Felt the need to write my own review after reading kaeny's comments as she makes some relevant points. First of all, we loved Galley Bay and just booked to return in April, and we never repeat resorts because we love new experiences. Galley Bay captured our hearts and is a great fit for what we look for on vacation, but as Kae's review demonstrates, it's not for everyone. It does not have a Four Seasons/Ritz level of pampering service and I have been to those properties in the Caribbean. I have to wonder if Kae experienced some off-season lethargy or cutting of corners, I did feel there were some service issues in March with the addition of about 28 more rooms; we were there before the new restaurant opened and the main restaurant was very crowded and yes, the service could be slow, particularly at breakfast. Never had trouble getting additional drinks or attention, though. Yes, beach service would be a nice addition but the absence of it didn't really bother us, the mini-bar in the rooms has all the refreshments you need and the bar is almost always open. In March, they were always tending to the landscaping and I found the property well-kept. The beach chairs are not particularly comfortable but I did not find them to be moldly or falling apart. I do think they should upgrade the beach chairs though, at those prices, you should be comfortable on the beach. Yes, the pool is small but we loved the wonderful tropical ambiance and floating in the pool and looking up at all the beautiful foliage. Had to chuckle about the comment about the pants requirement as I agree totally, it's like some last vestige of the old, formal caribbean -- my husband wore shorts to the cocktail hour which was actually held before the official hours when pants are required and was reprimanded by the manager which really annoyed him. GB's whole ambiance (and what we like about it) is tropical, rustic, laid-back, escapism luxury (not marble and crystal luxury like the FS) and the pants rule is just quirky. We did have a lot of trouble getting our mini-bar refilled, after three requests finally had to call the manager. But all these issues for us did not detract in any way from GB being an incredible experience. We've been to many Caribbean resorts, our two favorites are Nisbet Plantation and Galley Bay and if you have been to these you know they are not typical, charmless, boxy beach resorts but very unique vacation experiences with lots of Caribbean charm, wonderful people working there, incredible ambiance, extreme relaxation, peace and quiet and wonderful rooms. If you need constant attention, sorbet and fruit skewers served hourly, your sunglasses cleaned and sunscreen applied, then choose the Four Seasons. If you want a unique, special vacation, accept the concept of Caribbean time and choose Galley Bay. And one more thing -- they have the best rum punch ever and I have been dying for it for the last six months!
