but we decided to go back to Galley Bay because it will be like going back to see some old freinds.

Antigua is a fantastic island and Galley Bay is one of the best resorts I have seen.
The cottages are charming ( like living in bedrock with Fred Flintstone). The plunge pool was a bonus.
The beach is fabulous, soft white sand and plenty of it. Sea was a beautiful colour and full of fish life. Even saw an octopus!
Restaurants smart and the food was wonderful, lots of choice. It was nice to be waited on everyday instead of a buffet. The BBQ night was the best food in my opinion.
Only really have two complaints. 1. The service at times was very slow and they did forget to bring extra bread and drinks after ordering them. They also ran out of a couple of things on the menu ( which you dont expect in this class of resort ). 2. If you stay in the cottages some building noise can be heard which is a little disappointing.

Overall, i would like to try other resorts on the island before returning to Galley bay, but wouldn't hesitate to go back!

If you are looking for a laid back, quiet resort with no children then this is the resort for you!
We were greeted with a rum punch as soon as we stepped out of our taxi, a nice refreshing welcome after the long flight and hot taxi ride (our taxi's air con was not working, V hot, but we were so excited about getting to Galley bay we didn't let it get to us)
We were then wisked away on a golf buggy to our room, via a guided tour of the resort, and I knew then that we had made the right choice coming here.
Our room was lovey (we had one of the suites) the view was amazing and the room was spotless. The maid came a cleaned our room every day and left clean towels for the bathroom and the beach.
All the food was amazing, you can eat from 7am till 10pm evey day if the mood takes you, as they have various things on offer from afternoon tea to bar snacks and breakfast to long lazy lunches. I am a very fussy eater and there was always something for me.
The staff are great, not too in your face, but polite and really looked after you and made you feel welcome.
Entertainment was lo key, they had bands that played whilst you had dinner, and this suited us, as we are not the types who want all night discos full of loud and drunken people (the only slightly cringy entertainment was the fashion show, as you were trying to eat your dinner whilst these women "worked it" around the room stopping each time right by our table, however I hear the people who were sitting in the bar area came of worse as they had to put up with a "dance move" as well)
The beach is lovely, yes the sea could be a bit rough some days, but if you want a dip there was always the pool, and it was never rough enough to stop me from dipping my toes
I loved the birds, I know some people found them anoying because they come and pinch sugar sachets from the bowls on the tables, but I found this really cute (and I haven't come down with any strange disease from having let them!)
To sum up. the Galley bay is a quiet ,refined yet rustic and relaxing resort and whilst we were there seemed to appeal to mostly older british couples. (me and my partner are mid 30's and we were one of the youngest couples there)
I'm now saving my pennys and looking at what possesions I can sell so that I can go back again!!
