My husband and I just returned from our 3rd trip to Cocobay in Antigua and once again, I was so sad to leave this little paradise. When we returned to the States, we saw that there was a feature article in the Travel section of the Washington Post on 10/29 featuring Coco's. If you saw this, the two resorts are virtually identical. If you are looking for that "picture perfect" place in the Carribean that takes your breath away, this is it. But, if you must have A/C, a TV, phone, or room service, go somewhere else - NOT having these things is part of the charm. I love not being in a highrise hotel. Every guest has their own primitive cottage painted in pastel colors with a porch overlooking that tourquoise Caribbean water. When it rains, you hear that beautiful, pitter-patter sound on a tin roof. Most cottages have double doors that open onto the porch so you can look at the Caribbean Sea while taking a shower. I feel as though I'm in the movie South Pacific and I'm going to "wash that man right out of my hair!" Flowering vines and bushes abound with humming birds. The food is always interesting. Breakfast is a buffet with fresh fruit, assorted breads and meats with a chef cooking eggs/omelets to order. Lunch is also buffet with fresh fish (cooked by the chef), assorted salads, fruit, soup, and other dishes. Dinner is the highlight though. Most nights, you order from the menu dejour. You have a choice of appetizers, a soup, and choice of an entree. Dessert follows. Taste and presentation are 5-star! I must caution you though. Eating is open-air so there are flies and birds which can annoy some but this is normally only at breakfast and lunch. Unfortunately, this is a problem anywhere where it is hot and humid. Also, know that you MUST bring mosquito spray - hence the reason for the mosquito nets over the bed. If bugs would ruin your vacation, then don't come. But if you love to lie on the beach (and there are two of them) and read a good book, look at a stunning view, hunt for beautiful seashells, eat tasty and healthy food, enjoy nice wine/beer or a great rum punch - you'll love Cocobay. While you are there, I would highly recommend taking the Wadadli Cats snorkeling trip around the island. The crew is great and it is a wonderful way to see the island (make reservations via internet). For those looking to get a real deal on this beautiful resort, bid on a package on LuxuryLink.com. Read many reviews,some good,some bad we thought it was fantastic!!
Rooms were simple but superb, big bed and net, open shower room, hammock on balcony, wondrful views. No air conditioning was not a problem - fan plus the breeze kept us cool.
Staff were really helpful especially Leroy from the restaurant.
The food was spot on, buffet breakfast, lunch and a la carte dinner.
Egg chef at brekfast, good choice for lunch( burgers, fish, salads, pasta, fruit etc.)
Dinner served from 7pm to 9pm - we thought first class- always a good choice- served by good staff
Talking about staff, make the effort and they turn up trumps( we were impressed by their friendliness, even thogh they need a little coaxing). What you give is what you get, be miserable and what do you expet back!!
Pool lovely, beach ideal.
If you want a little bit more action , walk alog the beach to Jolly Beach resort( you will soon want to return to COcobay), here you will find a BIG hotel, casino and a marina, graet if thats what you want. It is a nice walk and a pleasant change, but we always enjoyed the walk back ^%"home"
Yes , the beach is public and so what, it is nice to meet the locals, they wre great!!
Taxis are a little expensive , but the drivers are a mine of info, and are very helpfgul.We hired PiPi and he took us loads of places - well worth it!!
If you can go to see the carnival absoluty brilliant-( virgin rep Marleen- is a gem)
The cricket is well worth a visit too. We saw the 20/20 series and that was like watching the carnival again, the music and atmosprere is out of this world
Overall we found the island, hotel and people infectious.
Remember wuat you give is what you receive.
Will be certainly going back!!!!!

As part of our honeymoon we stayed at the cocobay resort for 6 days.

The pool (which looks really nice) was closed for the first three days but we got to use the pool in an other resort what was a nice gesture.

On the beach there were not many beds and we were in the low season. They have a new Hobycat catemaran which is nice to use.

Meals were good but we didn´t like the birds who had breakfast with us.

The room was basic but OK, it was the rainy season so didn´t mis the airconditioning. We had a sea view room and the view is great.

Overall there are better resorts in Antigua but valuewise it wasn´t bad at all. I would recomend to rent a car for a few days, saves you expensive taxi rides and you can go where ever you want to go.

Bring change to the hotel, I had to pay way to much to a taxidriver because the hotel couldn´t provide me with change.

We arrived to a very warm welcome but on arriving at our cottage we were very disapointed the cottages are very basic there is no where to sit only on the bed or out on the terrace. There are are flies and birds everywhere in the bar and resturant which could be prevented by management, We were bitten everyday the mosqito are ripe.The resturant was a la carte which needs improving desperatly, the buffet meals accomadate you more with more choice and there is more food.Staff friendly especially David the bar attendent. No drink service on the beach which is offered in brochure.
Pool and sea views are amazing.Take a trip on the virgin ahoy its a wonderful day out.
Mosqitos are ripe which spoils your holiday.
Would i ever go back to Cocobay the answer to that is no even if it was offered free.
