This is the perfect Caribbean resort, comfortable immaculate rooms set on a secluded beach, with a 5* dining experience. The staff go that extra mile to make sure you are well looked after. You won't find loud music, water polo etc for daytime entertainment, just the sound of the sea and the birds. My boyfriend and I fell in love with this place and will probably go back , it is very romantic and my advise to anyone planning a wedding in the Caribbean "choose this place" you won't be disappointed. We almost booked a Gauguin bungalow and were glad we didn't as the bathroom and bedroom are divided by an open walkway, sounds fun until its rains and the mozzies are waiting for you.
The sound of crashing waves!!!! was the only complaint we heard, that was from someone staying in a bungalow with shutters and not the soundproofed patio doors that are on the other rooms. I can't speak highly enough of this hotel, and like most people that have tracked it down i am very well travelled and don't usually go back to the same place, Im making an exception for Galley Bay.

Well what can I say that has not already been said.
The resort does exactly what all the other reviews say it does.

We tried various booking combinations, quotes from Virgin, Carribean Warehouse, the hotel itself, and eventually booked direct with XL, who provided the entire package for £6100, with the business class upgrade, which was well worth it.(why do so few people mention the price they paid on tripadvisor?)

We stayed in the new premium beachfront rooms, which were very comfortable and being able to walk straight out onto the beach was fantastic. A massive bathroom with a shower large enough for 10 as are the beds.

We ate predominantly at the new restaurant, Ismays for both lunch and dinner. Its menu has a local slant, ie a delicious goat
curry. You could mix and match the menu, like double battered fish for a starter rather than a main course and then tuck into a helping of curry. Stuart runs this and he and all his team really looked after us. They did not go out of their way, because this is the normal level of service they and everyone in the resort provides. Gail in Ismays kitchen is responsible for half a stone of excess baggage flying back after the 14 days, but to be honest it was a combined weight gain effort from all, in particular, Sandie, Claudia and Foster in the bar looking after us. The Friday night band were brilliant, go and say hello when they are having a break, they were great to talk to. In fact all the local music at Ismays was great, even down to one man and his steel drum.

The Gaugin and Seagrape restaurants were equally good. We never had anything other than a great meal wherever we went. Lookout for Heather she is fantastic.

Sunsets - always take your camera, we only had one spectacular sunset in 14 days, so its really hit and miss and we missed it.

Above all its the friendliness and genuiness of all the staff that stood out for us. Every time they served you you were 'welcome' and there was nothing contrived or forced, they really meant it. They really did not need the 'Always a plasure' green badge. This was totally unnecessary. Why do you need a badge when you have a smile that says it all?

My only observation would be that the bar snacks and nibbles could do with revamping. The bar snacks were sporadic, depending on where you were sitting. The evening nibbles lacked some imagination. Bearing in mind the majority of guests were British, it would been more useful to have the The Times online as a daily flyer rather than the New York Times. Beach hawkers were limited to a couple of jewellery girls every day who were innocous enough.

We were disappointed with the transfer arrangements. XL use St James travel on the Island. We travelled to and from the resort in the most dilapitated of people carriers. No safety belts except for the driver, no aircon and no suspension!. Insist on this being sorted before you book.

The hotel offers a late check out, where possible, and they either charge $25 for a cabana or $75 to keep your room. This is donated to charity which is a nice touch. We could have stayed in the resort even longer but St James did not bother to tell us the plane had left Gatwick 2 hours late - bearing in mind its only 20 minutes from Galley Bay to the airport . Is it that difficult to organise?

Would we go again? you know what we probably will.

Any questions just ask. You are welcome!

Spent a week at Galley Bay after a disappointing week in Tobago which had made us worried about the level of service we would receive. We were certainly not disappointed here. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. Our accommodation was wonderful overlooking a beautiful beach. We are always wary about all inclusive and hate buffets and the "local" drinks which are normally provided, but not at Galley Bay. All meals are waiter service, the food is good and all drinks are branded. Had a wonderfully relaxing week and loved the resort.

“Gorgeous Weddingmoon at Galley Bay!!!!!!!!”

We stayed at Galley Bay from May 31-June 7th, for our weddingmoon. I had researched on tripadvisor between 3 resorts in Antigua and choose Galley Bay as our first choice..
We were not dissapointed! We were upgraded to one of the new premium beach front suites and our view was a tropical paradise! The room was nice not five star but its the carribean. The resort and grounds were beautiful, the staff very friendly, the wedding planners were on top of things, I had no worries on my wedding day. Ernestine the wedding planner is as wonderful aa everyone has written. We were a little upset that we had been refused any flowers other than carnations by another wedding coordinator, an upgrade to lilies or roses was $47 U.S, the Spa was double the prices that are shown on the Internet, updo $65 , french manicure $50 . We wanted to hire someone to use our camcorder/ camera equipment and were told that we had to use their photographer and videographer, flat prices of $$350 and $400, a bit steep for poor quality pictures. Steel band is $188 so bring your wallet but don''t keep it in the safe unless you make sure it is properly locked, we were robbed $60 by the fridge stocking boy. We filed a report with security and he was arrested. In return my flowers and cake were upgraded and Ernestine offered to take our pictures, but we asked the porter Iba and gave him a very generous tip. If you have good quality digital camera equipment that you want to use find Iba the Wedding Guy. He drives the wedding party around in a cadillac golf cart and knows how to take professional poses, the picture shown were taken by him, hes also the guy you want to see for anything you may need, please tip him well! Tammy and Dean say so. All the staff work very hard there. One thing I would like to see the owner do is give the staff the leftover buffet food instead of throwing it in the garbage, some of the staff I'm sure would appreciate bringing home food for their families, the poverty in Antigua is heartbreaking but the Island itself is beautiful. All in all would I go there again to get married? In a heartbeat, our wedding day was the best day of our lives!!

“A wonderful relaxing honeymoon”

Galley Bay Resort

Galley Bay was a wonderful honeymoon. My husband and I have a daughter, so we did not want a crazy party, we wanted beautiful surroundings, good food, and a lot of sleep. We got them all! On the plane to Antigua there were many couples going to Sandels and I was so happy we did not pick that place. They were all actting like they were going to spring break.
We loved it and can't wait to go back!
