“Beautiful Honeymoon Week”

We spent our honeymoon week at Galley Bay (April 20-27)after spending at great week at the St.James's Club where we got married with 18 of our friends and family joining us for the week.)We were in need of some alone time by the time everyone left...

We were greeted with a cold refreshing cloth and a delicious glass of rum punch upon our arrival. We filled in some paperwork and then we were off on a golf buggy .We were given a small yet informative tour on the way to our room. Much to our surprize we had been upgraded to a premium suite from the deluxe room that we had booked!

We were in one of the new suites on the second floor. We loved the vaulted ceilings! The suite was very spacious and the bathroom was huge-I used the soaker tub every night,it was fabulous to sink into at the end of the night.

We arrived to a complimentary bottle champagne and were shown around our room.About 20 minutes into our stay our phone started ringing every 10-15 minutes once and then stopping. We called guest services and in less than 15 minutes someone was there to look at it.Seems water had got into the line and a technician would only to be able to fix it in the morning. We told them we would unplug it for the evening and plug it back in upon rising.

We went for dinner and then on our way back to our room we asked at guest services if it was possible to get some bottles of juice put in our fridge. At this time we were informed that another bottled of champagne had been sent to our room for the phone inconvenience. We just started laughing, we had received a bottle at the SJC and had brought it with us so we now had 3 bottles to consume!

We went to Ismays restaurant twice during our stay and loved it! I had the paupiette of flying fish stuffed with crab and chardonnay cream sauce on our second dinner there, it was delicious! It was the Friday night and the steelband that played that evening was wonderful.

We enjoyed our quiet relaxing week. The staff was wonderful from housekeeping to the watersports staff( Hi Meiko!!)

We could not have asked for a better honeymoon week...

Spent 10 nights at Galley Bay from the 12 April 08 and it was wonderful. We had booked a premium deluxe room which had everything required and very comfortable.
We were very lucky in that the weather was lovely and for the most part the sea remained calm although you did have to time your exit and entrance from the sea due to a pull of the waves but it added to the fun.
Esme, the 3rd restaurant opened a few nights before we got there and although not especially to our taste quite a few of the guests preferred it to the other two restaurants. Maybe we picked the wrong dishes, The Sea-Grape and the Gaugin restaurants were excellent as were all the staff - continuously courteous and friendly, throughout the hotel.
Housekeeping was very good and everywhere is kept clean and tidy.On one occasion we had a problem with the toilet in our room, we telephoned reception and within 10 minutes a member of staff appeared to fix the problem.

Myself and my husband have just come back from a very relaxing (it was badly needed after a week running around Disney) and wonderful stay at Galley Bay.

We stayed in the Gaugin Cottages which are really quirky. You have two cottages, one is the bedroom and one is your bathroom. They are secluded so know one can see you moving between the two. They also have their own splash pool which was great. You have the option of lying by the sea, pool or by your very own pool which was gorgeous in the mornings.

One thing with the cottages is the noise at night from the different animals, you get used to it pretty quick otherwise you might need earplugs! If you are in the apartments you have the noise of the sea.

There are three restaurants all of which serve a la carte - fantastic food with a menu that changes daily. We never got as far as dessert as we couldn't manage it after the starter and mains.

The evening entertainment is fantastic especially on the Friday night. Its worth staying up every night to have a listen to all the different bands.

Most of the staff are really friendly with lots of lovely smiles.

The hotel is pretty secluded so there is nothing outside of the hotel. We never got bored but there are lots of trips you can do.

We would definitely recommend this hotel (like it was to us) to anyone (no good for kids).

If you have booked or looking to book go, its great and watch out for Giorgio!

If you are going with Virgin Holidays, they come to your hotel the morning you leave to check you in, give you your boarding pass and take your luggage, it was great. You are only then at the airport for an hour and half before your flight. Watch out for the airport though, its not very big and gets very busy so going through security can take some time.

“Simply the best”

Our fourth visit and we plan to go back again later in the year. Just gets better and better - most of the previous reviews say it all so I won't bother repeating the good bits. Ignore any negative comments as they simply cannot be true (or if they are true they are one offs or not worth worrying about). We just love Galley Bay and all the staff, the service, the food, the restaurants (the new Ismay's is excellent), everything - cannot fault it at all. The only downside was tearing ourselves away to come home.

“Fab, Fab, Fab”

We have just got back from a fantastic two weeks at Galley Bay and we can say that we are the FIRST to report that the new restaurant is OPEN

There are now three restaurants at Galley Bay serving food a la carte. The Seagrape is the main restaurant which serves fantastic food. The menu changes regularly, the service is first class and the live music each night is fantastic.

The other two restaurants are the Gauguin and Ismays. The Gauguin consists of separate tables with little huts over each table looking out to sea. You can have a continental breakfast, lunch and dinner here. The menu does not change but believe me it does not need to. One night it absolutely poured with rain and we did not get wet - needless to say the waitresses had to run between tables with umbrellas - great stuff!!!

Ismays is the new restaurant which I would describe as colonial in design. It is on the opposite side of the resort to the Gauguin and again the food is great.

You do not need to book to eat at the Sea Grape but you do to go to the other resaurants. The reason for this is to save disappointment because the walk from the bar is about 5 minutes. When you go to breakfast you pop in at reception and book your table - there are two sittings one at 6.45pm and one at 8.30pm. We ate principally at these two restaurants and we never had a problem booking.

Wine served with your meals is either pinot grigio, pinot noir, cabernet sauvignon or merlot. The wines were fab and there was never any need to BUY any wine.

The bar always served premium brand drinks and cocktails and were never short on measures. You can also have champagne by the glass.

We stayed at one of the Gauguin cottages - how fab was that. Having your own plunge pool! No problem going between bedroom and bathroom. Plenty of beds on the beach to get (which was a worry that I had before we arrived).

The staff are unbelievably attentive and remember everything. On the second or third day I had the chefs salad at the Sea Grape restaurant for lunch but asked for no egg as egg on its own disagrees with me. About four days later we were at the Gauguin restaurant for dinner and they took my order. Two minutes later the waitress ran to my table saying that I would have to order another starter because there was egg in the one I ordered and they understood that I had a problem with egg - where in the world would you get that service?

Reading other reviews I would remind all of you that you are going to the Caribbean - there are mosquitos, various crawling flying insects and mongeese - but believe me most of them are more frightened of you than you are of them - including Burt the huge cockroach in our bathroom who eventually lost its battle against my flip flop. We got bitten once or twice - just remember to spray yourself in the evenings - we used Jungle Spray with Deet. Also the staff leave large cans of insect repellants so that you can spray them. You will find that when your bed is turned down at night you can smell that the staff have already sprayed before you return to your room!

The dress code is very strict and no jeans, shorts are allowed in the evening. Ladies I did where my fancy flip flops and guys most men were wearing smart sandals with long trousers. One person turned up to lunch with no shoes and was turned away. To be formal/casual is what you make it - hubbie wore linen most of the time I wore skirt, dress and nice tops etc.

This is a place for chilling - nothing is too much bother but remember sometimes things are done in 'Carribean time' not 'central London 2 minutes to spare time' - enjoy!
