After staying at One Aldwych many times we couldn't wait to try Carlisle Bay. However after reading some of the reviews I was apprehensive about booking. My fears were put to rest as soon as we arrived. We were greeted by Donna who supplied us with a refreshing cold towel and cocktails before escorting us to our beach front suite.
The room was very nice and very comfortable, for my wife and I and our two daughters (5 years and 7 months). I would stress that the children's bedroom was the only area with wardrobe space and the mini bar and coffee machine, which was annoying. The bathroom was spacious and was supplied with "REN" toileteries and plenty of towels. The main room had 2 sofas an armchair and king size bed. The DVD player (region 1) worked well although the DVD library (seemed well stocked) rarely had our 1st choice! But you don't really go to the Carribean to watch a movie!
Outside on the Terrace was a lovely day bed for two looking out over the beach and a table for two, which is great for breakfast but Mosquitos can ruin an evening supper. The beach beds can be set up by asking one of the "beach boys" and mid morning they usually bring a fresh fruit platter. In the afternoon they will deliver tea and scones to you.
The food was good but the limited menus became dull towards the end of our stay and we were ordering a la carte, nothing was too much to ask. The staff were all very friendly but they're is no sense of urgency, but this is reflective in all the staff but we soon learnt if you rush about you get very hot very quickly! The service was never as bad as has been reported in other reviews though.
The kids dinner was nice for the kids, my daughter who has a dairy allergy couldn't eat anything provided at the buffet though, but that didn't matter as the kitchen staff were more than happy to accommodate. The kids club was a winner for our 5 year old who spent most mornings playing with the other children and the lovely staff. A couple of mornings our 7 month went in and she too seemed to enjoy herself whilst we went off for sailing lessons!
Plenty of tennis courts surround the zen like spa which my wife spent a lot of her time (and money) in!
The beach is lovely and the sea was actually warmer than the free-form pool which is nestled amongst the main building and the cinema. The area was very quiet as there were no motor sports in the bay only sailing, windsurfing and kayaking.
We will return again, with our children And although children are very welcome it is also pleasant for couples too, we met several couples some on honeymoon, who stay at the "couples" end of the beach. Children aren't allowed in the East oriental restaurant in the evening but are allowed in the main Indigo restaurant, which is where Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner is served.
