The purpose of our holiday was to celebrate my friend's 40th Birthday and to enjoy two weeks relaxation in Antigua. We relaxed into the Antiguan lifestyle in the most tranquil setting of Dickenson Bay, with it's warm sea and palm fringed beach. Sun beds were always readily available on the beach and just a few steps away was the Carib Bar serving very strong rum punch and many other alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. Although there have been poor reviews of Halycon Cove, we would recommend this hotel because of it's unspoilt location, and colonial charm. AFTER ALL, A GOOD HOLIDAY IS WHAT YOU MAKE OF IT YOURSELF. AND WE HAD A BALL!! The hotel does have a few problems, mainly room refurbishment. The new manager, Gerrard is on top of this and is determined to bring this hotel up to scratch. We are sure that he will succeed very soon and we will be returning there. The waitresses and chefs were friendly and helpful, especially Roxanne, Sylvia and Orian. The Warrier Pier is the perfect setting for a celebration, etc. you can see the fish swimming around while you sip your evening cocktail and enjoy an a la carte meal twice a week. Take the catamaran trip with Treasure Island - it;s a wonderful way to sea the island and enjoy a relaxing day. It;s worth hiring a car because taxi trips can be very expensive. Duty free shopping is good in St. Johns but take a walk to Kennedys liquor store for better prices. Afterwards, relax at Hemmingways cafe for a cool drink or two. Nelsons dockyard is a must for it's history and setting. Finally Antigua and Halycon Cove is well worth a visit.
