Just returned from our first visit to Antigua and our first stay at Galley Bay. It's lovely, from the moment you arrive, greeted by a smile and a rum punch to the moment you leave, reluctantly. Our room was beachfront and a nice walk from the restaurants. Groundskeepers even went the extra mile to sweep the sand at our door several times a day. The room was simply and beautifully furnished and decorated. Minibar stocked with your personal favorites upon request. Extraordinary housekeeping.. We rented a car and explored the wonderful island, glad to come "home" that evening to a wonderful meal. Our dinners were beautifully presented and delicious. The barbecue on Thursday night was too good to describe. The smells alone were intoxicating...roast pig, ribs, and steaks with all the fixings. We made friends easily and enjoyed dinner with them. You'll see so many people sharing greetings with familiar faces because so many folks return year after year after year. Bands each night. Friday's was spectacular. Mind you, the Galley Bay is a peaceful place for adults only, and many older people come to enjoy that tranquility, but this band had everyone from 86 and under dancing under the stars and loving it. I'd go again as soon as I do the laundry.(: We really enjoyed every aspect of Galley Bay.

  • Liked — blue water within steps, wonderful staff, spa, warmth and beauty of the people
  • Disliked — I really can't think of thing to mention.

We have just returned from Galley Bay (24 hours ago) and just had to write a review. You really have to visit to get the GAlley Bay experience. Hello to Mike Heather Natasha Nola Kerry Tina Nquimbau and all the other fantastic staff, nothing is too much trouble for any body. The reviewer who said too many eggs, open your mouth to the staff be nice, kind polite and you can have anything you want for breakfast. We saw one englishman having kippers for breakfast that the hotel got especially for him. You dont have to stick to the menu, we had baked beans(heinz) one day with our brekkie.
The atmosphere of the true carribbean is at Galley Bay, you can be a couple for the whole holiday, you can mix with other guests you can really do what you want when you want. We stayed in Premium beachfront Suite, if you are looking for 5* compared to Ritz Carlton hotels dont expect that, but perfectly adequte for the resort of Galley bay, the rooms are large, the bathrooms are large, large bath, his and her showers, so many towels you cant use them all in one day!! Minibar, beer coke sprite water topped up daily, if not enough for you, pick the phone up and they will bring what you want. Our telly and fan didn't work when we arrived, but was mended and repalced within 24hrs, no problem, no pressure!!!
We stayed for 14 days, we could have stayed another 14, just remember to chill out, no need to have any pressure at all. We have a very busy working, and family lives and this was the medicine that we needed. Chilled out the 1st time we opened the patio doors and saw 2 sunbeds 3 yards away and the sea 10 yards away.
We were worried about some of the comments on Trip advisor, but in reality these people could not have stayed at the same Galley Bay we stayed in.Yes the waves can be noisy, don't go to a beach resort if you don't want to hear the sea, but at the same time they were great to swim in, we swam everday , no jelly fish when we were there. Sand flies were a pain in the [----]that is not the hotels fault, dont go to the carribbean if you don't want to get bitten!!! Accept it for what it is, it is 5* caribbean, not in the same way as Sandy Lane Barbados, but in a totally different way. Our advice is BOOK NOW!!!!!
Hello to all the guests we met, and a special hello to our snorkel teachers Chris and Mike- Thank you. To the management and staff, thank you so much for a great holiday you all enjoy your jobs which makes Galley Bay so special. As Arnie says "I'll be back"

Having never been to the real Caribbean before, I exclude the Bahamas from this category, we looked long and hard for the right hotel...having heard stories of lacksadaisical attitudes, average food..blah, blah.
Taking our cue from the rating given by Trip Advisor reviewers, we booked 12 nights at Galley Bay.
Result:
Excellent. We moved up from the basic room the 2nd night, that room being right on the sea and noisy, and had a superb De-Luxe room. The staff are EXCELLENT, friendly and very helpful, so much smiling going on my face ached! Restaurants, both, were great places to eat, no standard buffets here! Service excellent again. The island itself diesn't have TOO much going on and places to see, but the spirit of the people, the weather, and the Hotel itself, made a wonderful holiday.
Any minuses? Well, Galley Bay states no kids.....i'm not surprised, and I think the real reason is that the sea can be rough for many days, making beach swimming except for the best, impossible...therefore no good for kids anyway! The pool being the size it is, with kids unable to swim in the sea, it would be impossible!
Accept that you might not be able to swim every day at the beach, and your holiday will be perfect!
Oh..and the sand flies.......hardly bothered us at all...

What a fantastic place for a honeymoon! no children are admitted, the beach was practically empty and all to us... the food is absolutely superb... the staff was top class. the beachfront rooms didn't seem fantastic on the website, but instead it was fantastic to be right on the beach.
there are different choices of places to eat and different menus... there are many things to do but all we did in nine days was sunbathe!
the pool is wonderful and the ocean is a good mix between shallow / deep water and there are a few rocks for good snorkeling.

Just arrived back from a most relaxing week at the Galley Bay Resort. From the moment we arrived to the time we left we were superbly looked after by the extremely friendly staff.
We stayed in a premium beachfront suite. These rooms are quite new (built in 2007 we were told) and sit right on the beach. Fantastic outlook. The room was top quality.
There is a third restaurant almost ready to open which will add to the choice, although the food is already very good. The restaurant staff are very obliging and at any time they will prepare your choice of meal even if it is not on the menu.
We thought that the hotel is a really nice mix of luxury with a relaxed Caribbean feel, and we will certainly go back.
