Firstly my wife and I are amazed at the amount of negative comments that have been written about this resort.
We booked our honeymoon a year in advance before we had found this site and its reviews on cocobay. We booked in hurricane season and got a bit worried about what to expect.
The reviews we read after we had paid for our trip gave us a great cause for concern with the type of service to expect and the cleanliness of the resort.
However, on arriving we were greeted by friendly staff bearing rum punch and nice ice cold towels. We were then taken to our cottage which was dressed in tropical flower heads. As well as the standard over head fan we had a standing fan that could be moved about the cottage.
The cottage was cleaned thoroughly daily with clean towels available everyday if required.
We were dissapointed that sheer restaraunt was closed as it was off peak season but understood that it was being refurbished. When we experienced the food that was available we found no need to go anywhere else as it was always of a high standard. The service was great and always very friendly, only on one night was it a little bit slow but you are in the carribean and you need to slow down to that pace of life.
Breakfast and lunch are a buffet but there was always a good varied selection available. Birds do have a tendancy to fly into the restaraunt but never caused us any problems. As for flies the buffet area had fly screens which could be moved back and forth when helping yourself to food, understandably as in our own country flies can get into places through no fault of the resort.
No where in our brochure did it say the beaches are private and we seldome had to share the beach with any locals but when we did they were friendly and pleasant to be around.
Beach vendours were present but left you alone with a firm no thankyou. ( please keep in mind these vendours are only trying to make aliving the same as me and you).
Sunday the beaches can get busy as the locals have their day off and desrve to relax.
The trips we went on were:
circum-navigation on the excellence (fantastic).
Island safari with stingray city ( fantastic, i found the stingrays very scary but my wife loved them).
We went into St.Johns which was very busy, Taxi drivers can be very pushy. You can change your money and get your duty free very cheap.
Mosquitoes and sand flies are a pain and nothing seemed to work, they will go for the women more (something to do with hormones). there is a pharmacy in jolly harbour which sells a local cream called mosquito cream (vasaline based) this keeps them away and heals the bites you have. If you read this before you go take a citronella candal to burn at diner/ bar area and in your room, it helps. you can also get a incence burner spiral from reception that lasts for hours and keeps the little things away.
To sum up our holiday,
Food 5*
Staff 5*
Cleanliness 5*
Atmosphere 5*
If we had been anymore relaxed we would have slept through the whole holiday.

p.s make a point of going to shirley heights on a sunday and go by taxi and stay late.
