We stayed at the Inn at English harbour in January 2006. We booked a junior suite and a 'superior' suite for our party. The suite was not a suite at all, it actually consisted of only one room. In the oxford English dictionary a suite is defined as 'a set of rooms for one person’s or family’s use or for a particular purpose '. ( a similar definition is in american dictionaries. ). Watch out that you are not conned by this mis decription. The rooms themselves are very good. Very clean with minimal, but nice furniture in good condition. The bathroom is large, but does not contain a bath, only a shower. ( a large walk in shower ). Hot water was intermittent. As reported by other members already, you can hear the people above you moving around if you are unfortunate enough to be on the ground floor. The hotel area is generally quiet, but if other people choose to be noisy, you can hear them clearly, as all of the windows are open for cooling.

The rooms are mostly in three wooden blocks at the bottom of a cliff. The restaurant / reception is at the top of the cliff. If you call reception a car will give you a lift to and from the top.

The hotel restaurant is extremely expensive. Its easy to spend 100 american dollars on a meal for 2 with only one glass of wine each. They not only charge a high price for the food, they also add on an extra 10% for service, then an extra 8.5% for government tax. Then, just to extract some more money from you, they bill you in American dollars, and then convert it to east carribean dollars at an exchange rate that is worse than the official one. This probably adds an extra 5% to the bill.
There are many better value restaurants a short taxi ride away in English Harbour. Try 'trappers' which the locals go to. Apart from the cost, the service is excellent. The food I felt was reasonably good. ( I sent back one dish which was not cooked ! ). If you are on 'half-board', then you each from a reduced version of the a la carte menu each night.

They will also charge you 12 american dollars for a continental breakfast – at least 15 us dollars by the time everything has been added on to it. ( per person ).

There is another restaurant in the nearby Galleon beach club, which is a third of the cost. The food is at least as good. This is a short walk along the beach.

There is a large size swimming pool which is usually deserted. It is clean and well kept.
The beach is small with a mixture of sand and gravel. There are sun loungers and umbrellas for customers free use. The gardens / grounds are well kept and quite pretty.

We found all of the staff to be very friendly and helpful. The most helpful were the Antiguan staff.
( apart from the boatman, who was quite rude, presumably he was having a bad week ! ). Despite being in English Harbour, this is an Italian run hotel.

I believe you could have a very enjoyable stay here, so long as you realise what you are getting. Try and get breakfast included in your rate.

All my muscles let go here. We stayed in a beachfront suite - a large airy room with great views, a large deck and beautiful dark wood furniture and floors. There is a relaxed and luxurious feeling here and it is very quiet - mercifully free of the obnoxious sound of air conditioning. Outside the beachfront suites is the infinity pool and just beyond that is the beautiful green water. Breakfast and lunch are served at the beachfront restaurant. The coffee is wonderful, but alas, the food was not the best. What we loved about this resort is there is a lot to do. We were travelling with our 10 year old daughter, so we couldn't just melt in a loungechair for a week. Every day we took a 3 minute ride in the small motorboat supplied by the inn and captained by the amusing Dixon, across to Nelson's Dockyard. Caribbean island resorts can feel restricting with little else to see but the natural island beauty. Usually, the towns are run down and not very appealing. Nelson's Dockyard on the other hand is stunning - it is an 18th century village with the original cobblestone walks and all renovated buildings that were used to repair ships and provide shelter for Horatio Nelson. There are historic inns, surrounded by lovely boutiques, restaurants and a short walk from Falmouth Harbour with yachts bobbing about and yachtspeople tooling around on their dinghies getting supplies or relaxing with a cappucino. The whole scene is very rich and interesting.
We also stayed at Blue Waters resort which is on the north part of the island. The food is much better at Blue Waters and in that area of the island. Le Bistro, in particular was spectacular. While we can't complain about Blue Waters ($1100/night for a suite), we preferred The Inn at English Harbour in every way except the food. We couldn't sit on our deck at Blue Waters without hearing the hum of air conditioning and the general feel of the place was much more formal than English Harbour and Blue Waters felt more isolated with nothing really close by without taking a cab. Also, the beach was practically non-existent at Blue Waters.
One minor complaint of The Inn's room was the 2 chairs were terribly uncomfortable - hard wood with a flimsy cushion.

We stayed for two nights to break our trip to Dominica. Our deluxe suite was fantastic and well worth the extra cost! Dining on the terrace was lovely; the food was good and the wine list quite extensive. Would definitely stay there again. The only down side, if there was one, was visiting children from the resort next door in the pool.

Just returned from a fabulous week at The Inn. We stayed in the older beach front rooms, but found them fine. The room is quite small and the bathroom could do with a face lift, but we were outside for most of the time. The room literally opened onto the beach. This was our first visit to the Caribbean and we soon got into the laid back approach.
Most of the week we spent on the beach reading or watching the yachts coming and going. We enjoyed breakfast at the beach restaurant and sometimes lunch too. It's easy to get to Nelson's Dockyard using the hotel's boat (with Dixon driving you there) and it's a good place for lunch. There are lots of little bars and restaurants. In the evening we particularly enjoyed Abracadbra (Italian with dancing later) and The Gallery.
Took a trip round the island with Edgar who used to work at The Inn when it first opened, he was great and kept us entertained. We couldn't believe how quiet all the beaches were. There are fantastic views, especially at Shirley Heights.
We went to Shirley Heights Sunday evening.... everyone on the island seemed to be there. Good steel band, though a little bit too crowded for us. But as I say definitely worth the trip just for the views and the sunset.
We really enjoyed our stay at The Inn, the staff are all great, very friendly and polite. The location is wonderful and we particularly liked the fact that it wasn't all inclusive like so many of the resorts on the island.
The only reasons I don't give it 5/5 are the tired rooms and the MOSQUITOS! Don't go without insect repellent - you've been warned!

My wife and I recently got married at the Inn at English Harbour. It was everything that we hoped it would be - and so much more.

We had stayed at the Inn the previous summer and had discussed the specifics of the event with the management team then. With a minimum of fuss, we later signed an agreement that we thought was very fair, covering food and beverage for the rehearsal dinner and reception, as well as room blocks for our guests.

Although we worked with some of the local vendors directly in the months leading up to the wedding, we were very grateful to the Inn for their recommendations, as well as their willingness to contact them if we were unable to get hold of them from New York.

We arrived the week before the wedding and were treated fantastically. The management team helped us to obtain our marriage license, and went through the events piece by piece to ensure that everything was just as we wanted it to be.

The rehearsal dinner, cocktail hour, reception and post-wedding brunch were superb. The food was incredibly flavourful and undeniably Caribbean. The service was attentive and polite without ever being intrusive.

We had 49 guests and the the vast majority were delighted with their rooms. A few felt that the hilltop rooms were a little spartan, but that was more than offset by the favourable comments of those that stayed in the suites, junior suites and beach side rooms.

The whole experience was something that will live with us for the rest of our lives. The intimacy of the setting, the attentiveness of the staff, the quality of the food and the happiness of our guests made our wedding a 4 day beach party.

Thanks so much to Manuela, Chef Carl, Matteo, Mr. Giorgi, Neal and the rest of the staff. You helped make our dreams come true.
