My Fiance and I stayed at Sandals Antigua May 15-22 and could not have asked for a more beautiful resort!

We were greeted as others mentioned with moist towels and champagne with an exceptionally delightful staff. Our room was upgraded from the garden room to suite 304. There is construction going on and I do recommend that you confirm that your room (even the upgrade) is not near the area.

There is also a promotional email that Sandals will send you about 1 month before your trip with a "deal" to upgrade: BECAREFUL however that you don't upgrade near the construction site AND usually they upgrade you for free when you get there anyways so you might not want to spend the extra $$ beforehand.

We LOVED the breakfast buffet at the Bayside, and dinner there was also amazing.

The other restaurants are all very good and for the people on here who say otherwise, remember that everyone has different taste buds and it will be up to you to decide so don't let them discourage you!!

The beach is absolutely amazing and pristine. The water is so refreshing and so clear, as well as the sand very clean and white. The beach is NOT crowded and there are a few vendors but they are polite and walk away with a 'No Thanks' (however, I bought some very cute necklaces for $5)!

There's always something going on, whether it's a BBQ or fire-dancers, etc., but our favorite thing was getting a little tipsy at the piano bar -- so much fun!!

And YES, while we did see TWO big ugly flying roaches outside one night (out of 6 nights I might add) remember that you are in the Caribbean and this is the natural habitat for these critters and NO there were absolutely none in the restaurants or in our rooms whatsoever. The property is well maintained and not dirty, or "bug-ridden" as someone said on here.

**Most importantly, we believe that this vacation and any vacation is what you make of it: If you're looking for things to complain about, you'll eventually find them. But if you just want to go, have fun, relax, and be in an ultra-romantic environment with your loved one, THIS IS THE PLACE TO GO!!!

-Christine

p.s. We also recommend the Eco-Tour (book early!) and Banana Sip-Sops....you'll see what those are when you get there!!!

Went to Sandals for my honeymoon and it was the worst expierence I have ever had. Room was not eh one I booked and it overlooked a broken jacuzzi. There was roaches in my room and this made me want to leave. After 3 days they gave us another room with a broken sink, toilet, and no cold water so my wife and I got to burn at shower time. They offered us another room just to take a shower. Horrible right. Then we had to call 4 times to have ewverything fixed inclding our broken air conditioner. They did nopt want to credit me for phone calls made to my travel agent and did not want to send me the free china that they promised us. Had to fight for 4 months to get it. Food was not good at all and there are giant roaches all ove rthe resort including the restaurants. The town was like a ghetto at night and people constanly bother you to buy things. Sandals would not give us no credit at all. Also the entertainment is horrible. None at all and after 11 pm it is a ghost town. Over all I would never ever go back or recommend this resort. Been all over the world and this was by far the worst place. The resort does not look like the pictures at all. Feel free to contact me. goodfella51878@hotmail.com

August 5-12 Vacation to Sandals was everything my husband and I had hoped it would be. The staff was great and food was good which included a good variety. We got upgraded to a Deluxe room in the Flamboyant Building which has a nice pool and it is very quiet at the south end. The place is more compact then we thought so it is very easy to get around and everything is close by. We really enjoyed the sailing and spent a lot of time practicing on the Hobie and Sunfish they had available. We would definitely go back but will have the urge to try other Sandals locations as well. The week was a great way to get away from work and unwind as it was truly relaxing. Thanks Sandals!

  • Liked — location, great beach, spacious room with fridge & drinks was a plus
  • Disliked — not enough help in checking baggage at airport when leaving country - too slow

Just returned from wonderful week at sandals in Antigua. The atmosphere was relaxed and friendly with the staff falling over themselves to accomodate us. There is a choice of 5 restaurants, our favourite was Kimonos japenese which was a delight with great chef and ample food cooked before you. We were upgraded from Deluxe to Grand Deluxe, our initial thoughts were that of slight dissapointment as the decor is a little tired, but after a day or so we hardly noticed. Our block had its own swimming pool and hot tub which was very clean and maintained daily. The entertainment was fine, typical Carribean lots of reggae and bands and some local festival shows. We enjoyed the jet skis and Hobie Cats, the latter included in the price of the holiday. There is some major building work going on in preparation for the new sandals med village but we were not bothered in the slighest by noise or dust. The only draw back were the mosquitoes which are very prevalent at this time of year, and despite room plug ins and spray they had a feast on us both, and most of the other guests!
The beaches were spotless and the water like a bath. It truly is a lovely place to go and we would have no hesitation in going there again.

Just got back and for the money we paid we were totally disappointed from the moment we drove up. We've been to a number of the islands over the years and even another Sandals and this particular resort is simply not worth the money. The resort needs physical repairs all over plus just a good simple cleaning. Every where you walked around you saw something that needed to be addressed that you shouldn't have to deal with for a resort of this so called quality. We thought we'd be safe with a Sandals but they sure got one over on us with this place.
All I can say about our room is that it wasn't dirty, after that there wasn't much you could say about it and we upgraded to an expensive location. It was old, run down, hot, and I was totally disgusted that this is what they consider upscale.
The food was fair at best and some times just not what you would expect. I don't believe I went in with unfair expectations but you'll be disappointed with this also. It's common buffet style food at best no matter where you ate at the resort.
The staff ranged from super and friendly to totally put out with having to deal with you. I don't know where the managers were but they need to walk around a little more and see what's going on. I can deal with the physical details and made the best of it, but I was a little more disturbed by a good number of the staff. I'm not demanding and pretty easy to get along with I believe, but it just is not the way you should deal with customers.
Do your self a favor and look some where else other than this place, you will be disappointed especially if this is your honeymoon vacation. We spoke to a number of guests that felt the same way, and even chartered a boat for a day that was not affiliated with the Sandals tours and they even said they 've heard similar complaints from their customers. It's not just us.
