“a little piece of paradise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 5, 2013

Stayed for 4 nights have to say the apartments where lovely and clean, the staff very helpful, Michelle on reception could not have been more helpful, booking taxis and making reservations we where always asking for favors, but nothing seemed too much trouble.
The beach the apartments sat on is one of the best little beaches on the island.
The last 4 days have been our little piece of paradise
One tip i will give is dont leave home without mosquito repellent the island is rife and they made a meal of myself and hubby!

A comfortable self-caring apartment resort set on a beautiful beach in Northwest Antigua.

Staff very friendly and helpful, from providing beach towels, setting up sun beds on the beach to sorting out my iPad wi-fi connection.

Nice apartment with separate sitting room, open plan kitchen, spacious shower room and outside dining area. Air-conditioning excellent, very cool indeed. Kitchen is well equipped for cooking if one does not want to eat out.

Right outside the resort is a secluded little cove beach, shallow water, good for swimming. On the left there is a long sandy beach with no developments around. On the right, there is Coconut Grove restaurant followed by other resorts, such as Antigua Village, Sandals and Halcyon.

Bought drinks and basic groceries from the nearby Village mini-market, very convenient. Dined in the 3 local restaurants: Coconut Grove better than Peppez Lime better than Puttings.

We stayed in upper villa #9 for 4 nights. This room is in the blue building closest to the beach.

We had booked 2 villas next to each other 9 months in advance, however, did not end up next to each other because a couple weeks before our stay someone else wanted to extend their stay. This was disappointing. I also now wish we would have requested a ground level room. The patios were larger to accommodate our group of four and much better for easy access to the pool and beach. Due to all the rain, we used the covered pavilion quite a bit, which worked out ok.

The villas were clean and spacious. The bathroom was large and had a walk in shower and lots of drawers for storage. The bed was hard. There was air conditioning in the bedroom and main room. . . both worked great. The kitchen had the basic necessities, however, the toaster ovens in both our rooms were in horrible condition and our friend’s room did not have a coffee pot. Paper toweling would be a great addition. The refrigerator was large and nice to have. There was an ice maker in the office. There were two TV's with built-in DVD players in each villa.

The grounds and exterior of the villas are beautiful. There are a lot of birds, geckos, hummingbirds, doves, etc. to watch.

The pool area and pavilion chairs and cushions need a good cleaning, however, the actual pool was fairly clean and warm. This hotel is, also, in need of some new beach towels, especially since they charge $20 if you lose one.

The beach chairs were ok, hard resin, however, complimentary.

The beach was great. . . .soft sand, calm water and great sunsets.

The hotel location is very good. Walking distance to several bars and restaurants . . . Coconut Grove, Pepperz N Lime, Chippy Antigua, Putters, etc. and other restaurants and bars are just a short drive away like Table D'Hote, and Papa Zouk's.

I would recommend this hotel and would stay here again.

My husband and I traveled to Antigua March 23-30 and had a great stay at BBC. It's in a beautiful spot, right on Dickenson Bay. We stayed in room #13, upstairs (nearer the street than a lot of the other hotel's units) in a fourplex building. Street noise was non-existent. Any noise (music) from the Sandals Resort down the bay subsided by 11pm each night. The kitchen was adequately equipped with a microwave, 3/4 sized fridge, toaster oven, kettle, etc. The bathroom was very spacious, with a huge over-sized shower (no bathtub).

Every one of the hotel's staff were very polite, courteous, and helpful, particularly Yemi (spelling?). Whenever we needed something, they were there for us. Each morning we stopped in at the office for fresh beach towels, and a short visit with whoever was working that day. We got some great ideas and suggestions for dinner that night or in coming nights (Good Friday was the Friday of that week and thankfully they phoned around for us to find a restaurant - Papa Zouk as it turned out - which was open that evening, as most were closed).

The hotel's grounds were immaculate, and the pool was a nice size, and a welcome diversion from the beach. That beach is just steps away from Room #13, directly behind the hotel's property. We enjoyed the spacious beach just to the left of the gate, and each day grabbed a couple of beach chaises and wandered over there, all of about 25 yards, to relax and enjoy the sun and the surf.

We never rented a car that week, always taking Barry's Taxi Service for our travels, if we weren't walking somewhere. On the way in from the airport, we stopped at Epicurean for supplies (breakfast and lunch items, beer, etc.). Later in the week, we walked (20 minutes each way) to First Choice for groceries and more bottled water. Barry personally gave us a 6 hour island tour the second day we were in Antigua, and he was most informative, and friendly. We stopped for lunch that day at Caribbean Taste, suggested by Barry, and enjoyed a relaxing meal with him and learned more about the island. By the end of the week, we'd met his wife and thoroughly enjoyed his company during each of our travels.

Restaurants we went to during the week ... "Ristorante Paparazzi" for my husband's birthday (great meal, visited with owner Diego from Montreal, Canada, and enjoyed the stingray show just a few feet from our table), "La Bussola", (a 15-minute walk from the hotel), "Dennis Cocktail Bar & Restaurant", "C&C Wine Bar", and "Papa Zouk" ... all excellent meals and great choices ... glad we went there, all of the food was fantastic, and the service personalized and friendly. "Coconut Grove" is right next door to the hotel, overlooking the bay, but is a bit on the expensive side, and the service was terribly slow for us the night we went (our first night on the island). All of our dinners were delicious, and we'd go back to each one in a heartbeat, albeit Coconut Grove with that slow service we suffered through (that meal was so-so actually). On the Wednesday night we walked next door to a small parking area in which "Chippy Antigua", a mobile trailer specializing in English Fish & Chips, sets up every Wednesday and Friday evenings 4-9pm, and had an inexpensive tasty supper, plastic lawn chairs and all.

We look forward to a return visit to Antigua, and will definitely book a room at the Buccaneer Beach Club if/when we do.

We picked this resort with friends because of the excellent rating on Trip Advisor: that many people can't be wrong- and they're not! Buccaneer Beach Club isn't the all-inclusive that we are used to, but we would definitely go back. We rented cottage #2 on the beach. Nice shaded verandah, and quiet setting right on the beach. The beach is sheltered and safe for swimming. The resort appealed to families with very young children, young couples, and 50's types like ourselves. The grounds are lovely, the rooms clean, the kitchen well equipped, and the staff friendly and helpful- booking excursions, taxis, and restaurants for us. The location has several casual restaurants within a few minutes' walk( less than 30 seconds to Coconut Grove), and La Bussola is close by for fine dining. We recommend that you get in touch with Barry Taxi tour & concierge service for Island tours, drop-off and pick-up at other beaches. He's both engaging and very accommodating- and reasonably priced. Also recommend Antigua Extreme Adventure - a great boat tour circumnavigating the island, with stops to swim with stingrays, snorkel, picnic, walk a remote beach and go swimming; all with a small group and a crew that were good fun. It just couldn't be better-the same goes for the Buccaneer Beach Club too.

Room Tip: Cottage #2 is better than cottage #1, Poolside rooms are quieter than the rooms close to the street...

Lovely clean rooms, excellent internet service, right on the beach, and close to some great dining options.Staff are quite friendly and accommodating. This hotel is a great choice if you're staying in Antigua. Quick tip, make your own breakfast rather than purchase daily at the restaurant next door. All in all, you can't go wrong staying here.

My wife and I found the Buccaneer on TripAdvisor, and could not consider ourselves luckier than we do. The staff was awesome, arranging to let us in well after hours after our late flight and answering our million or so questions during our week-long stay. The room was clean, well-kept, and convenient, and just steps away from a more than adequate beach. There was also a pool on the property, although we didn't use it. It was a very tranquil location, with plenty of walking spaces along Dickinson Bay. There weren't many places to eat in the vicinity, but we made full use of the kitchen in our unit.

I would advise renting a car if you are going to stay in this area --- it makes the beach club seem much less isolated. We did for a few days and got to explore Antigua, and were lucky to have this wonderful place to come back to! We will definitely return the next time we are on the island.
