We have just returned from Sandals Grande Antigua and had the most wonderful holiday. We are returning guests and were really treated like royalty. Our room, one the Honeymoon Oceanview Suites with Butler was gorgeous, just steps away from the white sandy beach.
The pool on the Med side is where most people gather during the day and I have to say that this year there was an awful lot of beds being reserved very early in the morning, people throwing other guests property off beds that had been reserved and claiming them for themselves and even taking the beds reserved by Butlers. If you don’t pay the extra for a Butler and the perks that they can give, don’t take it out on those that do pay for them. Admittedly the resort was full to capacity but why do people have to be so greedy and selfish that they take or disregard other people’s property. Fortunately for us we had a cabana, however that also didn’t stop some people coming in and taking the beds belonging to the cabana on a couple of occasions (some people would steal the nose off your face if they thought they would get away with it). The swim up bar is good fun with Gavin and Althea brilliant cocktail blenders, wicked spicy Bloody Marys.
We tried all the restaurants and loved them all, especially OK Corral, Nigel, the chef cooks the best ribs ever. Eleanor’s was another favourite with its excellent Caribbean menu. Stacey the restaurant manager is so helpful and works very hard to ensure you have a fabulous meal, the lobster is exquisite. Mario’s is a lovely Italian restaurant with a really good menu and lovely ambience. Kimonos Japanese restaurant is great fun and gives you an opportunity to meet other guests and there is one chef cooking for a table of 10 guests. The Pizza restaurant is great and Claudine who works there is one of the most customer committed people I have ever met, when she helps out on cabana duty she is constantly checking you have everything you need. Beach BBQ is good fun and the food mouth watering. The only disappointment for us was that there was no ice-cream stand this year.
Without a doubt having a Butler is the way to go, Wendel and Julian were brilliant, both couldn’t do enough for us and were always surprising us with little snacks or running a romantic bubble bath and even having champagne on ice waiting for our return of an evening, we loved the two of them. The Butler Manager Sandeep was also extremely helpful and went out of his way to ensure we had everything we required.
The Signature Guest dinner was, as always very enjoyable, I think SAG puts a lot more effort into this occasion than some of the other resorts we have been too. Theresianne in the Sales office joined our table and was very mindful that everyone had a good time; she is always so helpful and dedicated to her guests.
Nightlife – Traditional night was very entertaining, as was Karaoke in the pub, however I think some of the entertainment is a little tired now i.e. Couples game etc. I would like to maybe see a Quiz Night in the pub and a return of the fabulous Soul band that used to play outside Cricketers a couple of nights a week or maybe some “swing”. Having said that it is still enjoyable and quite honestly you don’t want many late nights.
With regard to the mosquito sprayers, this is a great help to those who would otherwise get eaten alive by the little monsters. The Resort guide in you room does warn you of the spray being carried out so everyone should be aware of the process and it only actually takes a few minutes.
Finally I would recommend this resort to anyone, it really is very pretty and guarantees and wonderfully relaxing holiday, in my opinion it is hard to beat and we shall certainly be returning.
Sorry for the lengthy review, but hopefully someone will find it helpful
