After reading some bad reviews, I was anxious that the hotel would be disappointing. I booked this holiday on a very good internet deal, for just myself and my partner on an all-inc. basis. I was surprised to find that our 'standard' room was very satisfactory (certainly not dirty as one review mentioned) - I was expecting to have to upgrade, but this wasn't necessary. The breakfast/lunch and all day drinks were fine - the standard is really what you get in any all-inclusive Caribbean hotel, even the most expensive resorts - the difference in the buffet experience here was that I found a lot of bad mannered guests pushing like animals to get at food or to get their's first - even digging into salad at lunchtime in speedos, with their sweaty flesh hanging over the salad bar. The offer of the evening buffets was disappointing. The hotel was obviously trying to accommodate the classic 'what Europeans want' rubbish - Chinese, Spanish even a German Buffet!! Where was the local food? We did not therefore eat dinner in the hotel apart from the Warri Pier which requires a supplement. There are plenty of really good restaurants in the area - Home, Coconut Grove, Commissioner's Grill, Papa Zouk and for cheap eats, Hemingway's in town is OK. It is not cheap to eat out in Antigua, but the quality is good and I didn't mind going spending the extra for dinner because we got such a good deal on the all inclusive basis anyway. The locals are very, very nice. The taxi drivers at the hotel are the best for local knowledge and tours - they offer very reasonable rates for afternoons out etc. The beach is fantastic - again, slightly spoilt by bad mannered guests claiming their sun loungers at the crack of dawn with the 'towel' trick. Vendors are no problem. All in all, offered the same deal, I would go back to this hotel because we got what we paid for, with the opportunity of seeing some very beautiful sights. I would advise NOT to book through a travel agent as you will not get what you paid for.
