Have today returned from a fantastic holiday staying at rex halycon cove, Dickenson bay, we had a great time, i highly recommend the cocktails from the caribar and of course the Rum punch, please look out for Heather & Marissia as they are 2 of the best barmaids ever.Make sure you take plenty of insect repellent with you as the mozzies are very hungry at the moment.
The wadaddli cat trip was excellent, we went on the circum navigation which took us through some great Atlantic waves(so girls no hair straightening on that day) Look out for coconut Joe on the beach, he,s a real nice guy who will crack open a coconut add a bit of rum & fresh sugar cane for about 5 us dollars. Also the shell man (the tall guy i found had the nicer shells)The beaches are beautiful with lovely warm sea, a few vendors who like to chat, they are lovely people and a polite no thankyou and they are cool.
Hotel very nice, no problems in the 2wks we stayed, food very nice, room comfotable,so all in all a lovely holiday.
oh yes, the jeep trip canoeing down the mangroves is a great day out too so hope enjoy the trip

I booked this hotel 2 weeks before I left. I just needed to get away from New York and the real world for a few days ( 5 to be exact!). I got this hotel for 83$ U.S. per night and while its a great price I thought I was going to "get what I paid for". NO WAY! the service was FANtastic. everyone had a smile, said hello and offered help. the rooms are avg. nothing to complain about, how much time are you really spending in there anyway! no clock in the room, loved that!!I a/c was fine. i had a pool side, ground floor room. this hotel is in a great location in a cove (hence the name), which means no wind. perfect beach w/lots of those thatched tiki huts(no extra costs to use). I noticed, no other hotels had them on the beach. other people from other hotels tried to come over and use them, rent them but security was right on them. as other reviewers said, there are people trying to sell you stuff on the beach, but as soon as you say no thank you, they reply w/a thank you and move on...not pushy at all! some stray dogs running around on the beach (actually the whole island) but also totally harmless. the food is buffet style at the hotel, but not bad. there are a couple of beach bar+grille's right down the beach. prices of drinks and food are reasonable, but then again being from NY my ideas of reasonable may vary. oh, I got a massage at "wandas" at the hotel, I think she may actually come to your room upon request. the massage parlor is just a 1 room 1 bed parlor, but it worked (55$ U.S. for an hour)!! there always was some kind of entertainment (calypso or steel drum band) at night. the internet (1 kiosk) wasn't the fastest.

I didn't do any shore excursions, as I had just sprained my ankle and was afraid of really messing it up, so I cant help w/any of that. the island seems pretty much 3rd world of what I saw.

I deff. recommend this hotel...the service, the water, the sand...PERFECT.... DO IT!

Fantastic resort, the best area on the Island. All the others are on their own and very isolated. Dickenson Bay has at least 4 different hotels etc. We booked RO but upgraded to AI for 5 days when we were there. So we sampled the fantastic food in the Hotel the first week and then having got our bearings ventured out to the other restraunts in the area. Don't miss Coconut Grove at the other end of the beach for breakfast and fantastic evening meals and location. "The Beach" is also very good as is the Steak and Pizza place out of the front gates and 400m up the hill. The staff were very friendly esp. Heather, Kelvin and our cleaner who came every day, always ready with a smile. Fantastic snorkling on the reef a couple of miles out, get there by boat from the watersports place. Great beach cricket each week with Hyacinth. Crazy golf at a bar behind "The Beach" restraunt. Couple of beach bars between Halcyon Cove and Sandles where can watch Premiership football. Great thunderstorms and waterspouts out at sea. We especially enjoyed our last night when we ran the beach bar at the hotel for 2 hours, becasue it was raining and the staff "disappeared". Those of you who were there will remember the "topless barmaid competition! (only a one off event!).
Would throughly recommend. We booked Std Room but got given a Pool Side upgrade without even asking.
If you went and didn't enjoy it then you only have yourselves to blame, ask the staff and they will move you, sort out your problems always with a smile, if you talk to them niceley. Some people are just abusive and deserve all they get!
Would love to go back.
