My husband, 2 children and I stayed at Halcyon Cove for 8 nights from February 21-March 2 and had a blast. We were disappointed in our room upon arrival-leaky air-conditioner and toilet. We stuck it out for one night, then insisted on being moved the next day. We were not only moved, but upgraded, and found the poolside room perfect. The property definitely needs an overhaul. Halcyon Cove is not the Ritz, but it's fine for what you pay. The food is all buffet and not gourmet, but is adequate and certainly varied enough for any appetite. (The french toast is outstanding!!) The staff (with a few exceptions and where don't you find that?) were very pleasant and helpful. My kids (6 and 8) made so many friends and were thrilled with the resort. These are pretty well travelled kids, but this was their first experience with an all-inclusive and they don't want to do anything but now. All the guests were friendly and we felt like family before we left. My kids loved the kids club and especially Hyacinth who runs it. It's pretty basic arts and crafts, but they wanted to go everyday. All in all I would recommend this property for families who aren't expecting luxury and realize they are getting a great deal!

We have been to the Carribean before and stayed 5 star at Sandals, this time we took our son and stayed at the Rex Halcyon, we had a fantastic time, room clean, staff great, drinks plentifull, what more could you ask for, if you want five star pay five star money and don't moan, People do moan but, hey ho your on holiday on the best carribean island what is there to moan about, you can please some of the people some of the time but you cant please all of the people all of the time. We loved it and we will return, the people are great and big up the Orlan who will make the best Omelettes, even at 6.45 when we were going fishing. (restaurant was shut). We chartered Overdraft twice as it was the only boat to reply to our Email before we left the UK, and what an experience, These people are great and make us want to live there,. Big up the Rex, big up Antigua and all the people we met, Karen & Tone, Sandy & Viv, from WALES, our fiends from Alabama with a banjo on their knees, and Gary and Val and Mad dog Micky the Marlin, we love you all. Love jane Rob & Georgey. enjoy the pictutures

We contacted the rex directly and got a great room rate, we paid for room only and are really glad we did. The hotel itself is a bit tired looking, although the room we had was fine. The location of the hotel is fantastic, you walk straight out onto the beach, and it is not on a crowded part of the beach so you didn't get many people walking past or any beach sellers. There are loads of places to eat out just a long the beach, all were pretty good. And St Johns itself has lots of places to eat. On a Sunday night I reccomend the Shirley Heights BBQ, the music and the atmosphere were what the caribbean is all about. And the view is spectacular. We did some snorkelling whilst we were there, and I'm sorry that I cannot remember the name of the boat, as the guy that ran it made us rum punches all the way out and back in again - what a character! I would have been gutted if I had paid top whack to stay AI here, but as we had such a good deal on the room, we were really pleased. The rooms were ok, location fantastic, loads of great places to eat and drink and the sun shone the whole time! Antugua is definately a favoutite of mine.

We stayed here using a timeshare for our 5th wedding anniversary for 7-days and loved it. We sat on the beach everyday and enjoyed the view, the beach and the water.

BUT, the food was VERY expensive if you did not buy the all-inclusive plan (which we did not) and there was not alot to choose from either. The pier restaurant was not included in the plan either. We chose to spend our money in town for the same price and had a much better time.

We mainly went here for the Scuba Diving which was FANTASIC thanks to Big John at Dive Antigua (he even picked us up personnally and became a good friend)

Other reviews I have to somewhat agree with: the hotel is out date (but very nice), the staff was helpful and the food was overrated and priced.

BUT, we would return.

We were somewhat disappointed in this place. Our room was clean but tired looking and the bathroom didn't please us. We saw a cute little cockroach wandering around on the floor our first night. There were rust stains on the sheets, although I do think the sheets were clean. The pool was nice, but we didn't like the beach at all. Broken tables, cigarettes in the sand, broken glass everywhere, and further up, just plain garbage in the sand. If you like nice long walks on the beach, don't choose this place; the beach is only about 1/4 mile long from end to end and we felt trapped! The staff were nice and we enjoyed having a fridge in our room (we went into town and bought groceries since the restaurants were so expensive, and their food not all that good) but we won't be coming to Halcyon Cove again.
