We stayed here from 8th Nov 2008 until 22nd Nov 2008.
This is not our first stay with Sandals but our first time to Sandals Antigua. It's very difficult not to compare all the resorts but this resort falls short of the standards of Negril and Whitehouse.

Rooms - We were upgraded to a honeymoon luxury concierge suite on arrival which we were grateful for. This was situated in the carribean village. After reading so many poor reviews on the carribean side we were worried. The room was located in the Anthurium Building. The room was large, clean and had a stocked mini bar. The room was kept clean throughout our trip however the bathroom could have done with some updating. Do remember to keep your doors closed at all times though because the resort is full of mosquitos who will eat you alive. We had our room sprayed several times and came back to a room full of dead cochroaches!! We were also invaded by ants!! Any maintenance issues were resolved within minutes!!

Restaurants - Kimonos is a fun place to eat and meet other guests as you all sit together around a grill (10 people). The food quality and service is good.
OK corral - Food is ok and service is reasonable.
Marios - The food is generally ok and service is hit and miss depending if the manager is there supervising or not. Our last night we ate there and were ignored for 25 minutes before we were even offered a glass of water!! Our starter arrived after an hour!! maybe they were just having a bad night but lots of people were complaining ( the usual manager wasn't there that night)
Bayside - don't eat the buffet here in the morning or lunchtime (go to marios). We sat by the buffet several days and watched the birds eating, walking and doing what birds do on all the food on the buffet table. The staff did nothing about this. (Big health risk). The evening is a different matter with good service and ok food. A special note goes to a waitress by the name of Coron - if you get her serving you you'll have a great night as she is a very good waitress!!!!
Barefoot - the service and food here is fine - it's a snack/ fast food restaurant in the day - A' la carte seafood at night.
Cricketers - don't bother eating there in the evening - there are far better places.
Eleanors - superb service, good food. the manager Jason runs a very tight ship here and it shows with the good quality of service!!! It's Carribean food, but if you're not sure about sauces etc they'll put them on the side.
Pizzeria - there were only 10 tables available and the waiters are extremely slow, but they were addressing this and increasing the size at the end of our stay.
The resort lacks a proper A' la carte option for lunch and relies on buffet's and snack food. i found this dissapointing compared to other resorts as i pay the extra money at Sandals to avoid buffets.
Make sure you make reservations early - they start on thursday afternoon - and you can reserve the whole week in advance - you won't be dissapointed that way.
There are plenty of pools around the resort however people reserve sunbeds very early in the morning with towels and sometimes don't even use them. We prefered the Carribean swim up pool bar which is more lively and had volleyball - aerobics etc. There are quieter pools elsewhere.
Drinks are definitely not watered down and they'll give you whatever you want (if they've got it).
The evening entertainment is good here - lots of different shows - check out the Scottish magician - very good!
The tours here are quite expensive and limited as it a small island ( thats to be expected - it's Antigua). We did a circum-navigation catamaran trip with Wadadli Cats. it's a good tour and the company is very proffessional - however it's very long - 8 hours in the sun!!! so bring sunblock - lots of it
The gym is quite well equipped for those who like to exercise.

On the whole the resort is very average for the price you are paying. We had a good time but some of the other Sandals resorts are far better when it comes to service and food quality as this area really lets them down at Antigua.

I hope we haven't made it sound too bad. We just feel that the other Sandals resorts were far better - and in most cases cheaper! If you've already booked - don't panic - you'll still have a great time. it's what you make of it.

I went to Sandals Antiqua for our honeymoon this past April. It was horrible. They constantly run out of certain kinds of food so you are limited to the less appealing things constantly. That happended multiple times and gets annoying really quick. Sandals advertised the honeymoon package where you get a bottle of champagne, flowers on the bed and breakfast in your bed in the morning. I qualified for it and made sure it was set before we went, but it was never provided. Also our hotel room had a problem with the window coverings. The windows were not completely covered and we were on the first floor so we could lay on the bed and watch everybody walk by our window. After several complints and being told they were overbooked we were moved to another room two days later. We constantly were told to wait in our room for people to show up to fix things and nobody ever showed up. Things fell through the cracks and management was clueless. The manager I talked to after they made me wait for 3 hours because the manager failed to contact us as we were told the previous days was clueless as he said he was new and didnt know what was going on. They comped us $300 dollars for our troubles which we could spend at the resort on anything the last 2 days we were there. We used it on the spa which was nice. Not sure why the honeymoon package was advertised to me and then not provided. I was even assured after talking to management that it would be taken care of before we left, but never was. I wrote two complaint letters to sandals and all the offered was two nights stay at a discounted rate only. No thanks but we wont be going to sandals ever again and we already turned all of our friends who have been getting married away as well. Nobody needs to put up with 1 star service. When your customers are teling what you are doing wrong and you cant fix your own problems that is just sad.

Me and my boyfriend stayed at the resort from November 5th - 12th on the med side and loved every relaxing minute. We had looked at some of the reviews before going and it had all been pretty mixed, as it is now. All i can say, it was pretty much only rich americans and normal english people. It depends on what you're used to, but if you've never been on a luxury holiday before you will be amazed by it, but stuck up people who have probably tasted luxury before have a standard set in mind so find the need to complain about the slightest issues they feel arent up to scratch. We didnt come for a honeymoon or anything special other than a lovely holiday.
To be honest, ive stayed in nice places before but at the same time i think a holiday is what you make it, and if all you can do is complain and make things sour then enjoy your time away. haha! im 20 yrs old and ive got pleanty more to come. But i know how to appreciate the things i get in life. Anyway, the idea of this rant is, don't listen to people who are stuck up, its a beautiful place with lots to do and its very romantic. enjoy

We have just returned from a one week stay in the carribean grove side. It was disgusting and a complete waste of hard earned money.

Check-in- waited 1 hour before being spoken to. Then taken to carribean grove like second class citizens as their pick up service had dropped us at the wrong resort entrance.

Room- dirty, old fashioned, moth eaten bed, chipped wall paper/paint and rust and mould on bath plug hole

Restaurants- poor. tinned corn beef hash, tinned mushrooms cold buffet food and even the waiter service food had to be sent back as it was cold. Staff rude and v v slow. All food seemed preprocessed our starters arrive literally a mintue after we had ordered so obviously not cooked to order.

Pool- had to reserve a lounger by 7am or all gone towels dirty. One main pool but others were tiny

Building work- the block next to ours was being renovated we had to walk by this everyday.

Consierge- RUDE and unhelpful nothing done for us despite us celebrating our honeymoon and my husbands birthday.

I would never go to another sandals again it was worse that a butlins holiday camp!

After we booked Sandals Antigua I read a bunch of horrible reviews on Trip Advisor. We booked a room on the Caribbean side of the resort. My husband was able to get us an upgrade to the Med side of the resort before we even got there because of the horrible reviews we read. If we did not get this upgrade I would have left.

Our stay was 11/8-11/15. We have stayed at many different islands in the Caribbean so I have much to compare this resort to.

1. Check-In:-They make you sit at a table and fill out information and then take you to your room about 1/2 an hour later without your luggage. They tell you the bell boy will bring your luggage. Well I recommend holding onto your luggage. We got to our room I wanted to change and go to the beach...we ended up waiting an hour in our room wasting time until we got our luggage.

2. The room: Since we were on the Med side of the resort the room was nice and updated with a plasma. I didn’t think it was that clean. If you get a room on the Caribbean side I recommend trying to get an upgrade. That side of the resort is very run down and it looks like a cheap motel. Really bad for a 4 star resort.

3. The pool: No chairs or towels by the pool. My husband got up early everyday to reserve chairs. It didn't matter because the butlers try to take them.

4. The Beach: I travel for beautiful beaches. This was the worst beach yet. Hardly a beach-maybe the storm took it away. Again, hard to find chairs. Vendors would walk up and down the beach...trying to get you to buy stuff and do water activities-they are not part of Sandals-and then they would ask customers at Sandals for a beer...it is a public beach so expect to get harassed.

5. The Food: For the most part I thought the food was pretty good. Make your reservations as soon as you get there.

6. The Service: Totally sucked unless you had a butler. There was no service.

7. The Entertainment: Horrible! Low-Budget! And there was nothing to do outside the resort.

My husband made the best of it! We will never return to another Sandals ever again. For the money we spent I had better service at place that didn't cost as much. We talked to people who had a butler and they said it was so not worth the money for this resort.

If you want a nice resort with TERRIFIC SERVICE go to Riviera Maya the Iberostar Grand Pariaso-Adults Only. Read reviews on that place-I bet you won’t find one negative thing!
