This was our 2nd time at the Halcyon, and there has been big improvements since our last visit 2 years ago.
We arrived at the hotel fairly early and was given our room straight away. We had been upgraded to a pool view although when we got there we couldnt actually see the pool but had a beautiful view of the beach and the warri pier! much better than looking at the pool!!!
The rooms had been refurbished with new air conditioning, tea and coffee and best of all the bathroom had been upgraded. The rooms were kept clean and fresh towels were provided everyday.
The beach towels provided were always clean and yes sometimes the lady in the towel hut was late but you had the option to change them everyday. You are told what times the hut is open (its not all day) so change your towels during those times not when there is'nt anyone there!
The staff are brilliant as usual and there was a few familier faces who remembered us from two years ago. I cannot stress how upset they were at the time of the murders on the island. The majority of people are lovely and we wouldnt have gone back if we thought it wasnt a safe place to go. I must stress the that the hotel takes security seriously and I never felt unsafe there.
The food is good, its not disgusting or bland or terrible, its good. this is a 3 star hotel!! you won't starve! If you want gourmet food go to a 5 star hotel! We were on an all inclusive package and the food was value for money for the rating on the hotel! At breakfast you had plenty to choose from (what do people normally have at home!!!) lunch at the beach had great choice! You can even get a roast dinner on sunday evenings if you want one!!! The only grumble I have is that there is not more carribean food on offer for dinner. The terrace is very warm as it is basically open air so there is no aircon only fans and this does get uncomfortable at times when you are trying to eat, but if you go to most islands the majority of the buffet style restaurants are like this. The warri pier is worth going to - very good food.
If you are not on all inclusive there are plenty of restaurants locally. if you want to splash out a bit, go to The Cove Restaurant at Blue Waters Hotel. its only 10 minutes in a taxi and the food and service are excellent - the views are breathtaking if you arrive about 6.30 for sundown. I would highly recommend it.
The evening entertainment has improved but its not one of the strong points - show me a 3 star carribean hotel that has great entertainment every night - there aren't many!!!
The beach is beautiful and clean and the sea is clear and safe (occasionally you see jellyfish) Didn't go in the pool as I am not a pool person, but all the children seemed to like it!
Overall I would recommend this hotel for anyone who wants a nice break and who don't want to splash out too much. I would go back again and i know there are lots of people who go back year after year. Remember if you want 5 star book a 5 star hotel!!!!
