Staff were terriffic, can not fault any of them, very relaxing although spoilt sometimes in the evening by the beach bar close by. Facilities within the hotel are good, shops etc about 10 minutes walk but they are within the complex of Jolly Harbour which is a large family hotel right on the beach.
Rooms were ok although I think that perhaps a bit of TLC could be warranted as they are looking tired and in need of a bit of a spruce up. Weather overall was good although we only had 3 days of sunshine during the whole week and it rained every day.
Would I recommend Cocos? Well that depends, if you want a very quite, romantic beach holiday then no, if you dont mind a bit of noise and being pestered in the beach by Jet Ski/Excursion seller then yes.
Overall it was a lovely place and we enjoyed the time there, food was great, staff were great and made our stay enjoyable

“Relaxing Honeymoon”

Cocos Antigua

We stayed in bungalow 10 during our honeymoon at Coco's. Arriving from St. Kitts we were surprised by the hustle and bustle in Antigua. That all ended once we reached Coco's.

The staff was great, the bungalows were lovely (do use the mosquito net), and the beach was the best I have ever been to. You can literally spend hours just bobbing in the aqua water, with just sand, no rocks under your feet.

I can't say much for the rest of the island since we stayed close to Coco's during our trip, but we did arrange a snorkel trip through the hotel. We were picked up right from the beach, good snorkeling, we saw two sharks!

The best part about Coco's is the food. Wonderful soups, chicken roti's, fish, etc. We never figured out how often we should be tipping though...

One word of advice, we never found an ATM that worked at the hotel or at any of the nearby shops or the casino, so bring cash if you plan on taking excursions or tipping.

“Lovely Stay at Cocos”

Cocos Antigua

Wow what a place. Yes it does need a paint job in some areas but the ambience, staff and food make up for it.
The owner is eating every night in the fantastic restaurant so the food is great as he is constantly checking everything. Far from being aloof as hinted in some reviews he is very friendly and spoke to all the guests. The food even on the fixed menu is delicous and served with flair. Yes the staff do sometimes forget something but just ask and they are only too willing to make up for it. yes service is a litlle slow but this is The Caribbean and life is taken at a leisurely pace and you get to spend longer taking in the fantastic view. One night during our stay there was a tropical stormand Andre took it upon himself to come to our room and take our order for dinner, he was soaking wet, he served the food to us piping hot and well presented even in all the rain without electricity! There is nothing to do there but enjoy the company of the other guests in the bar even on the night of the storm we gathered in the bar area by candle light and had a good laugh and a few drinks until about midnight. The mini bar in the room was well stocked with beer and we had as much water as we wanted without extra costs.Yes the rooms are on a slope but what nice rooms and what a view, we had room 5. Don't go to Jolly Beach Resort it's like Butlins used to be! Just watch out for the sand flies after 1630 as you can't see them and do they bite! Can't blame the hotel for that as everywhere suffers. Thanks for a good stay everyone especially Acore at the beach bar.

“Needs some serious money and attention!”

Cocos Antigua

Sadly these are our the worst of our comments....
Before you read the bad tho....the resort concept is great and the location is stunning....just needs rather a lot of money spending and some tweaking!

1 Dirty bed linen and room towels on a regular basis.
2 Ouite often no water placed in our room on regular occassions. Only one litre is free per couple you have to pay for the rest on a daily basis
3 Constant slow service in the restaurant and most of the staff (not all) miss things such as no bread with your soup or no milk and sugar with your tea and cofee. This is not acceptable of a supposedly quality restaurant.
4 Options such as lobster off the a la carte rarely available. The pastry chef needs some serious help with bread as it's just boring white rolls every day.
5 The kitchen would have been condemned as a health risk in either the UK or US as it was dirty and simply too small to cope with the restaurant demands. (Q Gordon Ramsey!)
6 The whole decor of the resort is in serious need of updating as it looks very tired from tables through to rooms. There are new ones being built but beware the walk up the hill is a killer in the heat and not suitable for elderly persons. There is lots of building work going on and new cottages being crammed in between existing ones.
7 The swimming pool gives off pungent smell and you can't see your feet so no one uses it at all probably due to all the flies and water bugs floating in it. My wife named it the pongy pool!
8 When the regular beach barman was on holiday, the service was sporadic depending on who was on duty with some days being reduced to self service.
9 Water sports consisted of a canoe and a kayak with one broken paddle between them but no life jackets or safety briefing so they are wide open to being sued if something happened.
10 After dinner at night it's back to the room as there is absolutly nothing else to do at the hotel because the bar closes at 11pm. Only options here is a taxi to the tacky casino at the equally tacky Jolly beach resort.

The worst point of the two week stay was when an elderly lady slipped on wet steps in the restaurant one night falling very heavily subsequently breaking two ribs. The owner was seated in the restaurant at the time but didn't even get up to see if she was ok which several couples thought was disgraceful. There were no warning signs at the time alerting to the danger.

We have spoken to the owner Andrew Michelin who admitted that he has been spending all his time and money on his 5 star hotel The Hermitage Bay and has therefore neglected Coco's. He has admitted that air con will soon be added and that the pool needs treamtent to so watch this space.

Some staff were great such as Carl, Tanicia, Acarry the beach barman (sorry if spelt wrong!).

As a comparison, we stayed at Coco Bay 3 years ago which was lovely. (apart from no air-con at the time) but we went back for a visit on this stay and confirmed that is it still lovely but now with air con and plunge pools!

However back to Coco's at present, the owner may have Michelin in his name but no Michelin stars for now....

“Very poor in the end!”

Cocos Antigua

We went on Honeymoon, and paid for a 'Premium Cottage', which I though would be at the top of the hill, but we were in cottage #6, about 1/2 way up. As this was side-on to the Jolly Harbour beach, this did not benefit from the 'sea breeze' and subsequently, the heat was stifling, the fans provided serving only to move the warm air about.
On the second day my wife became ill with chest/breathing problems and although the staff assisted in getting a Doctor, that was where it went wrong. We decided to move hotels to one with air-con to help the breathing, and the Cocos have held firm in not refunding us for any nights unused, which I have been told is 'most unusual for the Caribbean'. They firmly stuck to this, and it's frankly unbelievably greedy. I have stayed in 4 & 5 star hotels all over the world and have never had such ignorant treatment nor lack of understanding, with not even one night returned to us as a goodwill gesture. Also, be on time for all meals, there is very little flexibility once the allotted times have passed, unlike the hotel we moved to who were altogether more relaxed.
