Just returned from a 1 week stay
We stayed on the CV side and unfortunately our room had not been refurbished yet. However, it was clean and everything worked. We spent very little time in the room so no big deal.
The CV side is very intimate and really has the island feel. The MV side is very modern, big and does not quite have the tropical feel. You could be staying in Miami beach. So really it depends what you would prefer.
The Food was very good particullarly Elinor's, Bayside and the Beachfront resaturant. The pizza hut was also excellent. However remember that you are placing a personal order and it is made from scratch so order it and go back to the pool and return in 30 mins it will be there.
The sushi bar was also decent but if you love sushi it will be a limited selection. You are at a resort and they import their fish. They can not meet the demand with the local fare.
Whenever we ate the local dishes - we had great meals.
The beach is stunning and 4 times as long as the one in St Lucia. It is public so there are more people on it then if it were only Sandals guests but it is far from crowded. Chairs are always available. There are vendors but you just have to say no thank you and they are gone
The pool chairs at the MV side are harder to get because of the selfish guest who reserve chairs on the MV side, the CV side as well as the beach and only use 1 of their choices. Same goes for towels. We always found a spot and took 2 towels on day 1 used only 1 and returned the next day with the unused one and took another for the next day so it worked well. There were people who took 4 adn 5 towels each - that's the problem. Hint: if you go to the CV pool and look in the chest they always have tons of towels as it is a smaller pool and most people hang an the MV. Also each CV complex has a private pool with towels. So you can take your towels from there.
The workout facility is great. We chose to get out of the sun at noon for an hr so it was the perfect time to work off a few drinks.
Watch for Sparkle and ask for the Sparkle Special shooter - tell her Betty sent you! Rosemary , Kizzy and Bubbles are also great hosts!
Lots of the previous reveiws complained about the service levels.
Antigua is more of a laid back people compared to St Lucia or Jamaica. However, if you treat them with respect and use your manners no problem. You are at a resort to relax and enjoy so give them a break. They are working hard trying to serve 600+ guest all wanting to be served immediately!!. Trust me you reap what you sow. Say please and thank you and introduce yourselve.
You would be surprised how many people were just donw right rude. Guest what, I got served almost instantly everytime and was called by name. There are those who will remain nameless who might have been ignored a tad but I was embarassed to be seen beside them because of their ignorant behavior.
Overall this was a wonderful experience. Comparing to Sandals Grande St Lucia it was slower and quieter but every bit a Sandals experience.
Any questions, do not hesitate to ask.
