My wife and I stayed at Sandals Antigua the week of 2/14/05.

Upon arrival at the airport, we were promptly greeted by a Sandals representative whom was very courteous, and informative, assisting us with our baggage and transportation to the resort. Following a brief 5-10min. wait the Sandals shuttle arrived and off we went to the property.

Upon Arrival, We were greeted by a Sandals employee whom again asisted with our baggage and offered us beverages of our choice while we completed our Check-in paper-work. Following the check-in process, we were escorted to our Upgraded room. The bell man handeled baggage delivery directly. The room was clean, comfortable, and well suited. After all, we simply planned to sleep and shower there, nonetheless, very nice accomodations and well kept. Air conditioner worked well, No insects.

The Sandals property was immaculate. Employees were constantly cleaning and caring for the landscape, facilities, and beach. All pools were clean and had plenty og lounge chairs available for all. No need to reserve or Hold a chair. The beach was also very clean with lots of local art vendors selling a variety of hand made goods. If you're not intersted, a simple No Thank-you was all it took and they moved on. Inclusive activities include Sailing, water-skiing, Scuba, Snorkeling, Dry beach games available at the activities desk, Too many to list.

The restaurants were Great, Wide selection, Good service.
Easy to make reservations at any of the three specialty restaurants (Kimonos/Japanese, OK Corral/Steak-house, Italian, Name ?). Ask for
Dr. Love at Kimonos, You're sure to have a great time.
The breakfast buffet was outstanding with a wide variety of choices including made to order omelets. The court-yard grill offered light snacks at any time of day. Chicken sandwiches, nachos, Hot wings, hamburgers, etc.

Bar Service: Premium liquors always available / well stocked. the local beer on tap is Wadadli- a light pilsner beer, Just OK. Red Stripe was available in the bottle if you willing to wait patiently "island Time"...

The Night-life - Somewhat Quiet, Many options offered including Dance/Disco club, Nightly court-yard bands, Piano bar.

The tour desk was very helpful. Basically, anything you wanted to do is available from horseback riding to shopping, to a variety of island safari adventures/eco tours, sunset cruises, and many more !

The Check-out process went very smooth and well organized. All baggage was handled promptly. Infact, I never once handled a single bag during my entire visit.

In Conclusion... A vacation is what you make of it, Relax and Enjoy !!

My husband and I could not have been happier. Ate when we wanted to, jacuzzied in the evening alone when all the other guests were hitting the piano bar. There were things to do when you wanted to do them and not just on their schedule. We were upgraded to the rodavals in the garden. There was a termite problem in our original room. Please remember that this is the caribbean where it is humid, warm and plenty of salty air to create unforseen problems. The food was very good and there were many varieties. We still keep talking about our trip after 2 years.

Couldn't agree more with the previous review, we stayed at this resort for 8 days in September 2004 and got married there. The moment we arrived at the resort we were also allowed to leisurely sit and drink champagne while our luggage was taken to our room (one of the rondovals set in the garden area). The grounds were really well kept and they were a pleasure to walk through. I preferred having the rondoval away from the beach, as those that were on the beach front tended to have sunbathers right outside their windows every day. I really worried about the fact that we had chosen to get married there after reading some of the reviews on here but we could not have picked a more perfect location. The wedding team worked really hard to make sure that everything runs smoothly and to ensure that your holiday isn't taken up too much with wedding plans. We booked a steelband to play at the wedding and they were great fun! The photographers were also great and we have so many beautiful photos that captured our special day.
As with the previous review, Gavin the bar tender in the piano bar was fantastic, really friendly and he made us feel really welcome. we never experienced any hostile staff, they were always polite and efficient. In fact, the morning of the wedding, we woke to find a flood in the bathroom, I phoned the concierge and they arrived within 10 minutes and sorted the problem straight away.
The restaurant choice is also really good. We liked all of the restaurants and found a great choice of food was on offer (even in the snack bar that is open all night!!).
We definitely want to return someday!
If anyone has any concerns about thsi resort then you are very welcome to email me!

My partner and i have just returned from sandals antigua ( March 2005) Like alot of people we were worrid about what we would be met with on arrival with reading such dreadful reviews before we left home.
We were staying in the Ixoria block honeymoon suites ,which i d say were smaller than i expected but fine , the bathroom would,ve benefitted from a overhall but it was ok.
The room was kept extremely clean , and linen replaced as often as you wished .
The resturants were good ,no not 5* but what we expected having stayed in the caribbean a few times before , my only moan was the Italian which im sure were microwaving pasta dishes which isn't nice.
Staff were all friendly ,a couple of times one or two seemed tired , which i can understand when working in the heat like they do .
Steve my partner completed his PADI dive cert while out there with the help of Mercedes and the watersports guys .Not free but still good value .

A must do is the Eco trip with Eli ,you get to see places and learn about the island and its wild life ,we even saw some whales ,a great day.
We were disappointed by the sunday night at shirley heights ,it's hyped up to be more than it is ,which is a' tourist fest ' to see a sunset .
Well overall the holiday was great , im sure its what you make it ,and those that moan must be expecting something other than a great resort in a great location on a beautiful island .

A Five Star Dump

I really wished I had read some of the reviews on this dump before we booked a £500 a day 'delux beach cottage' which would be better described as a shed on the beach. The luxury marble clad bathroom was more akin to a shower room in a public gym, horrible, horrible, horrible. Bed linen was worn and uncomfortable and the decor and furniture was worn out and 'sticky'. Service was spasmodic from quite good to just rude and disinterested. The food was very poor and certainly not the five gourmet restaurants we were led to believe exists there. Free drinks yes, but I think watered down and the wine was undrinkable. We ate out a lot. Entertainment was laughable except for one steel orchestra. There is no sophistication at all. We went with Virgin Holidays and the rep was completely disinterested and despite soothing noises about moving us to another five star hotel, disappeared into the ether and we didn't see her again.
How this hotel ever got a five star rating is beyond me! I would rate it tops three star - yes the beach is beautiful, but it is a public beach and free to use. In my opinion, do not be beguiled by the glossy, colour enhanced brochure and its lies, this is a 'five star dump' and does not deserve to be recommended. Don't waste your money. Go to Butlins at Bognor for a similar stay (except for the weather of course).
