We stayed at Sandals for our weddingmoon (9 days) and absolutely enjoyed it!! Don't listen to the bad reviews - maybe those people need holidays from their holidays...
We were warmly welcomed with steel drum music, cold towels and sparkling wine and within 15 minutes we were at our room -we were located in the green Poinsetta-building just a step from the wonderful white beach. Ok - we backed to the constuction-site but we never heard a thing. I think the big construction is almost done- maybe the new village opens in late summer.

FOOD:
Excellent! We tried every restaurant and we never had a thing to complain. We had our own waiter/waitress every evening and they were ALL very courteous. Also no problem with the reservations in Kimonos, Il Palio and OK Corral.

DRINKS & BAR:
We tasted the BEST cocktails. The standard of the drinks is very high. I never tasted a drink that was watered down - just the opposite ;-)

STAFF/LOCALS:
Very friendly, always a smile on their lips. It was very nice chatting with the locals. We had also no problems with the beach vendors - a friendly "no thank you" does the thing.

BEACH & GROUND:
VERY well kept - the gardeners are always working and the beach is cleaned every morning. We had the pleasure of a huge beach party on Dickenson Bay - it was the start of the famous Sailing Week on Antigua - one day - lots of people, good food and drinks (tried Rum Punch...). On the next day all sailing boats were gone and the beach was cleaned up and white like before.

WEDDING:
It was just what we imagined - very romantic... (we chose the beach gazebo) The wedding staff took care of everything - you just had to put on our wedding clothes and say: I do. Very stressless and the photographer (thanks to Marianne) takes wonderful kitschy pictures. Tip: Take the smallest package (6 printouts I think) and take the CD (all photos - about 150 on it) instead - you can print them out at home much cheaper.
Thank God we found our perfect witnesses among the Resort-guests - thanks again to Kristen and Dan.
The only bad thing was: We had a special dinner for 2 at our wedding gazebo on our wedding day (I think for about 200 Dollars) and we had to choose from the same menu they had at Bayside restaurant for free...

DIVING:
We are certified divers and we had so much fun at our dives!! The diving staff (especially Delia, Dean, Lissy and John) was very professional and do always help. And it's no problem if you are beginner-you'll absolutely enjoy diving here.

PEOPLE:
You get to know other guests very easily. Most guests are from the USA or the UK (we are Austrians - very rare at Sandals ;-)) and they were all very nice. We are still in e-mail contact with some couples.

MOSQUITOS:
They bite - bring insect repellent!

All in all we had a FANTASTIC holiday. If there's a question left - feel free to contakt me.

My wife and I chose Sandals Antigua for our honeymoon because (according to Sandals) it's the number one rated resort for romance. Bah humbug! Certainly at the price we paid we expected world-class romance and great food. What we got was an old room and mediocre food. What we were paying for, we found, was unlimited free booze for lots and lots of people who liked to drink (and smoke) far more than we do. Strongly recommend you give Sandals a miss -- unless you like to start drinking at 10:30 a.m., and enjoy hanging around others who do. And who smoke. A lot. Oh, the resort itself literally smoked -- every day around 5:00 or so they sent this poor man around in a gas mask who fumagated the whole place (bugs must be bad there), filling the air with smoke and lending the place a decided post-apocolypitc sensiblity. A major disappointment. We'll never go back. (Plus, the diving sucked -- they took us to an all but dead reef -- but by now you get the idea...)

Sandals Antigua is definitely not a 5-star resort.

Food: Food is ok. Breakfast and lunch buffets are adequate. two or three cats roam the bayside restaurant which in my opnion is completely unhygienic and would not be allowed in the UK.

Drinks: All cocktails are watered down. You will struggle to taste the alcohol and you will find much better cocktails in the 'The beach' bar further down Dickenson bay.

Rooms: We were 'upgraded' from a newly refurbished deluxe room to a grande luxe room ovelooking a small pool. The room was worn and tired with dirty carpets and the bathroom was terrible. Black mould all over the grouting in the tiles. Overall the room was a 3.5 star max.

Beach & gardens: Absoultely beautiful.

We arrived after our flight was delayed at 9pm. We were greeted in the lobby with champagne. After 5 minutes they came with our room key and led us to our room. They did not let us carry our bags anywhere, someone was always there to do it for us. The Honeymoom veranda suite with concierge service was amazing. In room fridge with beer, liquor, wine, champagne that was restocked every day. The entertainment team were really nice and friendly if you participate they definitely take care of you. The beach was beautiful, towel/chair service for you. The water was clear to the bottom. The only thing we did not like about the beach was all of the Islanders trying to get you to buy stuff. The restaurants were top notch. Kimono's the Japanese steakhouse was by far the best. Ask for Sugar to be your chef. iL Palio the italian place was very good. There was always food when you needed it, a late night snack bar was open from 11pm to 7am where you get could a burger or sandwich. The bar was great, bartenders were nice and always gave you what you wanted. The pool bar was very fun to hang out at and relax while having great access to drinks. Betty Jo's Boat Yard the night club was never crowded and always was playing the latest music. The piano bar was my favorite just a chill place to hang out and listen to the guy play the piano and sing along. All in all it was a great resort to go to definitely ask to talk to Franklyn and he will take care of you
