We got married at Galley Bay on the 9th May, Ernestine the wedding coordinator was fantastic and ensures everything runs smoothly, organising the wedding was very easy as everything is done by the hotel and Galley Bay do this really well.

We stayed in a premium suite (room 69) and this was the best room we have ever stayed in. This was a ground floor suite where we could walk straight out on to the beach, we could hear the waves at night despite having double glazing but this didn’t bother us one bit. The room was spacious, comfortable, and had everything we wanted and more. The bathroom was huge, with a double showers and sinks and a huge bath.

There were 5 courses available for every meal, and the food was lovely, there was a different fresh fish on the menu every day and some we had never even heard off, and all meals are cooked to order so if you didn’t want something just asking not to have it and it was not a problem. We were also surprised because we thought the menu might be repeated more in the main restaurant but it wasn’t. Sometimes the service was a bit slow but the restaurant is set in a fantastic setting so we wasn’t bothered. Your glasses are constantly being topped up and you hardly ever need to go to the bar to get a drink.

Galley Bay is set in a secluded bay in a stunning setting, surrounded by beautiful gardens this attracts a lot of different wildlife which is lovely to watch. There are plenty of sun beds to choose from and the beach is very spacious so you are not sitting on top of one another. Going into the sea the beach does shelve quite suddenly. Out of 14 days we only saw the red flag twice and the sea was pretty calm but there can be quite a pull on the waves when they broke against the shore.

We were bitten by the sand flies but using a good bite cream this stopped any irritation. There wasn’t too many mosquito’s about and GB did provide a repellent in the rooms. Also during our stay they were “fogging” the grounds before sun rise, this ensured there were hardly any mosquito’s.

The staff were are friendly and efficient at everything they do, and any request was never too much trouble.

The excursions with Virgin were pretty expensive, and on most of the excursions you had to pay your own taxi fare which also added to the cost. We used Jo Jo when ever we needed a taxi, and he was a great ambassador for Antigua.

We shall definitely be returning to Antigua it’s a wonderful place, and Galley Bay really is paradise.

A wonderful hotel providing excellent food and first class service. Our holiday was perfect - the only downside, completely out of the hotel's control, was the rough sea, preventing swimming on a number of days.

My husbnd and I have just returned from a one week stay at Galley Bay during the last week in April.
Having travelled extensivley around the world and to many islands we can honestly say this is one of the best resorts we have ever experienced.
The setting is spectacular, surrounded by thousands of lush tropical gardens. The Gaugin restaurant is like a setting out of a South Seas movie, several feet from the ocean with each table under it's own private thatched roof. The odd baby goat comes down from the hills and nibbles on the grass while you are dining.
The food was very good and we didn't feel we needed a change until later in the week where we decided to eat out one night. Nice but really not necessary.
Antigua is an awesome island and the people are incredibly warm and hospitable everywhere you go. Taxi's are fairly expensive so cash is required to get around.
We took a classic safari tour with Marcus which made our week. It was excellent and full of rich historical information. It helps to have someone who is so very passionate about what he does and an advocate for the preservation of Antigua history and the environment.

Our deluxe beachfront room is about as good as it gets. Several feet from the ocean on a private bay. A large balcony - which we prefer to ground level. Nice rattan lounge chairs and nice size room with walk in closet and huge bathroom. Beautifully designed and well thought out. Housekeeping came twice a day and provided bed turndown service and fresh towels every evening. Mini fridge was refilled according to your needs daily.

Truly an exceptional experience overall.

Just a gentle warning - the ocean can be quite noisy at night since the beachfront deluxe rooms don't have windows - only wooden shutters. Thankfully some friends we met had extra ear plugs which helped us the first couple of nights until we slowly got used to the environment.

Would return in a heartbeat and would highly recommend this to anyone who wants a relaxing holiday.

My husband and I went to Galley Bay for our honeymoon the end of March/beginning of April, 2006. We can't say enough good things about the place! We were so relaxed during our stay at Galley Bay. We loved waking up to the sound of the ocean each morning. Unfortunately, the water was rough our entire trip and we never got to take advantage of the non-motorized water sports that are included. Otherwise, everything was outstanding – the food, the drink, and the staff. Most people don’t leave the resort. We ventured out a couple of times and were always happy to get back to Galley Bay. We would highly recommend it for those who just want to put up their feet and get some much needed R&R.

The other reviews rating this place a 4/5 are right so I won't bore you by repeating them

Location, about as spectacular as it gets, I've travelled extensively and believe me, it doesn't get much better than this

Accommodation, we stayed in a Gaugin Cottage (G7). After we got over the strangeness of two huts, one for a bed and the other a toilet and for hanging things up, we had no problems at all. In fact we loved it and preferred it to many places I have stayed in at $2000 per night +

Service: A bit hit and miss, mostly outstanding but every now and then one person would let the side down. But, mostly outstanding

Alcohol: Fantastic, house white wasn't great but no one held a gun at my head to make me drink it. No complaints

Food: The diggest let down. Without a doubt this was 3* food. I don't know whether they skimped because it was all inclusive or what, but the Americans weren't happy and the english quietly grumbled. This was a real shame because everything else was excellent

Overall: Highly recommeneded, but with the food caveat and the caveat that Gaugin isn't going to work for everyone.

I'll be back, see you there
