Arriving at the hotel with such high expectations and heavily damaged bank account, I was nervous.
Post Check-In and complimentary room upgrade (Premium Suites), Strong Rum Punch and Cold Towel, Journey on the Golf Cart over the lake and through the Caribbean Gardens, opening my ground floor apartment on the beach, through the outward mirrored doors leading to the beach and out to the beach with my feet hitting the soft sands with views of a Caribbean paradise. I would say that I forgot about my worries and just didn’t care how much money (not a lot) was left in the bank account.
The food offering throughout our stay was simply stunning, delicious and original. I personally looked forward to every meal and worked out at the rather limited gym (only weird people workout on holiday) to ensure that I could eat without guilt. The Rib Eye steak (imported from Canada) at the Gaugin, the biggest juiciest piece of beef I have ever sunk my teeth into. The pig roast BBQ on Thursdays with home baked fresh desserts, including the baked vanilla cheesecake and indulgent chocolate cake. I put on 2kgs.
The Premium Suites are very contemporary with magnificently large bathrooms. The room itself was beautifully kept by the daily clean and always in a pristine condition. We were placed on the bottom floor with a balcony that led onto the beach and a beach shower ensured we didn’t carry sand into the apartment. There were 4 of us who travelled, with the other couple taking the upstairs room, there are positives for both rooms but personally I preferred the ocean views and tall ceiling of the upstairs room to the convenience of a beachfront.
The service at the Hotel felt very hands off, there were no directions or many staff members on the lookout to assist, this is very much in keeping with the theme of Seclusion and Paradise. As with many Caribbean resorts the service was very Caribbean, a holiday resort, this is not and that is positive if that’s what you want.
The beach was beautiful to look at and relaxing to listen to. But please do not expect calm Caribbean waters (depending on the time of year), the seas kept their vibrant multi-blues but were not welcoming or relaxing to experience. Throughout the course of the trip we took the Kayaks out and around to a beach around Armani’s mountain Villa, there, the beach was protected in a cove and the sea, very still.
After a year of hard work, a trip to Galley Bay is what is needed to recharge the batteries, it’s not exciting and it’s not an experience. Galley Bay is relaxing, quiet and romantic, it was exactly what I needed. Now back to work so I can afford the next holiday.
