“5th Time in Paradise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 17, 2012

As my title says this was our 5th time to SAG, we have never been people who go to the same place twice but this resort really contradicts our holiday routine. We love the place, the people, the resort, the food, the accommodation the Island and the climate. It is the one place where my husband can relax and chill the moment he arrives.

Our room was great, we had the wonderful Wendel and Cecil as our Butlers although poor Cecil became ill during our stay (hope all is well now) but his duties were covered by the very capable and brilliant Craig, thank you all of you for the way you looked after us, making sure we had everything we wanted, leaving treats in the room, preparing a luxury bath, bringing breakfast to the room everyday, making our restaurant reservations and the many other things you did to make our stay so perfect.

Being returning guests we attended the Sandals Select dinner on the Wednesday, which was as always a lovely evening, spectacular dinner, my only worry would be that these days there are more and more returning guests, I wonder how much longer the evening will stay in the same format before it gets too big to cope with.

There was unfortunately the usual problem of towels on sunbeds each morning but this was being addressed by the management and I personally saw Butlers removing towels from beds they had reserved for their guests if the guests hadn't shown up by 11am. As in previous years we had a cabana each day (a million thanks to Teresianne for all your help in getting us our favourite cabana and making the holiday so special) we just love it and were very well looked after by Faithlyn, Joelle, Kareem and Tiffany.

Restaurants - I have to say we were a little disappointed to see that the menu choices in the restaurants we visited seem to have been reduced, however, that said, we also agreed that the food quality had improved and we had really delicious meals in OK Coral (great ribs and steaks from the briiliant chefs and really looked after by Errol), Eleanors, Marios, Barefoot and The Cricketers pub (where you will get a really warm welcome from Violet). We didn't go to Kimonos or Bayside. We also loved the burgers from the Grab and Go in the Caribbean Grove, Cafe De Paris was delicious and the Pizza, as usual was fab.

I feel I'm harping on too much now but I really do think this resort is wonderful and can't say enough in its favour. I know not everybody is of the same opinion, but in my experience the management go out of their way to rectify any problems that may occur and genuinely care about their guests; a big thank you to Sandeep (Butler Manager) for always going the extra mile to ensure guest satisfaction and also grateful thanks to Donovan (SSG Manager) for his professionalism and help, popping round to see his guests regularly and always smiling, welcoming and happy.

What can I say, we love Sandals Grande Antigua and intend to go for our 6th time next year. I can confidently recommend a holiday here to anyone.

Room Tip: We avoided a Saturday arrival and had no problems in or out of the airport.

We landed at the airport and had quite the time trying to figure out which person was in charge of transportation to Sandals. Once we were taken to the property in a very old minivan down some terrible roads.... We arrived at paradise. A resort that is just beautiful in every way. The pool, the property, the restaurants, and the room were awesome. The sushi restaurant was our favorite and the OK Corral was our least favorite. The Italian restaurant was good and the buffet was also a hit. We met some folks from Mississippi and we all rented a car. We drove all over the island. This is a must to get some of the best views. Back to the hotel, our room was very comfy. The bed, tv, bathroom, and dresser were all high quality materials. We had a bottom floor unit that opened up in the garden via a very nice patio. The beach was gorgeous and we decided we would go snorkeling which was included in the resort fee. The ocean is clear but there is not much to see where the boat captain takes you. The resort is gorgeous and our trip was awesome due to friends we made. One big issue for us is the terrible beer selection. If you live on hard liquor you're good. If beer is your game, you could be in trouble.

Room Tip: They are all good

Simply amazing in every way. The wife and I went here on our honeymoon and we had an amazing time. The grounds are beautiful, the food is amazing and they make sure your drink is never empty. We were upgraded when we got there so that was a big plus as well. The pool was clean and never very crowded. If you can take advantage of the island tours, we went out for the whole day with an other couple and were able to see the entire island with a local guide, fantastic! The only draw back is the beach, don't get me wrong, it's beautiful. The problem is that it's not owned by the resort so it's crawling with drug dealers. This isn't Sandals fault though so I can't blame them for it. The dealers can get a bit pushy and annoying but I was never afraid of them or anything like that, just tell them to go away and you'll be fine. All and all this was an amazing place and I would stay again!

Room Tip: Don't be afraid to ask for an upgrade.

So...Sandals Antigua. Great hotel, great staff... nightmare mosquitos.

First of all the grounds are lovely, the food was better then most all inclusives and the pool and beach are fabulous.

We were in a butler suite and we thank you for that Sandals. The butler service was incredible we loved having our chairs ready for us in the morning with our cooler and towels prepared...very decadent indeed.Lots of nice touches throughout the stay including champagne and snacks, romantic candles and petal strewn baths...corny...but there you have it! Fun times!

The watersports team are fantastic and for you divers...spectacular. These guys had mad skills!

The only caution I would add is that for whatever reason there are tons of mosquitos in Antigua so please (I beg you) bring bug spray! The hotel actually ran out of calamine lotion when we were there so a lot of people were bitten and it can certainly add a damper on your vacation. This is NOT a resort problem, it is an island issue and could have been the time of year. The hotel did fog the property every night but it did not appear to be very effective.

I would highly recommend this property for it's service and food and the island has great weather.

So bring your spray, make sure you sure it and all will be well!

As a PS...the Antigua airport sucks. Nothing beyond the gates, extremely busy with massive lineups and not condusive to having a stress free goodbye...it was utter chaos!

We had our honeymoon in Antigua at the end of June into the beginning of July. Something was just missing, and I can't quite place my finger on what it was. Yes, the rooms were very clean and comfortable, the resort was immaculate and the food was good.
But, the beach was disappointing. The water was not as crystal blue as I had envisioned. I had read about the vendors prior to leaving and did not think I would be bothered by them. But, they were in fact very very pesky. They literally waited for you to step foot off the resort and would not leave you alone.

This was the second all inclusive we have traveled to. The first had been to Cancun and we constantly found ourselves comparing this experience to Cancun. The waits for some of the restaurants were very long, and it was very difficult to get reservations for the other restaurants. I suppose for the amount of money we paid, I expected something out of this world. Don't get me wrong, we did not have a bad time, but next time I would choose Mexico- for its better value, more culture, and STUNNING beaches.

We visited this resort for our honeymoon in January 2012 and we couldn't fault it! We were given a free room upgrade on arrival which meant we were central to the main bars and pools but it was still nice and quiet at night.

The food was fantastic and there was a huge variety every night. So much so that we had both put on weight by the time we came back home!

At our 'local' pool there was a great barmaid called Latoya who made the best cocktails in the resort. It was bliss sitting by the pool and chatting to her whilst she made her speciality the "chocolate monkey"!

The staff were all extremely helpful and polite and I would say without a doubt this was the best holiday we have ever been on!
