“Ocean vista and tropical setting”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 2, 2013

Just returned from a week stay there and was thrilled with the exceptional service, good food, and endless drink service! The luxurious site is breathtaking with lots of birds and greenery. The beach is at your doorstep and the waves continuously strong. We also had a massage at the sp which was great and treated ourselves to a dinner on the beach wich was amazing. Antigua is a beautiful island with lots of history (Marcus's jeep day tour). A catamaran day tour (Treasure island) also allowed us to view the entire island from the ocean, crossing over form the caribbean see to the Atlantic.

They have three restaurants to choose from at dinner, and a couple with a grill for lunch. Breakfast is served at the main venu, with buffet choice and a la carte breakfast option.

Lovely, very friendly and helpful service, great room with gigantic balcony with view on the ocean, good food, and almoit daily animation in the evening: steel band, fashion show, art and jewelry display, bbq night etc.

We spent a week in Galley Bay, Antigua.
Resort's standard is fairly high, the staff are friendly and helpful, extending a positive Caribbean welcome.
Linen and room facilities were fine, only minor amount of feedback is the lack of a bidet or a detachable shower head. Well, you know, in this level's resort one expects personal to have all the mod cons or at least the basic implements for effortlessly maintain personal hygiene.

Other than the above, the bed, gym, food and pool were fine and the drinks adequate.

We took some of the excursions of the island, both by jeep and catamaran, visited St John's and the staff at the resort were helpful with organising the trips.

I'd definitely go back or recommend it: we had a great holiday

Room Tip: I'd recommend the luxury or superior rooms by the beach

Having just returned from Galley Bay I can echo the comments already made by other travellers.

The resort deserves its 4 stars, and it is a good one at that. The setting is beautiful in lush, tropical gardens. The accommodation is nicely spread out so you get the feeling of space and privacy. Our deluxe beachfront room was meters from the beach and we could hear the waves from inside which was wonderful. All inclusive, there was plenty of food and drink available, you certainly do not need to go hungry! Our favourite restaurant was the Seagrape and the Barefoot grill. We did enjoy a meal at Ismays which came with a supplement, but personally I did not think it was worth the extra as the food in both Seagrape and Gaugin was just as good.

My minus points for this resorts would be the swimming – don’t get me wrong – the setting and the beach is beautiful, but be wary of the strong waves. Unless you are a strong swimmer, I would not recommend entering the water. However, there is a swimming pool available. The resort itself is perhaps somewhat isolated, should you wish to go anywhere, you will need to book a taxi. Service generally was very good, but not 100% consistent. On the last day when we checked out from our room into the Beach Cabbana, there were no towels in there. We had to ask 4 times for them, before they were finally delivered around 6pm (6hrs later). Also, we had booked a buggy to take us to the main reception at certain time to catch a taxi to the airport, and again, we had to chase this twice with Guest Services, before it finally arrived 15min late. However, having said, that, I would happily revisit Galley Bay again and would not hesitate recommending it to others.

My top tip: take your currency in Americal Dollars

Galley Bay is a great resort for couples looking to get away from it all. The beach is superb and together with the pool area there is plenty of space to spread out. The resort has a quiet and relaxed feel about it partly due to the no children policy.

We stayed in an upstairs premium beachfront suite which was very comfortable for two people. Personally we prefer upstairs as we think it would be quieter, however others will prefer direct access onto the beach which the downstairs suites offers. Upstairs you also get the beautiful vaulted ceiling which make the room feel even bigger.

We enjoyed eating at both the main restaurants (sea grape and gaugin) and Ismay's restaurant is a good optional extra for a special night. Overall the food is good and a lot of effort is made with the way it is presented. There is also the barefoot grill which serves quick food if you don't want to sit down for too long at lunch. The two main bars are good places to hang around and relax with a 'Galley Bay special' cocktail at your side.

Evening entertainment features local bands and singers playing typically caribbean music which most people seem to enjoy. The pace is a bit on the slow side, but you have to remember nothing happens at a fast pace on holiday. The one exception was with the female singer on Monday evening who was very good and upped the pace encouraging dancing. It was great to see the staff join in on the dance floor.

The resort's management team were very visible and eager to help so a big thank to Chris and his team for making our stay feel special. The staff too were great and always willing to help and join in with conversation. Special thanks to Natasha P.

We only ventured out once during our stay as we have been to Antigua several times. On this occasion we opted for a sailboat trip with Captain Sean (Mast Confusion). Sean can be found most mornings walking along the beach looking for sales - don't be put off by this. The afternoon trip takes you out along Antigua's west coastline to a reef area where you can swim and snorkel. With the wind in the sails the yacht was good fun, but avoid the very front of the boat as you will get very wet! Overall an excellent trip with a great opportunity to see the sun setting on the return journey. Sean provides refreshments and even some local roti to keep you going. Byron can also be found on the beach selling trips on the Wadadli Catamaran boat.

Taxis to and from the airport take about 20-30 minutes depending on time of day and cost around $20 US. Very easy to arrange on arrival - just look for the taxi departure stand - across the road on the left after exiting the terminal building.

In short Galley Bay is a great option and I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

Room Tip: premium beachfront suites are very big with plenty of space.

My wife and I stayed at the Galley Bay Resort for our champagne anniversary. When we arrived they told us we were upgraded to a beachfront room. The first thing that ran through my head was not this again... We had the same issue travelling back in March when we went to Jamaica. We told them we wanted the Gaugin cottage, it was what we had booked. The main reason I booked that room was for the plunge pool. When all was said and done, we were able to get our requested cottage. We were very greatful that they had upgraded us, however we had our heart set on the plunge pool.

The staff is fantastic, always helpful and kind hearted. Only have buffet at breakfast time if you chose to was also nice. It gave the resort a classier feel to it. Gaugin severs a great meal for supper, the Sea Grape is always good with a different menu everyday. Rarely get the same food twice...

The grounds are just beautiful! Very mature landscape a with the guest that stay there. By no means is this a party resort. If your looking for an upscale party resort check out Sandals. If you want to relax with your significant other and just take it all in then Galley Bay is the place to be!

If you choose this wonderful resort bring misquito repellant with you... As the resort is located on the beach with two beautiful lagoons in the back the flies can get pesky at times in the evening.

This has to be one of the first resorts that I have stayed at that the resort manager makes daily rounds and stops to ask you how your day is and if everything is ok. To me that sold me on coming back to the Galley Bay!

Natasha and Arianne are some of the best bartenders... Ask them to make you a purple rain or a purple snowstorm. You will not regret!!

Ismays was good, but not sure if it's really worth the extra $35 pp for supper. If you want a delicious light lunch then try the barefoot grill. Mouth watering fast lunch for those on the go!

Until we meet again Galley Bay!!

As always, it is interesting to read the reviews by others, who happen to be staying at the same time we visited Galley Bay. The impressions really run the gamut from "overwhelmed" to "disgusted." We were at Galley Bay from 16-23 Nov 2013. My wife and I have traveled to 76 countries over the past twenty years, so we feel we are pretty good judges of "good" and "bad" accommodations, atmosphere, food and service. At dinner our last night we discussed a comparison of many of the "great" places we have stayed and we put Galley Bay easily in the top five. We are talking about the Hilton Maldives; the Hilton Bora Bora; Londolozi in South Africa; the Peninsula, Bangkok; and the Cape Grace in South Africa. I am amazed that anyone could complain about the food. The variety was as good as any place I have ever been. It was well prepared and delivered efficiently and always with a big smile. Your drink glass was never even low, let alone empty. One night when complimenting the waitress on the quality of my steak, she offered to get me another if I wanted. Way above and beyond our expectations. The room was large, clean and inches from the beach. The setting was as good as it gets. We rarely return to the same place twice because there is just too much to see in the World. However, Galley Bay has joined the short list of Londolozi and Bora Bora....places where we know we will return.

Room Tip: I would suggest ground floor because beach access is so easy.

1st time to GB, not disappointed. Premier beach front with huge comfy bed. Large room with balcony overlooking beach toward Gaugin end. Take lunch at Gaugin its quiet with great position on beach. Do go to ismays it is worth it. Excellent schooling from guys at water sports centre, get on a hobbies on your own what a feeling. Also try the walks especially to the fort. Rooms are kept very clean and have all you need ( never used the TV though). We found most of the staff could not do enough for you and the management were visible nearly every day to check all is well. Yes it may be too quiet for the party crowd but you will always get great spot on the beach or by the pool and with good food and cocktails it's a great place to relax. We'll be back

Room Tip: First floor premier beach front between sea grape and Gaugin,
