A temperemental coffee machine was our only gripe during our ten day stay at Carllise Bay. We stayed there over the chrismas holiday and left just after new year and throughly enjoyed every minute.
We travelled as a family of ten ranging in age from 3 to 66 and occupied 2 beach front suites, that walked directly on to the beach ,with my parents had an ocean view suite that was futher along the bay and very secluded. Most mornings we would watch the pelicans in the bay diving for fish and then wandered along to Indigo for a fantastic breakfast, the service was wonderful and after the first day many of the staff knew us by name and were always very friendly and helpful.
We enjoyed many of the water sports especially kayaking around to the next bay and snorkling. The snorkilng trips and boat trips are great fun but the organisation there is a little chaotic at times. We also went on a fantastic rainforest walk with two of the men who work in the nursery, they were very informative about the plants and fruits and the views were spectacular. One of the men even bought some fruits for my sons to eat that they had particuarly enjoyed on the walk - he also bought us some coconuts and at the end of the holiday made my son a handmade kite!
We also enjoyed the tennis courts, my husband, son and my sisters boyfriend have become quite addicted, the coach there was very helpful and friendly and seemed to know everyone by name.
We swam only occasionally in the pool but always found it clean and relatively empty. Our children enjoyed the various activities at the kids club and spent a riotous few hours playing games on the beach after a visit from a horse drawn father christmas on Christmas Day. The kids club staff were always friendly and helpful and all threw them selves into the activities especially when it was quiet - my son wanted to fish which was an advertised activity and had a fantastic hour long fish off the jetty by himself with a member of staff ( previous places we have stayed the kids clubs have cancelled activities if less than 3 children turn up so this was a refreshing change) The children also enjoyed the cinema - a great place to cool off when you have had too much sun - compimentary popcorn appearing as if by magic.
We enjoyed fresh fruit and iced water every day on the beach plus anything else we required from the prompt and friendly beach waiters.
The hotel spa offers a wide range of treatments at a wide range of prices - my sister, mother and myself all had a facial and back massage and thought it was spectacular.
The food in both restaurants was wonderful and the service on the whole excellant. The only place where the service was constantly slow was the pavillion bar where we would have pre- dinner drinks , during the day the service here was fine but in the evening it was inexpicably slow but we were so relaxed by then it wasnt too much of and issue - and it wasnt as if we had anywhere pressing to go except next door for dinner followed by a stroll along the beach.
The maid service in the rooms was excellant and the hotel was always clean and the gardens immaculate. the beaches are clean, raked every morning and lit by torch flmes every evening - perfect!
The hotel management were very accomodating to any of our needs and wishes for instance on new years eve there was a huge gala 6 course dinner at 9pm which my parents felt was to late for them and too late for the children - as it was new years eve we wanted to eat together and as the restaurants were closed the deputy manager arranged for us to have a dinner party on my parents terrace with our own menu that we chose in advance and two fantastic waiters who whizzed up and down to the kitchen on the golf buggies! It was a really memorable meal and a special alternative - when the very young and the older ones went to bed the rest of us joined in the dancing and revelry in the pavillion.
We will definitely return and we would recommend Carlisle Bay instantly to anyone of any age.
